Progress Highlight
Kitchen Make-Over
by Dan McGinty The people who make up the Progress Lighting team are truly talented individuals with skills and passion that extend far beyond the office walls. Here we feature a recent renovation from one of our very own Product Designers at Progress Lighting – Dan McGinty!
WHAT A MAKEOVER / A before and after shot of Dan’s recent kitchen renovation. “After” image features Assembly Hall pendants from Progress Lighting’s Design Series.
"We bought a wallpaper covered “fixer upper” with a rotting floor under the refrigerator. I thought it was just a broken water line on the refrigerator, but it was a neglected chimney cover with years of dripping down to the subfloor. With water damaged cabinet doors and an odd layout, we renovated the space to create something that worked for us." Dan McGinty / Designer Progress Lighting

Like many families, the dining room, family room and kitchen are the most used rooms in Dan’s home. In fact, the family room is an open space that leads to the dining room, foyer and part of the kitchen. “We recently renovated our 23-year-old kitchen. We love to cook and spend most of our time in there,” said Dan, who describes key updates to the right.
“We can’t imagine this house without this kitchen!”

s a respected thought leader and founder of Possibilities for Design, an award-winning national interior design firm, Doris Pearlman is in the business of bringing dream homes to life. Connecting with the hearts of today’s homebuyers, her model homes are the hallmark of custom design and trendsetting style.
Doris recently finished merchandising a stunning home with luxury homebuilder, and Progress Lighting partner, Toll Brothers. The Summit Estates community, nestled in the heart of Westchester County, attracts sophisticated New Yorkers looking to retreat from city life. The design of the Harding model epitomizes luxury, and Doris used Progress Lighting fixtures as her finishing touch.

Initial Impact As the first room seen from the entry, the dining room is the gracious hostess of the house. The overall vision for the room is “luxe neutrality” with gray and crème chairs, coordinating drapery, and the added flair of contemporary gold accents and wall hangings. But it’s the dual, bronze Sway chandeliers, highlighted by the perimeter-lit coffer, that crown the room for the ultimate first impression. progresslighting.com

INDUSTRIAL
The Heart Of The Home This “Chef’s Kitchen” is gourmet ready, with a waterfall island, Wolf appliances, and sleek white cabinets. A subtle touch of industrial lighting is an unexpected, exciting addition.

GLIMMER
Lighting really steals the show in this romantic room. An impressive coffered ceiling adds dimension, volume and architectural interest, while the Glimmer pendants serve as the jewelry of the space. The oversized tufted headboard, split-finished nightstands, painted trim accents and layered bedding are key elements in the overall vision.

Glimmer pendant and Invite vanity fixtures truly leave buyers asking for the earliest move-in date!
Putting The Owner Back In The Owner’s Bath This space extends the “staycation” appeal with an artfully contrasted black and beige tile design, and free-standing tub, with the striking Glimmer pendant repeated from the bedroom and Invite vanity over the sink. This continuity creates the ultimate memory point and adds sparkle to this spa-like retreat.

Two Markor pendants add drama to a room.
A Study In Style When you have an entire builtin wall boasting a 72 TV, a bay window, and a modern geometric glass desk, you need pendants that command attention. The Markor pendants achieve just that. Working from home just took on a whole new meaning.
Completing the home tour, it’s crucial to leave visitors with a lasting impression, and two Vestique pendants do just that.

Bringing the Outdoors
INSIDE Many times, we hear interior design experts talk about the benefits of bringing interior design elements to outdoor settings. However, most recently, we’ve seen a lot of creative ways designers are using exterior lanterns and outdoor accents inside. According to the Synergy Homes team, who creates and builds high-performance and energy-efficient homes, we spend most of our time indoors, but our subconscious desire is to be connected with the outdoors. Incorporating elements from the outdoors can help bridge that connection. But, how do you master this look? We have some tips for you!

UNION SQUARE LANTERNS Traditionally used in outdoor settings, the Union Square outdoor lanterns in this master suite complement the oversized Turnbury chandelier to create a unique lighting design.

NATURE AS ARTWORK Use a statement painting of wildlife or a beautiful landscape to connect to the outdoors.
WICKER ACCENTS Straw or wicker décor elements bring in some added interest.

NATURAL ELEMENTS ARE RELAXING BY NATURE! “Bringing the outdoors in can create a more peaceful environment and sense of serenity,” says Sara Bechtold, Director of Merchandising for Richmond American Homes. “It can also help the interior and exterior feel more like one cohesive living space. Creating a sense of hygge (a Danish term for coziness) is very popular right now, and bringing the outdoors in can help achieve that type of comfort.”
ADDITIONAL TIPS from
RICHMOND AMERICAN HOMES OUTDOOR LANTERNS
The use of shiplap in coastal kitchens has become a popular trend that brings outdoor elements into stylish settings. Turnbury pendant shown; Image courtesy of Stephen Alexander Homes and Susan Wilson Interiors.
Incorporate outdoor lanterns above a mantle. “A lot of Progress Lighting’s new exterior lanterns and sconces would make beautiful additions to the interior of a home,” says Sara.
SUCCULENTS They are still trending and make a great addition inside the home.
RECLAIMED WOOD-LOOK FLOORS and brick-look tile on the walls paired with a farmhouse-style lantern or sconce is a great way to bring outdoor style indoors.

O
ne of the most anticipated discussions surrounding 2018 is about color.
Color trends and color forecasting is a major topic for interior designers and other experts in the home fashion industry. Therefore, the Progress Lighting team checked in with some of our friends and colleagues to learn what popular colors they are seeing in their own projects and designs! Here’s what they had to say:
Color is definitely back and a welcome change because it makes a room much more interesting. This winter it was deep jewel tones in sapphire, emerald, plum, ruby, and jade with pops of orange as an accent. As we move into the summer, I see these colors shifting to turquoise, lavender, dusty pink, and lambs ear green.

“We’re seeing people add texture to walls in new ways,” said Ben Clarke, National Vice President, Home Gallery & Options for Richmond American Homes. He suggests trying some of the following ideas.
01 Instantly add drama to a space by incorporating reclaimed wood, laminate, thin brick or stacked stone to a focal wall.
02 To add color and dimension in a powder room, try a textured or metallic wallpaper – they are very popular right now!
03 Opt for a wood-look wallpaper – it looks great as an accent wall behind a bed or sofa.
