Emergence ‘Scratch’ Award

 Do you have an exciting new idea for a performance with young people?  Would you benefit from professional support to develop your idea and practice?  Would you like to showcase your ‘scratch’ performance at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh to get audience and industry feedback? Then the Chrysalis festival ‘Emergence’ platform might be for you! Emergence is a brand new scratch performance platform that is part of the Chrysalis festival 2016 which will take place from Friday 18 – Sunday 20 November. Artists working in collaboration with young people have the opportunity to present a short performance in the early stages of growth. We are looking for groups who are making experimental, risk-taking work and attempting to push the art form of youth theatre. The Emergence Platform will be hosted by Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS) in the Traverse 2 studio space, with in-house technical support. The directors and companies selected will receive mentoring and support from YTAS’s Creative Learning Manager between August and November 2016, in the run up to presenting their work at the festival. The audience will be invited to feed back on all the the scratch pieces in a variety of structured and supportive ways to inform their future development. Artists and groups selected will receive £350 towards the development and presentation of their scratch performance. They can additionally request a contribution towards travel costs to attend the festival. YTAS’s Creative Learning Manager can also assist groups to secure further support from local partners and venues in the development of their new work. 3 Emergence Awards are available as part of the Chrysalis festival in 2016. One of these is the ‘Saltire Young Leader Award’ for an emerging Artist or Director aged 16-25.
