Introduction Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS) is an in-touch, inspirational and pioneering national youth arts organisation and the new post of Sector Engagement Officer (part time) offers you an excellent opportunity to join a high-achieving team and take ownership of a core objective of the organisation. In order to reflect the growth and diversity of youth theatre delivered across the country, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland has secured funding from the Robertson Trust to carry out targeted development work in different regions across Scotland. We are looking for someone who is confident, focussed and enthusiastic to help us shape this new role and the benefits for Scotland’s youth theatre sector. You will need to fit comfortably into an informal but hardworking environment and your role will require you to work well on your own initiative and collaborate with multiple project partners and members of the YTAS team. As Sector Engagement Officer you will be working on a new project with priorities that include: •
Working with youth theatre groups in targeted regions to strengthen their local networks.

Coordinating professional development opportunities for youth theatre leaders to help improve delivery in their local community.

Developing new resources and toolkits that improve access and participation in youth theatre.

Supporting collaborations between youth theatre groups who want to develop regional projects together.

Sector Engagement Officer
Job Purpose:
To develop and deliver YTAS’s new regional development activities
Responsible to:
CEO, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland
Key activities and responsibilities: Project Co-ordination and Delivery •
Support the development of YTAS’s regional development plan.
•
Implement the regional development project activity funded by the Robertson Trust.
•
Work with youth theatre groups in targeted regions to strengthen their youth theatre local networks.
•
Establish new and strengthen existing regional partnerships for YTAS.
•
Co-ordinate professional development training to youth theatre leaders in targeted regions to improve delivery in their local community.
•
Develop new resources and toolkits that help improve access and participation in youth theatre.
•
Support collaborations between youth theatre groups who want to develop regional projects together.
•
Support the development of young theatre-makers ‘skills and capacity’ through regional project activity, including developments to youth leadership.
•
Oversee all evaluation and reporting connected to YTAS’s regional development activity.
•
Provide support to member youth theatre organisations or freelancers as required.
•
Liaise with the CEO and Training Manager with respect to regional advocacy and development opportunities, including areas of investment and improvement.
•
Liaise regularly with all members of the YTAS team over shared project and services responsibilities.
•
Update and inform YTAS budgets, with particular focus on regional development activity.
•
Carry out all administration duties and responsibilities required for the successful achievement of your role, and YTAS’s programme objectives.
General •
Effectively and independently managing your own workload and schedule in line with colleagues and project partners.

Attend staff meetings as required and other planning and reporting meetings as required.
•

Person Specification
It is essential that you are: •
Confident at working independently and effectively managing your own workload.
•
A natural collaborator who is enthusiastic about meeting and working with a diverse range of people and project partners.
•
Resourceful and creative in project planning and delivery.
•
Driven to support others through your work.
It is essential that you have: •
At least three years’ experience facilitating or coordinating community arts projects.
•
Direct experience of, or a passion for, the youth theatre arts sector in Scotland.
•
Excellent planning and time management skills with a proven ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
•
Good IT skills with a high level of literacy in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
•
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
•
A full-clean driving licence, with access to your own transport.
And it would be desirable if you also have: •
Experience of working in office and team planning settings.
•
An understanding of youth arts delivery across different regions in Scotland.
•
Experience of coordinating a project team.
•
Experience of reporting to funders.
Further information
Term of contract:
Your contract will be fixed-term until 31 March 2018.
Salary:
Your salary will be £22,000 per annum (0.6FTE, 3 days a week).
Place of work:
The normal current place of work is YTAS’s office at Summerhall, Edinburgh but due to the nature of the role and responsibilities regular travel is expected. You will also be required on occasion to work at other locations on a temporary basis.
