How does it feel to snag the Money Shot of the first ever issue? Flipping the first ever cover on the new Pro Rider Magazine is such a cool thing, getting front cover shots is always great but having the cover of the 1st ever issue rocks! How long were you working on the Super Flip before the majority of people actually heard about it? I started to work on the Super Flip around 5 weeks before Havasu. Within the week, I had it landed every time. There was actually only 3 people who knew about the Super Flip right up until my routine; I wanted to keep the element of surprise a big factor with this trick. After landing this trick, I wanted to tell the world; and knowing I couldn’t tell a soul was harder than actually learning the trick! Haha! Who would you like to thank regarding your massive success? There are so many people I could thank for my success, the list is endless from all my family, friends and sponsors which without any of their support, my dream wouldn’t have been possible. However, there are a few specific people I would like to give a special mention to: My family who have backed me 100% from day one of my riding career and always being there to support me My sponsors: Eric Malone Enterprises, Jet Pilot, Multi Power, Jet Shed, Six Hills Jet Ski, Hydro Turf, 360 Design

ear PR, So stoked to see your new magazine. My friends and I hope that you will cover some of the really epic stuff that’s going on right now with the evolution of freestyle and the horsepower game in general. It looks like it’s shaping up to be an exciting and interesting year. We are hoping to see more U.S. riders on the podium at the IJSBA World Finals too. Rock on! --David J. David, We’re stoked too. The US professional PWC scene is certainly blowing up with a mixture of hardcore pros , future superstars, and unheard of technology that we’ll be capturing as it unfolds this year. Be sure to check out your regional promoter’s schedule to see event stops near you. Ratti...... Crazy? You make the call.

............................................................................................................................................................................. Dear Pro Rider, I heard that you were coming out with a new jet ski magazine. You guys must be crazy. Every other legit rag out there has folded. What makes you think you can succeed where Cycle News, and the AWA failed? You should give up now cause you are going to fail too. GO TO HELL A**HOLES!! --John OK John, I’ll begin by letting you know you’re a very stupid, stupid person. Now lets see if we can help. I assume you own a ski. Prob-

action. Any-whoo, my advice is to welcome, and support any and all media that covers your sport. Oh, and stop sending e-mail after hitting mommy’s crack pipe. Actually, don’t bother. Just go ahead and slit your own wrists on the sharp smc edge of the hole in your 300. Remember, up and down, not side to side. Pro Rider, I am a new and upcoming rider. I love to ride my stand up in the surf everyday and have begun to start playing around with different tricks. Will your magazine also cover Freeriding as well as racing and freestyle? I have bought every video I can find in the past year, and I hope you will include stuff on the legends of surf riding too. My ski does not have too

many modifications, but runs good. I was wondering if you had any advice on how to perform different tricks? Thanks! --Tim L. Tim, you’ve come to the right place indeed. I enjoy any race in the surf. Makes for great racing, and an even better beach atmosphere. What rider do you enjoy beating the most? I highly enjoy beating everyone I race with equally. Best Memory? All my championships. Worst memory? Any DNF. (Did Not Finish) Ginger or Mary Ann? I would bang Mrs. Howl. Favorite movies? Rad, Wedding Crashers, Blow. Tunes? Nofx, Eminem If you could do a cartoon character, who would it be? Do? Like bang? I would bang any of the Flint-

Throughout your career did you ever consider leaving the sport? Yes, many times. I have achieved everything I set my mind and goals to do in Jet Ski racing. So I asked myself why I keep doing it. I came up with one answer. I love racing Jet Skis. Thanks Champ. Any shout-outs? I would like to thank my dad, and all my sponsors for supporting me.

Mike Youngs brings PWC Racing back to one of the most popular race sites among racers. Lake Tobesofkee in

W

e thought it was over. Year after year, after meeting much opposition from the forces that be, it seemed as if we would never make it back. Finally, after a few secret meetings, a few uncanny favors, and the help of local business Central Georgia Powersports, Mike Young’s Pro Hydro-X Tour was back in town to rock Lake Tobosofkee in Macon Georgia. Since its last appearance in 2004, the Macon site boasted near perfect conditions with a huge beach for the pits, babes, and spectators, and a waterfront littered with ridiculously expensive homes that most of us could only drool over. With the bright sun beaming down on the festivities, Rounds 3 and 4 were officially on. Top local riders, like the 182 of Broc Harris, and Mountain Motorsports team riders Dustin Farthing and Ryan Hardwick ripped the waters in their respective race classes. Future Threat Alec Hohnadell was also on deck as a top contender in the Pro-am Ski GP class. To conclude each of the two-day separate events, Freestylers Jason Stoyer, Michael Ratti, and Michael Petro took to the deep shoreline for an always crowd-pleasing action packed trick performance. Upon the conclusion of Round 3’s motos, riders were treated to free drinks and food just down the road at the event sponsor’s main shop, Central Georgia Powersports. One thing’s for sure, we all await the next return to Macon.

Pro Hydro-X Tour Tavares FL Part I

hen the Pro Rider team first reached Lake Dora, the “Sea Plane Capital”, in Tavares Florida, for Mike Young’s Pro Hydro-X Tour; at least six hungry awaiting alligators were spotted patrolling the course, thirsty for human jetskiier blood. Sea Plane Capital my ass, this was going to be a feeding frenzy, or so I thought. Fortunately for us, after a semi-good night’s sleep (on tour, true “rest” never really occurs), the only feeding frenzy that took place that weekend was through the culmination of racers and freestylers in the marshy waters. Runabout competitors Casey “Skinny” Moore of Neptune Racing, Jeremy Schandelmayer with Team Mean, and Ray Quintana shredded the exciting course designed by executive Course Marshall Randy Scott. Occasionally, a short intermission would take place after a race moto to allow a sea plane to taxi or land, an impressive sight. Such a sight was hardly as impressive as the freestyle classes during each afternoon. Seven riders including Florida rippers like Wamiltons Customs rider Chris Anyzeski, Super Freak team rider Lucas Vasconcelos, Alexander Petrovick and more, threw down in epic proportions with a free ride jam session that took place after the routines.

he 2011 IJSBA Pro Watercross Tour kicked off in Panama City Beach, FL. During the day the action on the water was fast and furious and at night the party was non-stop. Dustin Farthing dominated the Pro-Am Runabout open class on his Monster Energy Mountain Motorsports Kawasaki. He said, “My only real competition this weekend was me. If I ride the way I want, no one can beat me.” Flyin’ Brian Baldwin overcame a poor second moto to capture the second spot and rounding out the top three was defending IJSBA National Champion Erminio Iantosca aboard his Riva Racing Judge Motorsports Kawasaki. The Pro-Am Ski GP class featured 14 time world champion Chris MacClugage and the G.O.A.T didn’t waste any time establishing himself as the man to beat on tour this year. He checked out in all three motos riding his Monster Energy MAAC Racing boat to the top step on the box. 2010 IJSBA champ Rob Flores had some troubles in moto three but was able to hold on for second aboard his Walt’s Motorsports RaceSki.com rig. There is no lost love between these two and we should see things get dicey in this class as the season continues. The EVP Women’s Pro Beach Volleyball Tour was in town and playing on the beach right in front of the tower so naturally the racers starting mingling with the tall and tanned hotties before, during and after the racing. Collectively they decided to hit the Spinnaker Bar about ten steps from the beach once the sun went down. Panama City Beach is the number one spot for Spring Breakers and you could see why as soon as the “Cheeseburger Liquor Party” started. There were fewer clothes being worn in the bar than on the beach and you can bet more than a few people took the walk of shame the next morning.

S

top number two on for the 2011 IJSBA Watercross tour was in Montgomery, AL and the city rolled out the red carpet and gave the tour a huge dose of Southern Hospitality. The Pro-Am Runabout Open class saw some interesting stories lines with three racers getting together during the third moto that sent National Guard Yamaha rider Trey Frame and the Dean’s Team Yamaha pilot Dustin Charrier tumbling across the top of the water at 65 mph during the holeshot. Unfortunately Charrier was unable to continue but Frame did answer the bell on the restart and rode to a first place finish overall. Claude Clayton out of Tupelo, MS took second on his Judge Motorsports boat and for the second week in a row Riva Racing’s Erminio Iantosca landed on the final step of the podium. The Pro-Am Ski GP class was not without its own drama producing a dramatic crash at the start of moto two that sent defending national champ, Rob Flores flying 20 feet. Flores remounted but wasn’t a factor with Chris MacClugage taking top honors on his Monster Energy Maac Racing ride, Jim “Neu-

tron” Cebulski finishing second and the Fly Racing rider Rick Sherker claiming the final podium position. A fierce rivalry has developed in the Hydro Turf Pro Freestyle division between Jeremy “Parr Diddy” Parr and Jason “The Destroyer” Stoyer with each of them getting a win in the first two stops. They need to stay focused, however, because Michael “Rad” Ratti has steadily improved his game and is looking to unseat the pair. When it was time to rock star, the entire pits headed to The Alley Bar, right across the street from the race site. The place was teeming with hot chics and it had one of the coolest set ups ever. There was a glassed in room that was chilled to 0 degrees where they served shots in a shot glass made of frozen water. After you slammed the drink you smashed the glass on the floor. Of course that wasn’t enough for the boys on tour and they had to throw them against the walls, windows and each other to make them shatter.

HT’s Mike Bonin

H

ydro-Turf invited Pro Rider to attend the H2X Watershow in Las Vegas for a weekend of indoor racing and freestyle. 400,000 of chilly water filled the host arena at South Point Casino for riders to ride in difficult waist deep conditions. The racing was pretty damn cool on the ultra small course. Nicholas Rius took the overall for the weekend in Ski, and Casey Mauldin claimed the Sport overall. Freestyle was a show, not a competition. Sharing the arena with wakeboarders, the guys somehow were still able to pull off backflips and rolls for the crowd even though they had a hard time seeing their set up wakes in the super dark lighting. The show had a “theme” of a dark underworld or something with fire girls with gasmasks, and an host rockin a fishnet shirt and a top hat. The consensus among the rider crowd was that the show fell flat. One industry heavy hitter said “Emo’s and action sports don’t mix”, and a multi time champion said she felt like she needed a shower after watching it. Besides all of this, the trip to Vegas was one for the memory book. The Hydro-Turf/Liquid Militia Hummer limo cruise sponsored by Pete Zernick was just as crazy as you would imagine. The crew didn’t make it back to South Point till the sun was up. Partying never seemed to end all weekend with the host with the most Mike Bonin leading the charge. I for one will follow that guy anywhere. Thanks HT!

Many of you modify or change the Cylinder Head of your Watercraft. Here are a few tips on doing it right, so you’ll have no issues.

F

irst, let’s talk about removing the Head. Depending on the craft, you will have to take off the Exhaust System brackets, like on a Yamaha. Once you have removed the brackets, loosen the head bolts, or nuts, from the outside in (the opposite way you torque them down). By doing this; it will help to prevent the Head from warping. Once the Head is off, clean the old Head or replace with the new. Before that, you will need to clean the surface of the Cylinder. I use a new razor blade to remove the old gasket, then I use Acetone to clean the rest of the Cylinder. When you are ready to re-install the Head, make sure it is very clean also. Install the new Head Gasket on top of the Cylinder making sure that it sits correctly with the seals. One tip to remember is that the larger holes on the gasket will always be on the opposite side of the exhaust manifold, or where the cooling water enters. Most gaskets specify the “Up” and Exhaust side. Now that you are ready to install the Head, you will need to install the bolts, or nuts, and torque them accordingly. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommended installation requirements. For instance, Sea Doo says to add anti-seize compound on the threads of the bolts. On the cap nuts, I install a little amount of lock tight. When you install the bolts/nuts, torque them to 70% of the total torque amount. On the second time around, torque them to the final number and repeat.
