Who are all these people going to see Hugh Jackman – a Sydney boy turned international movie star – sing and dance and chat for two hours? Even Jackman himself isn’t sure. Upfront, he pre-emptively forgives the audience members who’ll be checking their phones for updates on the cricket. He even promises us to tell us when he’s two songs from the end, just in case we’re the kind of people who like to leave early to beat the traffic. It’s easy to understand Jackman’s international appeal, with massive movies like The Greatest Showman and The X-Men franchise under his belt. But Australia seems to love him so fervently, this man out of time, singing Sinatra and tap-dancing to AC/DC. Jackman is comfortable as himself. He dances freely and without cringe, even as he recreates the choreography from his turn as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast in 1996 at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre. He tells us his brother calling him a sissy prevented him from taking dance lessons; he dances joyously now, secure in himself and his interests.
“The message is clear: follow your dreams, no matter what others might say.” He shows himself as a loving husband and father – he descends into the audience to waltz with Deborra-Lee Furness, his wife of 23 years – but he immediately jokes about making all the other husbands look bad. He’s your mate. He plays piano onstage and immediately makes a self-deprecating joke about thinking he’s somehow qualified to play a piano at an arena show (with specific apologies to Billy Joel). He brings out two children’s choirs to sing You Will Be Found from Dear

Evan Hansen, the reigning hit musical for sensitive teens, written by The Greatest Showman’s songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. He casually says the musical will be coming to Australia next year; behind me, young women screamed in delight. And then Jackman begins the second act in character as Peter Allen, reprising his Tony award-winning turn as the Australian entertainer in The Boy From Oz. A woman is pulled from the audience to dance with him; she clings in delight. Jackman shakes his hips and moves like Allen, a little queerness in every step. Later, he mugs in Wolverine poses, joking that the X-Men fans in the audience must have been suffering all night. He knows he pushes the boundaries of acceptable bloke behaviour; he encourages you to let him.

strange mix of earnest performance, a variety show for the heartfelt and easy-pushed buttons of popular entertainment. But popular entertainment is popular for a reason and it’s easy to get caught up in the spectacle. Jackman, perhaps, shows the world who we wish we were: a nation that has attempted to heal the genocide and systemic racism that haunts and hurts us; a nation where men don’t routinely and violently kill women; a nation where gendered expectations are out the window. Where love and respect are the guiding tenets of our communities. And if that’s who we wish we were, maybe there’s hope for us yet. By Cassie Tongue
His audience is, typically, entranced. They cheer when the band plays the 20th Century Fox theme as Jackman describes his love for movie musicals. They even cheer at his take on Valjean’s Soliloquy and One Day More from Les Misérables. Jackman’s voice, which has always been more about charm and power than technique, serves him well in this enormous space. But when his special guest, The Greatest Showman’s Keala Settle, emerges to sing genericoutsider anthem This is Me, her stunning voice brings people around me to tears. Jackman made space for her to shine. The Man. The Music. The Show is a

Staying Fit & Healthy on our Busiest Days... We all have busy lives and it feels like we are trying to cram more and more into our waking hours… work, family, friends, activities, hobbies, and the list goes on. The biggest problem with us all being so busy is we start neglecting our health and fitness, and this can have serious long term effects. These six tips can help you ‘fit in fitness’ wherever you can, even on our busiest days.
1
SHORT AND SWEET IS BETTER THAN NONE So maybe you don’t have time to go on a 5 kilometre walk. Or a 1 kilometre walk. Or… you get the picture. But even if all you can do is get up and take a lap around the block — or even the office — make the commitment to at least do that every day. You can always increase your workout length if time allows, and as long as you don’t let your exercise time diminish to zero you can go to bed each night knowing that you did something.
3 Page 8
2
TAKE THE STAIRS You may not realise this but did you know that by taking the stairs you’re upping your efficiency by burning about 5x more calories. And while it can be tempting to hop into an elevator or step onto the escalator, you need to get up to the next floor one way or another. So why not count it toward that day’s workout?
EXERCISE DURING PHONE CALLS One benefit of mobile phones is just that… they are mobile! You can pace while getting work done! Turn phone time into fit time by walking around or stretching while talking. You can even take your calls outside and walk around the block!
4
THINK QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY One way to maximise your workouts all year long is to be as efficient as possible with the time you have. If you can manage a run instead of a walk, go for it. Or if you can handle a 15-minute high-intensity workout, try that instead of the same old workout routine you’re used to. Search online for “15-minute workout” or even “4-minute workout” and you’ll come up with plenty of options that can work for you. Or even better, purchase a fitness tracker that has built in mini-exercise programs.
5
BE PREPARED TO EAT HEALTHY Fast food is popular for a variety of reasons, but you can find the same quick and easy meals in your own home if you plan ahead. Be sure to keep your fridge stocked with healthy foods that are easy to turn into a meal, and don’t underestimate the power of a slow cooker. Pack your lunch at home to take to work - by avoiding food courts and cafés you will be less likely to order unhealthy calorie dense food. Not only will you be eating better, you will save money and by not having to queue up to order, you will save time... which you can spend on a brisk after lunch walk.
6
TURN EVERYDAY TASKS INTO MINI-WORKOUTS Even when you’re busy there are certain things that you get done each day that involve standing around, like brushing your teeth, doing the dishes or even waiting for the photocopier to warm up! Take these moments to fit in some exercise by doing squats, balancing on one foot, or pressing onto your toes for a calf workout. If you really want to step it up, try doing some lunges while walking around the house (maybe don’t try this at the office ).
You don’t need to block out hours in your diary to stay active and fit, you just need to commit to doing something every day and grabbing opportunities to move as often as possible, even if it is only a minute here and there... these all add up to a better, healthier you! Page 9
Media Watch Vicki Lonergan Vicki’s book ‘The Roaming Barista’ was featured in The Barossa Valley Leader in August this year. In this article she talks about her experiences running a mobile coffee van and this motivated her to write a book to help other people wanting to start their own mobile coffee van.
“It is a guide for anybody starting up and those who are an existing business to help with all the different things you need to know.” Great work Vicki getting media happening before you’ve finished writing! We look foward to seeing the finished product.

Congratulations to Lisa Valavanis who appeared on Millionaire Hotseat at the end of August and raised a lot of money for charity. She also spoke about her and her husband Jim’s book ‘Life Through Sam’s Eyes’ and had Eddie show it off on the program... Nice work Lisa!
Author Watch Mark Walker Mark is an author, entrepreneur, basketball coach and basketball instructor. His career in basketball spans three decades. Having started from humble beginnings, Mark spent many years as an elite player. He then went on to spend more than 25 years as a professional coach and teacher, touching the lives of thousands of players in Australia and across the world. Mark has coached a wide range of athletes that include male and female athletes, kids ages four through 19, young adults, seniors, deaf players, physically disabled players, and intellectually disabled players. Two of his proudest moments was coaching the first men’s Paralympic team at the test
games in Madrid, and winning the gold medal at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, USA. His love for the game and coaching wheelchair basketball is so strong that he played three years of competitive wheelchair basketball to improve his understanding of the mechanics of the game. That experience gave him invaluable insight into what it takes to teach basic skills. With this knowledge, he is able to demonstrate exactly what he requires from an athlete. He has purchased his own wheelchair and enjoys competing with other players.
In Mark’s book ‘Basketball for Beginners’ shares his 25 years of experience with his wealth of knowledge and wisdom, plus a unique accelerated system of play to help kids learn basketball strategies easily. More importantly, he ensures kids keep playing for a lifetime as well as enjoying it to the very best of their ability.

Rewiring Your Relationship Ifwillyouknowarethere in a relationship you are times when you think that your partner just doesn’t understand you. You might feel like the two of you are going around and around the merry go round in your relationship. Or perhaps you both keep arguing about the same old things without any resolution stuck in a pattern of Groundhog Day. It’s important to remember that everyone is different in how they respond, react and deal with life’s problems. What’s more to the point though is that science tells us that we, that’s all of us, are biologically and chemically hardwired for connection. As humans we are driven to connect in some shape or form with another human and whilst your partner’s frustrating behaviours, the ones that you have been trying to change for many years now, may feel like they are designed just to push your buttons, they are in fact entirely unintentional, part of his or her makeup or what I call your hard-wiring. So, if that’s just the way we are and at times it feels like we are just not right together, how do we “Rewire Our Relationship?” Understanding who and why we and others are, is the critical step to building relationships that flourish. With a deeper understanding of your own and your partners complex attachment styles you have the perfect platform to deepen your relationship because for perhaps the first time, I would like to equip you with the right tools and communication style for your unique partnership. The following are three tips that can make your relationship grow stronger...
Page 12
who and why we and “ Understanding others are, is the critical step to building relationships that flourish. ” ❤ Never assume... if you’re in doubt just ask your partner. Even if you think you know, just ask! Couples often fall into the trap of mind reading, where you assume you know what your partner is thinking and feeling and why they’re behaving the way they are.
❤ If you don’t express what you are truly feeling then that feeling will sneak out in a distorted way. This is one of my favourites as it goes to the heart of the fact that the majority of us are operating in our lives very subconsciously or on auto pilot. When we repress our feelings about something or “put them in a box” the feelings will still come out but in an unrelated way. The feelings will take us by surprise too, sneaking up on us and may burst out in a rush. It’s that old pattern of when the boss gives you a hard time and you go home and give your partner a hard time, who gives the kids a hard time, who then get annoyed at the pets!!! Where do those feelings really belong? Yep you guessed it, The Boss. If you acknowledge to yourself and/or your partner that your boss upset you or annoyed you or whatever it was that happened, the feeling is being honoured in its truest form and tends not to hang around.
❤ Repair as soon as you can. Whenever you make a mistake or error in your relationship and have upset your partner. The clock is ticking. If you

don’t sort this problem out as soon as possible by apologising, or repairing the rift between you, whatever you have done goes into your partners long term memory bank. The longer you don’t repair, the deeper and more entrenched that issue becomes in their brain. This is brain biology at its best because we are designed to retain anything we think is threatening to our survival so that we can avoid it in the future. If you want to do just one thing to strengthen your relationship then do this one! Your partner will thank you for it and you won’t have to listen to each other bring up the things that went wrong in your relationship 10, 20 or 40 years ago because it has never been repaired. 10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day By Catherine Winter
When was the last time you read a book, or a substantial magazine article? Do your daily reading habits center around tweets, Facebook updates, or the directions on your instant oatmeal packet? If you’re one of countless people who don’t make a habit of reading regularly, you might be missing out. Reading has a significant number of benefits, and here are 10 benefits of reading to get you to start reading. We’ll cover 5 of them in this issue.
Mental Stimulation Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, since keeping your brain active and engaged prevents it from losing power. Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy, so the phrase “use it or lose it” is particularly apt when it comes to your mind.
Stress Reduction
No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, while an engaging article will distract you and keep you in the present moment, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax.
Knowledge
Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face. Additionally, here’s a bit of food for thought: should you ever find yourself in dire circumstances, remember that although you might lose everything else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—knowledge can never be taken from you.
Vocabulary Expansion The more you read, the more words you gain exposure to, and they’ll inevitably make their way into your everyday vocabulary.
Being articulate and well-spoken is of great help in any profession, and knowing that you can speak to higher-ups with self-confidence can be an enormous boost to your self-esteem. It could even aid in your career, as those who are well-read, well-spoken, and knowledgeable on a variety of topics tend to get promotions more quickly (and more often) than those with smaller vocabularies and lack of awareness of literature, scientific breakthroughs, and global events.
Memory Improvement
When you read a book, you have to remember an assortment of characters, their backgrounds, ambitions, history, and nuances, as well as the various arcs and sub-plots that weave their way through every story. That’s a fair bit to remember, but brains are marvellous things and can remember these things with relative ease. Amazingly enough, every new memory you create forges new synapses (brain pathways) and strengthens existing ones, which assists in short-term memory recall as well as stabilising moods. How cool is that? Keep an eye out for the next 5 Benefits in the December issue!

Ways to use the Cloud in your Small Business The cloud refers to a centralised location on the internet that stores data, making it accessible anytime, anywhere, from any connected device. Small businesses have embraced the cloud because it has a number of benefits including reduced cost, ease of use, flexibility and automation. Here are some of the ways small businesses can use the cloud.
2. Mobile Working
1. Data Backup As a small business owner, you probably are already aware of the importance of backing up your data so you don’t lose everything in case of systems failure or other disaster. The Cloud not only simplifies the process by allowing your data to automatically update as you work, but it also creates copies of your data off-site where it will be safe from any local natural disaster, theft or malfunction.
One of the great benefits of technology is the ability for small business owners to create fully functional mobile offices. The cloud fits in perfectly with this because it allows you to access and sync your data from wherever you are, allowing you to take your office with you on the road.
4. Growth Planning
3. Information Sharing Whether you have in-house staff or a team spread across a distance, the cloud makes sharing data effortless. Once you have your data backed up, sharing files can be as easy as sending a link, eliminating the cumbersome process of emailing large files.
The cloud is scalable, so it allows small businesses to create a plan for growth that utilises the benefits of the cloud without a significant up-front investment. You can start small and gradually increase your usage over time, paying only for what you need. The cloud is also self-managed by the apps that provide the services, so you can reduce the need for in-house IT staff to manage your technology.
If you are ready to put the cloud to work for your 5. File Storage business, you can start small so you can see the benefits without making major changes to your Many small businesses use images, operations. Over time, you will discover new audio, and video to enhance their ways to use and benefit from the cloud. marketing activities, and these files often take up a significant part of your hard drive space, which can be costly. The cloud allows you to shift the storage of large files off of your local system, saving local storage for the files you need to access every day. Page 15
