We assume most people know you as a pro skater (recently Gold medal at Austin X-Games), but tell us 3 things people should know about you: - I work full time as a graphic designer - I play music - I love clothes!

Born and raised Californian? I was born and raised in Southern California in a suburb town called Covina (about 20 miles east of downtown LA). I moved to Los Angeles when I was 19 and it has been really great to be on my own! As a Cali girl, what are you favorites spots? Do

you feel more for skateparks or street spots? The skateboarding is great in LA. I really love skating street spots where you can get creative and somewhat technical. More importantly, I like to stay low to the ground to avoid injuries! Skate parks and street spots are both great, I just like to have fun. Do you travel a lot with the sport? There were a lot more opportunities to travel when I was a teenager. Prague is definitely my favorite of all the places I have been so far. I don’t travel as much these days because I work full time and there simply aren’t as many reasons to go anywhere, nor do we (women in skateboarding) get enough support to do things like that. Luckily we have some things in the works to create a community where women who shred can get support, so there is a lot to look forward to in the coming years! Stay tuned What are the must haves during traveling? Travel light! Def must have some slipons, headphones & music, favorite

pants, favorite jacket, and obviously my skateboard! Oh, and money, lol Favorite part about skating? Any favorite trick? I love the independent nature of skateboarding. Backside 360 ollies on flatground are by far my favorite trick. It looks so good when the front foot comes off during the rotation; my goal is to get them like that. Also really into kickflipping lately.. What’s your B side? (other passions besides skateboarding) I really enjoy my work as a graphic designer! I love to play/listen to music. I love to be creative and learn. I love anything positive! And what’s your ideal night out? Hanging with friends, obviously! Keeping it fun and laughing a lot. ...and Ideal night in? Staying cozy and getting creative. Spending time with loved ones is a must.

‘I was told to be humble a lot when I was growing up which has served me well throughout my life.’

A phrase you use often‌.. hmmmmmmm... Any favorite gadgets? If I had a Tetris video game it would be that! I love the Vine app -- so much funny stuff! Creativity is really important for you, where do you find your inspiration?

PH: Aggy Ferrari +Thomas Finsterbusch

I find inspiration in positivity, music, fashion, skateboarding, design, comedy, friends & love. Best piece of advice you have been given? ‌ Want to give some advice back? I was told to be humble a lot when I was growing up which has served me well throughout my life. In more recent years I

have learned more about what it means to stay true to who I am, and that feels really great. As for advice for others, I would say that being open minded and positive is the best thing you can do because the world has so much to offer. Possibilities are endless!

Tell us something that would surprise us about yourself? I used to ride freestyle motocross for a bit. What’s your favorite part about skiing? Just being out in the mountains with good friends! Where’s you favorite place to snowboard at? Ajax mountain, Aspen, CO. If you couldn’t skiing for a living, what would you be doing instead? I would work in the beer industry. What’s your favorite thing to do when your not skiiing? Surf! Do you have a favorite quote and who is it from? “Don’t talk about it, be about it” from an amazing guy who left us too soon, Austin Corry. 3 things I never ride without: Snow, skis, mountains Anything you would like to add? Cheers to another season full of pow!

PH: Thomas Finsterbusch

Name: Wylie Adams. But people know me by: Wylie or Wylestyle. Age: 21 From: Carbondale, Colorado. Sponsors: Aspen/Snowmass, Salomon, Bonfire, Smith Optics, Celtek, Stance, Skullcandy, Mobbin Wear. You can find me on the social medias: No social media at then moment but if you search #wylestyle you will find a lot of photos of me riding.

You are a local Aspen rider, were you born and raised here by the mountains? I was born in Aspen and grew up in the town of Carbondale which is 40 minutes down the roaring fork valley so I was exposed to the mountains practically from the time I was born. I think being so close to the mountains is what has enabled me to have such a great appreciation for what they have to offer aside from just snowboarding. There is something special about going into the backcountry and just soaking in the fresh mountain air and hearing no other noises besides the wilderness around me. It is just so refreshing to step away from the real world for a few days and just have no worries at all. It gives me time to think about who I am as a person and it really provides the balance I need to have with so much going on.

wylies faves Favorite resort: Aspen/Snowmass Favorite trick: Cab 9. Favorite on mountain snack: Clif Bar. Favorite Snowboarding video: Forum “Vacation.

At what age did you started snowboarding? Was becoming a pro athlete always in your mind? I started snowboarding when I was 5 years old after a couple of years of skiing I just wanted to be on a board. I would say that by the time I was 11 or 12, the idea of snowboarding as a profession really popped into my head especially after I got into watching all the snowboard movies coming out at the time. Do you compete? What’s your favorite part about snowboarding? I used to do quite a lot of slope-style and big air contests but the last couple of seasons I have taken a step back from traveling to contests and have really enjoyed riding Aspen as much as possible. I love competing though because it gives me a chance to lay it all on the line. When I nail the run I have been working on all of practice it is one of the best feelings I have gotten on a snowboard. My favorite aspect of snowboarding is definitely riding as much powder as possible. This past season was a record year in terms of the number of powder days I was able to go out and ride in. One of those days (and this isn’t exaggerating) we received 2 feet over night and I went to highlands where all the runs are long and steep and it was the best day I have ever had on my snowboard, hands down. The highlands bowl is basically a backcountry bowl but happens to be in bounds(huge thanks to ski patrol for making this happen) so once you have conquered the 30 minute hike, the sickest, steepest runs await your descent and that is where we went on that day and the feeling at the bottom of the run was honestly indescribable. What’s in your new bucket of tricks? Any on your ‘to learn’ list? This season I learned cab 9’s a different way where I would put some late dip into them and they would be a super late dump instead of doing just a regular double which I really like. For nest season I would really like to be able to a couple front double 10’s because I haven’t done them in awhile. It is such a scary trick it just isn’t something I want to do everyday on the hill. Also, get some cab 270’s on lock because I have a real hard time with those. What sums up your style? I would say my style is just being as smooth as possible whether it be hitting jumps or just cruising down the mountain, I just try to flow as much as possible and try to be on point with every trick that I do. Describe your perfect day from minute you get up to when you go to bed… The best days for me are when I wake up, have a really nice breakfast, probably some pancakes with fresh fruit or waffles and get my stuff together and

head up to the hill around 8am. Usually pick up a few friends along the way and we head up to Snowmass where it is a completely socked in snowy day where we received 8 inches fresh the night before. We get on the 6 pack and head strait for the high alpine chair so we can hike the wall before everybody else. I love having a mixed group of skiers and snowboarders because my skier friends just approach the mountain in a different way so it is really fun to watch them ski the terrain. Every run we would be hooting and hollering at each other after the sickest slashes and the so many face shots you loose track. Around 2pm we would head down to the Snowmass mall and grab a breakfast burrito at Fuel (Best place to eat hands down). After lunch we might sneak in a couple more runs before closing and then head down to the rodeo lot and drive home with the talk being about the lines we did and we just cant get over how much fun it was. Then I would get home, dry my stuff out and sink into the couch and think about how I cant wait for the next day to come so I can do it all over again! Do you have a favorite quote and who is it from? I wouldn’t say this is a favorite quote or anything but the best life advice I have been given is the just have as much fun as you can in not just snowboarding but in life because there becomes a point when I wont be able to ride or do the things I love to do at the same level I do them at now so it is key to take advantage of that and not let it slip away. What are you most looking forward to for the 2014/15 Aspen Snowmass season? What a tough question! Man I would have to say I am most looking forward to two things; one being those mid February days where the snow is that perfect firmness where you can jump all day in the park and the conditions remain perfect still. I love just lapping when its cold out and you feel the bit of the cool air as your dropping in for your line. The other is the epic pow days where you wake up super early and almost catch first chair with just a couple friends we lap all our favorite zones over and over until we are completely exhausted. Also want to give a huge shoutout to Cat, Meredith, and Lindsy at SkiCo for helping me out the past couple seasons. You guys seriously make it happen! And big thanks to Thomas and Aggy for coming out to Snowmass and shooting with me for this article.

Flights had been booked for Harley Clifford, Bob Soven, Raph

Derome, accompanied by rider/filmer, Mr Colin Harrington. Bonnie Doon was the destination- which is fed by the majestic Lake Eildon, in the small village of Victoria, Australia. All we needed to organise was a boat, guaranteed to pump some deep, freshwater wakes for our guests. Melbourne’s Skiforce/Nautique put their hand up. Not only were they going to provide us with two brand new G23, they we going to bring down a few other boats from the range, and put on a last minute demo day for punters to come and have a go. With both boats fuelled and camera batteries charged, we were set to make the morning magic hour. Simultaneously at around 5:30am, alarms went off throughout the motel. We threw our gear into the two boats, and drove across the bridge to the boat ramp, mesmerised by the butter factory around us. Everyone was getting amped. The pumps just couldn’t fill fast enough. It seems that as water pumps get faster at pumping, boats are built with more ballast capacity - and the G23 was no exception. The thing is just massive. And standing next to it on the trailer is a real eye-opener. ‘Wet hair, or dry hair?’ he yelled out to Colin, who was busy setting up the Red. We all laughed, as Bob decided dry would be a good start. With Bonnie Doon looking the way it was, we didn’t need to discuss what direction to head. The whole thing was a sheet of glass, and without another boat in sight. We literally started shooting the moment we left the boat ramp. These are the sort of days we dream of. An air of productivity filled the chase boat. How would one describe Bob’s riding? Explosive, yet controlled; confident; comfortable. With a combination of perfect

handle control, boost and style, Bob’s free-riding truly is something to behold. His set was filled with a perfect combination of slow, blown-out glides and lengthy-grabbed spins, with super-fast rotations to get you counting in quick succession; 5, 7, 9… After about half an hour of nothing but shredding, Bob threw the handle and climbed aboard.

‘Well this is certainly working out,’ says Collin with a smile. We couldn’t have been happier. And if things weren’t already going great, Harley was up next. Throwing down his usual array of tricks, it was pretty cool watching Australia’s best with the humble, rolling hills of Doon as a backdrop. Harley definitely showed us why he is the best, throwing a

trick that only a handful of people have been willing to try - a double tantrum off the wake - which he stomped first go. Last but not least, was the French-Canadian, Raph Derome. His warm-up routine is probably worth a mention. There’s an array of moves, including jumping jacks, windmills and running on the spot, performed on the rear engine hatch to

the music of his choice, which was a tad surprising. At the time, his favourite song to ride to was ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ by Ingrid Michaelson, and if you search that on youtube, you will probably be a little shocked. It’s definitely not the kind of song you would usually relate to an extreme sports athlete, however, it did suit Raph and his soft and humble personality. Raph also paraded his newly acquired sunburn; which had started peeling quite considerably. He assured us all that it wasn’t a pleasant feeling. After a brief warm up, he was into it, breaking glass, slashing the monster wake, and then came the serious stuff. Pretty simply, he did what he has made a name of doing so well - smashing out a few glides. Big. Floaty. Grabbed. Breathtaking. The way he twists and reaches to get the grabs on is unreal. The mid-morning sun was lighting up the still perfectly flat conditions just righ The boys found a nice line in and around some trees, to lay down a few double ups. It mixed up the scenary a bit, gave us some weird backdrops with the old, twisted branches poking up through the glassy water. After running through the oder once again, it was time to head back to the pub, and fill our rumbling stomachs.

The following morning did not dissappoint. The 5:30am wake up was a bit easier for everyone having done it the day before, it wasn’t such a shock to the system and things ran smoothly. The lake was a sheet of glass again, there was no dramas filling up phat sacs and the sun was just rising over the hills casting some beautiful warm rays across the lake. As the day went on however, we had other boats come out to play, which started making things a bit tricky. Not only did the public want to ride and play themselves, a few got very intrigued as to what was happening - it’s not every day that you have some of the best wakeboarders in the world being filmed at your favourite holiday destination - so

they would follow with excitement to see what was happening. Some of them getting in the way and others just sending annoying rollers directly into the path of the riders, making it difficult for them to get a clean crack at the wake. The demo went off with a boom! After the boys had their sets, it was back to the Bonnie Doon Hotel for some food and beverages, and of course time to meet and greet the superstars. No doubt why Aspen is the diva of the ski resorts in the USA. Worldwide speaking, it could be perfectly compared to the St. Mortiz glam, but of course with that american mojo.

W

andering around the town, you will certain get that reminiscence of New York as you see the red brick buildings, but then you raise your view and you find yourself surrounded by mountains, and instantly brings your back to that perfect tale. Of course, the surrounding landscape is the winner. Aspen is located in the state of Colorado, in the american midwest. From Denver, its a 3-4 hour ride, with a road that totally worths it. Otherwise, the alternative is to fly to Aspen’s airport, just 5 minutes from “downtown” and basically at the base of Buttermilk! It’s not necessary to have car, the free buses and shuttles work on the clock, and they cover all the areas with convenient routes. As one is not enough, Aspen Snowmass has four (4) skiable mountains, all different, to make sure they cover every rider preference, need or necessity. Aspen, maybe is not the cheaper place to ski if you are looking for a low-budget trip, but you will definitely pay for the quality of the terrain, great infrastructure, and a great

service, rounding up to a high end winter vacay! Besides the mountains, there’s a lot happening to take the most out of a perfect snowtrip: the best restaurants, bar options and nightspots, shopping, art galleries, and many other recreational options hard to compare to any other ski destination.

Highlands, it’s also one of the locals pick. One of the reasons (good and valid) its because it is the less visited, due less crowded. Its treasure is the Highland’s Bowl. If it snows and there’s good powder, you can’t let it go. The bowl is not always open (there’s a gate), to get up there, after the Loge lift there’s an approximate 45 minutes hike (depending on each person). No other mountain offers views of the spectacular Maroon Bells from the slopes.

Aspen

Mountain, also known as Ajax, was the first one to open as a winter sports resort. If you talk with the locals, or the old locals, it happens to be their favourite one. It has a good steep, it had the moguls, and it’s recommended for those with a intermediate/expert level of skiing/riding.

Buttermilk it’s the kids and park-rats mountain. The ultimate

winter playground for jibbers. Kids’ or beginners choice, as the runs aren’t steep and easy to learn though trails. On the other side, it has a long snowpark run, from top to bottom. Countless features to get creative: big and small rails, boxes, wallrides, jumps, and its also here in Buttermilk where the winter X-Games are held.

You can enjoy the Double Cheeseburger, an Aspen Brewing Co. beer, and watch the skiers come down the mountain. Best board tune: Four Mountain Sports, they will get your skis/board back to tip top shape Best Aspen landscape from: Take in the view from the top of Ajax at the Sundeck. Snowmass is the best all-around mountain with the longest vertical drop in the US, and maybe the most popular. It is located about 20 minutes away from Aspen town. It has it all: long runs, different difficulties options, small parks, big parks, a halfpipe...maybe it needs a little more steep, just being picky!

SKI Since I was 5 years old I spent months up in the mountains. During winter I used to go to the Club Lacar ski school in San Martin de los Andes, as many of the local kids did. I trained to compete, by the age of 15 or 16, when I became pro on the car racing I had to drop. But I still go skiing every winter.

SKATEBOARD I have to admit I don’t do it as much as I used to. The main reason is because is easy to get injured, specially wrists, and it’s what I care the most nowadays because of the races. Some years ago we built a mini ramp with my frinds inside my house, and we used to skate every week. Then I moved out and place it outdoors and it got really damaged.

MY DOGS I have two dogs, Tuerca and Principe, I enjoy being with them and taking them everywhere we go, from the beach to the mountains.

BIKE I like to bike, I get out and go around my neighborhood on 40 to 80 km trails on the road, sometimes we do off road too and get dirty! I do it for fun and to get trained.
