Fire Fighting Foams

Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals has been manufacturing fire extinguishing foam concentrates and dry chemical powders in England for over 50 years. Cost efficiency, maximum fire extinguishing performance, versatility and storage stability have all been achieved through a commitment to ongoing research and product development.

Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals is one of Europe’s leading foam producers with a wide range of products both natural protein based and synthetic chemical based with comprehensive approvals. Its global distribution network covers more than 60 countries.

Proteinic Foams Profoam (Protein) Protein foam liquid based on hydrolysed natural protein with added salts to provide an environmentally gentle and stable foam blanket at minimum cost. Protein based foams are used particularly in the marine industry and for personnel training. Profoam is available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate. Fluorofoam (FluoroProtein) High quality FluoroProtein foam liquids combine good extinction and burnback properties on hydrocarbon fuel fires with modest cost and good foam stability. Fluorofoam uses telomer based fluorocarbon surfactants to provide effective hydrocarbon storage tank fire protection. Fluorofoam is available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate. Extra performance can be obtained by using Fluorofoam 903 Plus, a 3% concentrate specially formulated for use on 100% MTBE, unleaded gasoline mixes with up to 17% MTBE and a wide range of hydrocarbon fuels. These products are independently listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to its UL162 Standard. Centrifoam (Film-Forming FluoroProtein) Centrifoam is a high quality blend of hydrolysed natural proteins with telomer based fluorocarbon surfactants. Excellent fire control and extinguishing performance is combined with good re-sealing capability and superior burn-back resistance. Centrifoam is ideally suited to aviation applications and is available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate with UL 162 Listing and ICAO level B certification. Centrifoam AR (Alcohol Resistant FFFP) A multi-purpose natural protein based foam for use on a wide range of both hydrocarbon and polar solvent fuel fires. Two grades are available, a 3x3 for use at 3% on hydrocarbon and polar solvent fuels, and a 3x6 effective at just 3% concentration on hydrocarbons, but requiring 6% induction on all polar solvent chemicals. Both products are UL Listed.

Synthetic Foams Filmfoam (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) Synthetic detergent based Filmfoam concentrates are made from a sophisticated blend of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants. Their high fluidity on film formation on most hydrocarbon fuels provides quick extinction and ensures good re-sealing capability if the blanket is disturbed. Filmfoam is available as a 1%, 3% or 6% concentrate. It is widely used in the offshore and aviation industries. The extensive range includes products certified to UL162, ICAO level B, EN-1568 Section 3 and UK Defence Standard 42-40. Filmfoam AR (Alcohol Resistant AFFF) A synthetic detergent based Aqueous Film-Forming Foam with a water soluble polymer which has been developed specifically for use on a wide range of hydrocarbon and polar solvent fires. Filmfoam AR is certified to EN1568 and UL Listed under the UL162 Standard. Hifoam (High Expansion) A mix of synthetic foaming agents makes this concentrate perform exceptionally well when used at medium and high expansion. Hifoam can be used at expansion ratios from 10:1 to 1,000:1.

Freeze protection Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals can modify the freezing point of specific foam concentrates to provide extra freeze protection down as low as -25°C. Freeze protected versions of Filmfoam, Centrifoam and Fluorofoam are available.

When only the best will do be mixed together in the same storage tank, as this will result in stability problems and poor fire fighting performance. Types of Water Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals’ foams are formulated for use with fresh water, sea and brackish water. Powder Compatibility Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals foam concentrates are suitable for use with our wide range of foam compatible dry powders. For specific information regarding compatibility please contact us directly.

Storage A long storage life is assured for all Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals foam concentrates, whether protein or synthetic based. Specific storage information for each product is provided on the data sheet. Foam Compatibility All Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals foam concentrates are compatible for use along side other foam concentrates during an emergency situation when produced through separate foam proportioning equipment. For specific handling conditions, please refer to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). If the foam concentrate is required to be mixed in long term storage with another reputable product of the same foam type, we recommend that our technical assistance is sought to ensure the shelf life of our product is not compromised. Two foam concentrates of differing foam types should never

Technical Support Full technical support is provided to cover advice and assistance on the most suitable foams to choose; application rates for specific fuels; testing of customer equipment and in-house foam sample test facilities to monitor foam condition. Quality Control Quality assurance is paramount at Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals.
