Introduction The Chrysalis festival is a platform for ambitious performances by young theatre-makers. It showcases emerging talent, sparks critical debate and challenges perceptions of youth theatre. Chrysalis is staged at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, and is curated with the support of a consortium of industry specialists. The festival is the only platform of its kind in Scotland and it offers a new experience for audiences new to youth theatre arts. The festival aims to:

Dates, venue and programme Friday 11 – Sunday 13 November 2016 – Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh The shows that are selected for the Chrysalis festival will each perform twice over the weekend. In 2016 the festival will also include a selection of new ideas and works that are still in development as part of a new ‘Emergence’ platform. Details of how to propose and idea to develop for ‘Emergence’ will be published in April 2016.
Application Guidelines The guidelines below are for groups interested in their work being considered for presentation at the Chrysalis festival 2016.
Performance participants should be aged 14-25. The work presented must be created within the 2 years prior to application. A live performance of the work should be available to view between February and June 2016. Applicants must demonstrate strong advanced preparation in their application and supporting material. Applications should be a joint effort between the group leader/practitioner and their young theatremakers. Applicants must be YTAS member organisations or willing to become a member if selected. N.B. If your group does not fully meet these guidelines but your production matches the aims and criteria for the festival, we would still welcome an application and further discussion about your work.

Timeline Applications for Chrysalis 2016 are welcomed from youth theatre groups from within or out with Scotland. Applications are made via this online form and applicants are encouraged to include supporting material (e.g. video footage or images of recent work).
