Quality Control – Definition, Significance, and Tools

Quality control is a mechanism used by quality control subcontractors for producing products to meet the predetermined specifications of customers which is then transformed into sales, manufacturing, and engineering departments. This mechanism is more focused on producing the correct things that can be sued by customers at once rather than discovering new things or rejecting the products that went wrong during the production process. It is, therefore, considered as a technique of producing uniform products that are easily accepted by customers.

There are two vital elements present in the quality control procedure. First, the commitment of manufacturing the products must be applied according to the consumer’s expectation of the product or it may be a written contract. Second, the ultimate services and functions of the product must be relatable to the final consumer’s final products. It is always preferable to outsource quality control procedures to subcontractors rather than quality control freelancers in order to ensure the proper production of the products.

In practice when you consider a product as a quality product, it means the manufactured product satisfies the certain functioning criteria set by the group of final consumers. It should lay down the list of criteria when it is being manufactured over a reasonable period. For example, a ballpoint pen should be able to write legibly on paper or a clock should show the accurate time.

Importance of quality control mechanism If quality control freelancers are able to properly maintain the quality of products, then it will bear distinct benefits for both the producers and customers. These include: Sales can be ultimately increased by building up image or goodwill for the brand products. It allows the entrepreneurs or the manufacturers to fix worker’s responsibility during the production process. Maintaining the quality of products manufactured also focuses on minimizing the costs by enhancing the standardization, efficiency, and working conditions of the workers and overall procedure. It gives an opportunity to the entrepreneurs to know about the cost of products they will be investing in quite in advance that ultimately helps them to determine the competitive prices of products in the market. The quality control mechanism also allows the entrepreneurs to know of the products manufactured are according to the guidelines set by the government. It facilitates the entrepreneur to take action to match the standard set.

Quality control tools Inspection – It is the most common tool used in the manufacturing process of quality products. It ensures the proper manufacturing of quality products. It prevents process bottlenecks and therefore saves the wastage of material. The main purpose is to inspect the products properly before sending them to the market and comply with the standard set for the products according to the customers. Statistical quality control – It is an advanced technique that is used to control the product’s quality. This procedure is mainly based on the statistical method to control and determine the product’s quality. There are several statistical inferences such as probability and sampling to control the quality of the product. This tool is also used widely in process control industries and in industries that produce goods in large quantities.
