CommunityConnections UPCOMING PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES PANTRY REMINDERS To ensure Loaves & Fishes operates efficiently for all clients, we must enforce the following policies:

Voter Registration Available During Pantry Distributions Register to vote on September 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 20 and 22 during pantry distribution hours: In order to register to vote an individual must meet 3 qualifications: 1) Must be a citizen of the United States, 2) Must be eighteen years of age by Election Day (November 6) and 3) Must be a resident of the precinct for 30 days as of the next election. You must also provide 2 forms of identification. (one with a current residence)

Give Your Children a Great Start! Sign your children up for Metropolitan Family Services DuPage Head Start Programs. Head Start is available for families in DuPage County with children from birth to age 5. It’s free! Head Start offers programs to help children learn and get ready for school. Enrollment is open now for families who meet income guidelines or have a child with a disability or special needs. For locations and to learn more call 630-784-4801.

De A Sus Hijos Un Gran Comienzo Inscriba a sus hijos en los programas de Head Start de Metropolitan Family Services DuPage. Immunization Services Immunization Services are offered at the Central Public Health Center (Wheaton), Southeast Public Health Center (Westmont), and East Public Health Center (Lombard) Offices by appointment. Both childhood and adult immunizations are available for a fee. In addition, childhood immunizations are available for all children who do not have insurance, or have insurance that does not cover immunizations, through Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. Questions about specific childhood

or adult vaccines available or clinic schedules should be directed to the DCHD, as clinic times, vaccine availability, and supplies may vary. For further information or to schedule an appointment please call (630) 682-7400.

Would you like to experience the joy of flight? Are you between the ages of 8 and 17?

You can receive a FREE local airplane ride from a volunteer pilot of the Young Eagles Program. The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered FREE of charge. EAA Chapter 461 will conduct flights at the Young Eagles Rally Events on Saturday, September 8th and Saturday, October 13th from 9 am until noon. The flights are taken from the Illinois Aviation Museum hangar at Clow International Airport in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Most Young Eagle flights last 15 – 20 minutes. No advance sign up is needed. All you do is show up the day of the Young Eagles Rally event and complete the registration form. Kids Teen Rider offers safe and cost-effective transportation service for kids and teenagers. Riders must live in Naperville/ Aurora School Districts 203 & 204 or surrounding areas. LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) can help. An overdue bill or disconnect notice is not required to receive LIHEAP assistance. Applications will be taken at Loaves & Fishes starting September 1 according to the following restrictions: September 1 appointments only for: • Households with disconnected services • A household member receiving Social Security Disability • Senior (60+) household member

Tutoring in English Would you like to improve your English speaking, reading and writing skills, but find it impossible to attend classes? Literacy DuPage offers tutoring schedules that are customized to meet your needs. Contact Literacy DuPage at 630-416-6699 and tell them that Loaves & Fishes sent you.

Parent Café Wondering if your child is experimenting with drugs or alcohol? A confidential, free support group has been organized by Rosecrance in Naperville. No need to call, just show up any Tuesday at 7pm. Support group held at 608 S. Washington St, Suite 211. For more information call 815-3875615.!

November 1 – All eligible households may apply. Please have copies of the originals for the following: • Social Security cards for all family members • Proof of last 30 days of income • Most recent gas and/or electric bills • Proof of rental cost • If a member of your household receives TANF or AABD benefits, bring the “Medical Eligibility Card.”

Out of Poverty Program Catholic Charities offers a FREE Out of Poverty program to help families take control of their goals, time, and money for a prosperous future. Work against hunger, homelessness, unemployment and low self-esteem. Classes are held each Monday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, September 17 – November 5. Babysitting services are available for those in need. To register call Yvonne Morrongiello at 630-495-8008 ext. 2122

Hands & Feet Outreach St. Paul Lutheran Church is sponsoring an outreach program at 537 S. Ardmore in Villa Park to help those in DuPage County who need item which cannot be purchased by food stamps (soap, toothpaste, diapers, shampoo, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and more). Hands and Feet will be open the first Sunday of the month from 2-4pm. Call 630-832-5580 if you have questions. Bring ID or lease to show address.

Car Seat Distribution Program The DuPage County Health Department and the CareLink Foundation offer a car seat distribution program through classes throughout the year. Class size is limited. Register early by calling 630-682-7400. You must have All Kids, Access DuPage, WIC or show specific need.

Low Interest Car Loans Loans made through the Ways-To-Work organization help families buy or repair a car, allowing parents to more easily meet job demands while raising a child. Must be employed 20 hours a week for at least 6 months, and reside in Cook, DuPage County or Aurora. Other qualifiers apply. Call 1-877-601-2769, or visit www.waystowork.org for more information.

Public Benefit Assistance If you are facing an emergency, or need help in understanding the community assistance that might be available to you or your household, meet with a representative from Loaves & Fishes while you are at the pantry. •

Illinois Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP)

Submit your application online for additional food for your family. Benefits are provided on the Link Card, an electronic card that can be used at most grocery stores.

• Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) This assistance program helps eligible households pay winter gas or electric bills. See information above. •
