The ,'Polaris', presents the visual record of our many activities during the year; the non-visua-I record of encouragement and help which has been given by parents, teachers, and students to each of us

will be remembered as you look through these pages.

Our High School is dedicated to a man whose successes resulted not only

ful planning,

from his intellect, care-

and persistence, but equatly i.mportant, from his willingness to examine the "why's" of

his failures, Our continued emulation of these concepts produces that irrepressible restlessness which enhances our unique student body.

Dr. Fred L. Dunn, Jr. Principal

The National Honor Society and the Junior Nationai Honor Society are nation-wide organizations established to stimulate superior scholarship, constructive leadership, purposeful service, and worthy character in secondary school students. To be eligibl.e for membership in these chapters, a Peary student must maintain at least a "B" average during the first semester. Students in the eighth and ninth grades may be candidates for the Junior Honor Society, while

the Senior Honor Society inducts eleventh and twelfth graders. This year, due to the fact

that we have only seventh through eleventh graders, tenth graders are eligible for the SeniorHonor Society. Selection, made by the faculty, is based on scholarship, citizenship, service, Ieadership, and character.

PEARY'S MASCOI

K'NG Among other flrsts at Peary this year was the purchase of Nalegaksoah IIof Pearyby the Student Government Association. Commonly called King because the name means "king of the team" in the Language of the Eskimos, our mascot was named after Admiral Peary's favorite lead dog, Nalegaksoah I.

This registered Siberian husky was presented to

the student body by Mr. Laneve, our football coach, at a pep assembly in September. As our mascot, King's official duties will include attending all our school games. Ours is the first and only school in the Washington area to have a live mascot.
