Project STEAM MD! Exposing to students to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) raises self esteem and promotes entrepreneurship
The Maker Movement!

The Maker Movement is a revolutionary movement that has been driven by new tools and technology, such as 3-D printing, robotics, microprocessors, wearable computing, and smart materials. Programming languages are being invented at an unprecedented rate. New tools and new technology equal new and more aordable learning opportunities. The Maker Movement combines all educational disciplines and several skill sets to creatively solve problems and explore your imagination. ! Project STEAM MD is part of the Maker Movement. This weekend we had the opportunity to visit the Maker Fair in Silver Spring, Maryland. We made great connections within the Maker Community. We were able to inspire and get inspired! Looking Back! Legos, Programming, Drawing, and Painting
Instant Challenge
During the week of September 8th the theme was "All About Me". The students were able to draw and paint characters that will later represent them in a a video game environment. In Project STEAM MD we like to contrast and combine traditional and digital design techniques. Following along with the "All About Me " theme the students designed interactive presentations using Scratch (programming environment). The students also participated in a timed challenge in which they attempted to construct a bridge with a limited selection of materials. !
This Week ! Constructions, 3D , Bridges and More! Project STEAM MD will transition between projects and themes during the week. Our goals for this week are:! • Introduce students to new building techniques using wood and hot glue. !
Instant Challenge
• Introduce students to the history and architectural concepts of bridges. ! • Complete our first programming projects and post them online. !
Next Week ! A Bridge to Another World Next week will use our knowledge of bridges to begin building in a 3D digital environment. We will discuss and explore the idea of building bridges to other worlds.
