AI is no more immune to end-user stupidity than any other type of software. With the benefit of both hindsight and strategic foresight, we can choose a path of reinvention. It’s a beautiful day in technology utopia - or is it? AI has demonstrated its ability to surpass humanlevel intelligence in a broad array of areas. AI ranges from economics, law, and philosophy to computer security, formal methods as well as various branches of AI itself. AI has seen exponential growth and diffusion as it is used across most industries, it solves business and transportation problems, detects fraud, supports fraud, it can also predict the emotional state and behavior of the person calling to help companies anticipate desirable solutions. While AI research is progressing steadily and its impact on society is increasingly important, there are consequences that become more severe as the sophistication of AI systems rises. The concern is that ultra-smart AI will take our place on the evolutionary ladder and subjugate us or worse obliterate us. Are we in danger of building a world that we don’t want to live in?
Generally defined Artificial Intelligence represents the third era of computing, the ability for a machine to perform cognitive functions such as perception, learning, reasoning, problemsolving, contextual understanding, predictions, and exercising creativity, as well as or better than humans. It is important to realize that machines, computers, artificial intelligence, anything designed by humans will never be perfect. Mistakes will be made, poor recommendations will occur, bad things will happen. AI will never be perfect. While artificial intelligence has been touted as a panacea, we all know the pendulum swings both ways. AI is not the domain of those working for good and technology advancement but malicious actors are now utilizing it as a force multiplier. Whatever harm conventional malware can do Artificial Intelligence can help malware do it better!

Two major areas of concern arise: the technical problem of direct control of AI, ensuring the AI system does what we want it to do and the governance problem of social control to assure advanced AI systems are consistent with society’s objectives. One of the most exciting aspects of AI is Artificial Emotional Intelligence, is its potential to adhere to human values not by programming AI “but by teaching it”. AI can measure biomarkers that suggest a person’s emotional state. A leader in robotics Hansen Technologies is teaching machines unconditional love, active listening, and empathy. Said research epitomizes that while we live in a world dominated by partisan politics, and different principles, humans have a lot in common and AI can capture these similarities. AI is a broad field. With Machine Learning computers can learn without being explicitly programmed.
Through the utilization of algorithms, they extract patterns from databases and utilize those patterns to predict and make real-time decisions automatically and in specific instances without human intervention. Before AI, Mankind has always made predictions we all want to stimulate actions that defy the odds; wars have been initiated based on predictions. Fast forward, today there are likely dozens of AIgenerated algorithms making predictions about you: for instance, the algorithm that predicted you would read this article if you would be exposed to it. No one got your permission, no government agency is supervising, no one informed you that such an AI-generated prediction had been made. Machine Learning encompasses supervised learning; unsupervised learning or reinforcement learning.

Deep Learning is a type of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) that imitates the way humans gain certain types of knowledge. … these systems are trained to learn on their own, sorting through unstructured data. While traditional machine learning algorithms are linear, deep learning algorithms are stacked in a hierarchy of increasing complexity and abstraction. Breaking it down further we have Weak (narrow) AI which makes decisions within narrow parameters, similar or better than humans. If you think AI decisions are only utilized in the confines of Academia and Research Labs - think again. We all utilize them every day, so much in fact that most of us take them for granted and don’t even realize it, such as the anti-lock brakes in your car, spam filters and the time-saving autocomplete functions in your email. The clarification standard between weak and strong AI is that strong AI is perceived as a form of artificial intelligence in which machines can develop human intelligence and consciousness similar to humans. It refers to machines or programs with a mind of their own and which can think and accomplish complex tasks on their own without any human interference.
Major events over the past few years have thrown into sharp relief the dangers of artificial intelligence. As Elizabeth Barrett Browning stated, “How do I love thee, let me count the ways”. We are filled with love, admiration, or astonishment at AI technology, but as previously mentioned, AI can, has, and will behave badly. Researchers are writing more papers that focus directly on the ethics of AI, with submissions in this area more than doubling from 2015 to 2020. In a reality check, we must acknowledge the truth when all the fog and hype clears artificial intelligence software is still software. AI is premised on two factors: A core Algorithm written by humans, and training data developed by humans that inform how those algorithms modify themselves to improve or adapt their Performance. Post-deployment AI encounters ‘real world’ data which can be implemented to inform and advance the AI's performance. Therefore, various versions of the same pre-release AI can and will radically differ when they adapt to the different users.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE, A "BADASS" ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SOLUTION ENTERS THE MAINSTREAM; THIS CORRUPTION CAN HAPPEN PRE-OR POST-RELEASE ON PURPOSE OR BY MISTAKE..
Based on the fact that AI evolved software can re-write itself over time, acquiring new functions or new objectives, the AI system can evolve harmful behaviors on its own! AI models and automated systems reproduce all of the existing biases and inequalities of the real world. We are all aware or should be aware, that the data we create every day is mined by algorithms and used to create a profile of you, to predict your behavior, determine your mortgage rates, to track you.
The data is often sold to third parties without your knowledge. As AI applications grow exponentially, the negative effects of bias will be more far-reaching. The South China Morning Post reported that Chinese scientists have developed an AI prosecutor that can identify eight common crimes such as fraud, gambling, dangerous driving, and ‘picking quarrels. AI will do exactly what it is told to do. Tell it to win at Chess and it will do so every single time. Tell it to cheat and it will cheat. Researchers at Stanford University and Google discovered that an AI, which was designed to turn satellite images into usable maps, was withholding certain data. The system learned to hide information about the original image inside of the image it generated. AI can manipulate search systems for competitive advantage to prioritize results that are more profitable for certain people or companies.

AI systems can generate “deepfakes” or synthetic images of human faces, then superimpose those faces onto the faces of other people in photographs or movies for malicious use. AI Nationalism. Governments are instituting new restrictions on mergers and acquisitions and investment activity to ensure that AI developed by companies does not aid foreign adversaries. In 2020, Germany passed a law to allow the government to review or block investments or takeovers of robotics, AI, and semiconductor companies by non-EU–based firms. Algorithmic Warfigting. Future wars will be fought in code, using data and algorithms as powerful weapons. The current global order is being shaped by artificial intelligence, and the same countries leading the world in AI research—the U.S., China, Israel, France, Russia, the U.K., and South Korea—are also developing weapons systems that include at least some autonomous functionality.
Future Today Institute analysis shows that the future of warfare encompasses more than traditional weapons. Using AI techniques, a military can “win” by destabilizing an economy rather than demolishing countrysides and city centers. From that perspective, China’s unified march to advance AI puts the emerging superpower dangerously far ahead of the West. Many stakeholders appear to be double-dealing in the digital age, advocating for responsible behavior publicly, while at the same time developing exploits and backdoors for offensive operations through their intelligence services or even weakening security standards worldwide. The Fourth Industrial Revolution blurs the boundaries between physical, digital, and biological worlds, fusing advances in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), quantum computing, and other technologies. Technological convergence, in general, refers to the trend or phenomenon where two or more independent technologies integrate and form a new outcome.

EDWARD TELLER SAID, “IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE MADE SOMETHING FOOLPROOF, THE FOOL IS ALWAYS BIGGER THAN THE PROOF.” Working in technology we all know that despite best efforts to make a system fail-safe, there is always a chance that mistakes, bad actors, malicious ends, human factors will create unexpected decision pathways that undermine the result. There is always a dark side to technology. AI will affect a transformation of human society itself.
