SAVE THE DATES

save the date project wedding 6

PERSONALIZE YOUR SAVE THE DATES AND CREATE A LASTING IMPRESSION WITH THESE SPARKLY SAVE-THE-DATE BOXES.

1

Gather the materials needed: scalloped punch, one sheet of sparkly scrapbook paper, one sheet of white card stock, baker’s twine or thin jute, double-sided tape, gold washi tape, small box, picture of the couple.

2

Print the words “save,” “the,” “date” and the date of your wedding on cardstock, small enough to be punched out with the scalloped punch. Space the words three inches apart from one another. Punch out each of the words with the scalloped circle.

3

Punch out 13 scalloped circles from the ornate scrapbook paper. Next, punch out the photo of the couple with the scalloped punch.

4

Lay eight gold circles face down on the table, leaving two inches between each, and then place a piece of doublesided tape to the back of each circle. Lay the baker’s twine or jute down the center of the circles. Next, attach the remaining circles to the corresponding gold circle in the following order: gold circle, photo of the couple, printed “save” circle, printed “the” circle, printed “date” circle, gold circle and ending with a photo of the couple.

5

Lastly, attach the string to the top of the box with gold washi tape. To package the save the date into the box, gently layer the circles, careful not to tangle the string. Close the box, decorate with washi tape and address the save the date with a Sharpie. Finally, head to the post office to send your save the date to your friends and family who are in for a great surprise.

guest book Turn your mother’s antique dresser and an old mailbox into an elegant alternative to the traditional guest book. Provide cards and pencils for your guests and ask them to write down a piece of advice or a nice note for you to read after your wedding. Not only will you have a guest list, but also a unique collection of love, advice and knowledge from your family and friends.

bird cage jute wool fabric scissors small wooden letters black paint vase flowers of your choice ribbon

1

Hoping to skip out on tradition and leave a lasting memory of a beautiful wedding day? Set up a card table using an antique bird cage to house the cards from your guest. To personalize your card table, string fabric triangles from the top and adhere wooden letters for the perfect indication of the set up. Decorate the table with a vase of flowers and doilies to complete the look of vintage chic.

project wedding 16

materials:old suitcase, large wooden

letters, pattered scrapbook paper, mod podge, clothespins, large ribbon, paint brush, doily, vase and flowers of your choice If the bride and groom can’t find the perfect bird cage to meet their needs, using an old suitcase is the perfect alternative for a vintage card table appeal. To create this look, cover large wooden letters, available at any craft store, with patterned scrapbook paper that matches your theme. Attach the letters to thick ribbon with clothespins and hang inside the suitcase as desired. Fill the suitcase with doilies and place a vase with flowers next to the display.

To replicate the second set of table numbers, purchase your choice of frames from your local craft store, a burlap sheet, number stencils and black paint. Lay the stencil on the burlap sheet and use the black paint to fill the stencil. Once the paint dries, trim the burlap sheet and tape the sheet to the back of the frame.

17

Making the decision about table arrangements will be the bride and grooms only problem when it comes to decorating the table. These beautiful and simple table numbers will complete your tablescape, and allow for easy navigation for your guests. When creating the first set of table numbers, you will need framed chalkboards, wired leaves (both available at your local craft store), burlap ribbon, a glue gun and chalk. Cut six inch strips of the burlap ribbon and roll tight, creating a flower bud. Repeat this step until there are three

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line two 12-cup cupcake pans with paper liners of your choice. Pulse the almonds in a food processor until they are a fine powder. Put the powdered almonds in a small bowl and set aside. Sift the cake flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a large bowl and set aside. Beat the butter and shortening together on medium speed until creamy, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add the sugar, vanilla and almond extract and beat on medium speed until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and beat until combined. Turn the mixer to low and add the flour mixture, alternating with ice water in three additions, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. In a clean bowl, whisk the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Do not overbeat. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter. Fold in the powdered almonds. Fill the cupcake liners three quarters full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through baking time. Transfer the pans to a wire rack and let cool for 20 minutes. Remove the cupcakes from the pan and place them on the rack to cool completely.

In a medium saucepan, whisk the sugar, flour and matcha powder together. Add the milk and heavy cream and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture comes to a boil and has thickened, about 20 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Beat on high speed until cool. Reduce the speed to low and add the butter, mix until combined. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and continue beating until combined. If the frosting is too soft put it in the refrigerator to chill slightly, then mix it again until it is the proper consistency. diy food styling with

FOOD BARS

JOHANNA LOWE

Johanna Lowe, a London native, is a photographer at heart. Leaving her once beloved passion, Lowe ventured into selling vintage clothing. Realizing once again that it is photography that she loved, Lowe found her way back into photography as a stylist - with a tendency towards food. Now a well-know food stylist, Project Wedding seeks her styling tips:

DECORATE THE TABLE If you are using fresh herbs for garnishing, ‘charge’ them in ice cold water then store in zip locks with a damp paper towel in the fridge until ready to use. If a sundown event, make sure the table is lit beautifully. It needs to be seductive but lit enough so your guests can see the food. Have one main item as the focal point and build your scape around that.

USE YOUR IMAGINATION

4

KEEP FOOD FRESH

Be imaginative with sourcing your materials to build your table. Go to thrift stores, estate sales, ask friends and family what they have in their attic or basement. Keep the menu simple and focused. Consider a family- style buffet table with large rustic platters of simple pasta dishes, a roast chicken and a big green salad. It will look abundant and will encourage communality. These types of dishes are also less expensive to prepare.

Keeping the food fresh and refreshed. Keeping the table looking presentable. You will need to recruit your family and friends to take care of this for you. Keep salads tossed regularly and add fresh when necessary. Nothing looks worse than an almost empty dish of food so either remove or top it up. Refresh tired garnishes regularly. Clean up any spills, however small, immediately.

styling: http://johannabrannanlowe.com store: http://martyngeorge.com studio: http://richmondlowe.com

anna Low e

Above all else keep it simple. Start with your ‘theme.’ Make sure this theme carries through from beginning to end so there is coherence. However, that’s not to say two themes can’t co-exist beautifully together; for instance, urban farmhouse or industrial chic. It’s a good idea for your table to be set against something be that a wall or a screen or something that sets it off like a stage. Do not design your table arrangement before you design your menu. You need to know what food you are serving in order to know how to present it. Once this is determined, you will want to set your plates/platters etc. with varying degrees of height and depth. This layering effect will not only provide visual eye candy but will also make the table appear more full.

Including children in the reception can seem overwhelming, but keeping the little ones happy is easier that you think. Create a table of kid-friendly fun in a separated area with

a coordinating theme to make them feel they are still a part of the party. Include all kids favorite things – crayons, coloring pages, Animal Crackers, candy and balloons, and they will be sure to have the time of their lives. For more kids table ideas visit projectweddingmagazine.com
