Our own story begins in Porto, in the north of Portugal. It’s home to people who don’t beat about the bush: the city is a port, and that’s what it’s called. And it’s in Matosinhos, just a short tram ride from the Old Town, that mishmash notebooks are designed and made for a clientele that includes Prodir.
mishmash’s studio is located on the first floor of the fish market, where the city gives start-ups some space for their projects. You can look through the glass walls and watch the traders selling their fish and shellfish. The sea is a stone’s throw away, there’s a faint tang of salt in the air, and you can hear the screech of seagulls.
„mishmash was born out of an intense passion for everything to do with writing and paper. Even when I was just a child, I spent a lot of time in my grandfather’s stationery shop, which back then was on the outskirts of Porto. I think that the interplay between the paper and the writing instrument gives us the ability to capture ideas, think differently and create something new. That’s what I find fascinating.
It’s here that you’ll find 31-year-old Beatriz Barros hard at work with her team. The designer set up mishmash in 2017 as her dissertation project at her college of art and design.
Notebooks are tools for creativity.
„
At work and in life, we feel happier in places that mirror our values and beliefs, and we see our mission as being to spread this good feeling around creative offices all over the world. We make tools that empower creative people and inspire them to get stuck in and turn their dreams into reality. We want to produce tools that help them unleash their full potential and put their ideas into practice.
Printing and paper processing have a long history in the Porto region. mishmash works closely with selected partner companies to make its high-quality notebooks.
