Prof Del Percio has impacted my time at prospect. She has been such an amazing figure in my life and she is just so sweet and caring for us students. On the exchange it was like seeing our prof in a whole new light. We all connected more deeply and just had fun. I will miss prof so much and that she is one of only teachers that I will miss. She makes such a positive atmosphere, and she is just the best. She makes me feel comfortable and is so understanding. I want to give my prof the biggest thank you of all and I can’t believe I won’t be in her class anymore. She has made me into the learner and person I am today. Thank you for all the help and many memories Prof. I will miss you tons! <3
–Alexis Lundvick
I would like to give a thank you to Mr. Sebestyen. Mr. Sebestyen always believed in me when things were hard and was super understanding of extenuating circumstances. He taught me to cherish the memories I make in class with my friends, and not the grades themselves.
–Victoria Pawelko
I would like to thank Mr. Wolowiec for being by my side since freshman year and helping me and guiding me to the right path from the start of my high school career until the end. I remember when I was freshman I could not stop talking at all whatsoever and I would have to be told multiple times to be quiet in the classroom. I’ve talked to him about my future plans after high school, which is being a social
media content creator and being a rapper and he supports my passion and he supports it to the max. For the past 5+ years I was dealing with a serious issue in my life and it was coming to a point where I didn’t even want to live, but he was very much open-minded and willing to let me vent to him about this situation and I was so nervous to even say what it was but he made me feel safe enough to even tell about it so Mr. Wolowiec, Thank You!!!!
–Denzel Robinson
Mrs. Tomeczko has helped me so much throughout high school. She was such a wonderful CNA teacher, and she was kind enough to send out numerous letters of recommendation for me. Thank you Mrs. T!
–Giselle Salom Hamwi
Rathe because not only was he my teacher but he was also my golf coach and was also supportive and wanted to see everyone succeed.
–Kate Riesing
Mrs. Menacker, thank you for making me see that I can be a great writer if I put a lot of effort into it; after a tough junior year English class, you helped me bounce back and bring back my love for writing:)
–Emilia Toporkiewicz
Mrs. Mathews was my sophomore year chemistry teacher, and really helped me learn a lot and foster my interest in a science career pathway.
–Trenton Tennyson
Mr. Barnum. Thanks for teaching me how to be John Wooden.
–Jack Imperial
Mrs.Tomezcko because she taught me
–Angelina Agalianos
Thank you, Mr. Trenkle, for always looking out for your students and always entertaining us and teaching us with your endless personal stories.
–Natalie BouzasOne teacher that has really impacted me is Ms. Michelis. She helped me through a really tough time and was always supportive. She acted not only as a fun and friendly teacher, but as a friend. I was able to confide in her, as well as give a good rant. She is definitely someone that I will never forget. Without her, I don’t know how I would have survived freshman year, let alone biology. Thank you, Ms. Michelis, I will never forget you and what you had done for me.
–Charlotte
Mr. Levinson has been my debate coach since freshman year and I can’t thank him enough for being such an awesome coach these past four years.
–Tiziano MunozMiss Brej, thank you for showing me my love for biology and teaching me how to succeed as a student.
–Stella FitzpatrickMr. Love has significantly impacted me by helping me become a better writer. He taught me what topic sentences were and how to write essays in general. Thank you, Mr. Love.
–Metztli MedinaMr. Poisson! Thank you so much for seeing my potential in my work and for always being there for me!
–Maya DenicMr Piccoli because he reached me on
how to become more confident.
–Gianluca
VitoschiAndrews was such an amazing teacher and so down to Earth. I felt so motivated just to participate in class.
–Viktoria
AbromaitisMr. Heilman because if you’re nervous, try to do something while doing a speech. Thanks.
–Nathan MazzucchiMs. Miles. She’s the only teacher who I think actually cares about their students. She’s laid back and the class is really fun to be in.
–Tyler PappasMr. Hodges. He gave me a compliment my freshman year that really affected me. He said that he liked my writing and was impressed by it. It wasn’t a fake compliment and he wasn’t just trying to be nice, and it meant a lot.
–Piper
BartschMrs. Klaczek, thank you for everything that you have done for me. I really appreciate that you have helped me so much since when I first came to Prospect. I will miss you a lot.
–Adam BensonI would like to thank the counselors that help me go through tough times.
–Forest Chan JMO because while I didn’t see him much my last year, he has helped me be confident with everything I do.
–Emily EstacioThank you Mr. Hammerstrom for all of your help throughout the past four years!
–Kaylie PasternakWe’re writing this letter together because A) we’re running out of space in the senior issue and B) we’re a dynamic Editor-in-Chief duo (and clearly the cutest couple…). But then again, over the past four years, we’ve faced the reality of Block’s increasing baldness, an investigative road trip to Highland Park and the tragic loss of the right mirror to Ella’s 2003 Honda Civic (see Senior Wills on Page 15, Kevin); we’re not about to let a bunch of superlatives stop us now.
OK. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that we’re done (senior cliché, we know). From our roots as Entertainment Editors (Ella was Exec. Entertainment Editor (because there was no one else for the job)) to Copy Ediors to now as EICs, we’ve not only learned how to use em dashes — and semicolons — effectively; we’ve also learned how to write overly long sentences like these that trick our readers into thinking we’re Intellectuals™.
I, Ella, still remember the excitement I felt receiving my letter to be EIC in Spanish class (or in Kevin’s case, the apathetic “meh” he felt in photography), which turned into more-than-slight embarrassment when Block made us read it out loud. Looking back, that same giddy excitement has faded into a sense of pride for all we were able to accomplish. We published some good stories, sure, but teaching underclassmen font hierarchy lessons, arguing over word choice and, above all, working with each other’s best friend will be the memories that stick with us for years to come.
And maybe The Infamous Sock Puppet Video. That’s kind of hard to forget.
Our time on the Prospector has been an invaluable asset to our growth as journalists, and it is some-
thing we will both carry with us as we head to college at the University of St. Thomas (Kevin) and The George Washington University (Ella, who requested that “the” be capitalized like the newly-fledged East-Coast elitist that she is) to pursue journalism degrees. When news breaks, our experience adapting to ensure local coverage on extraordinary events — akin to the girls’ cross country team winning state and the subsequent four-page pull-out section — will guide us.
None of it would have been possible without the support we had along the way.
Thank you to our fellow heads of publications, Emma and Juliet, for always having our backs and debriefing with us in the podcast room.
Thank you to Alyssa for being a cutout queen.
Thank you to the other regular customers at Liquid Fusion who pretended not to notice our antics during our weekly designing and editing sessions.
My very first class, on my very first day ever at Prospect High School, was Introduction to Broadcasting in Room 162. It’s crazy to think back to that day, and the fact that I was calling Block, Mr. Block, I walked to school instead of driving, and I was so extremely nervous to head to my first class. However, knowing the people I met in Room 162 on that very first day would stick with me for the rest of highschool makes me smile.
Thank you to Block for giving us the freedom to push our boundaries as storytellers (and for letting Ella publish the word “rawdawg” in the Prospector — twice).
And, of course, thank you to the staff that we’re leaving behind: you’re in good hands with Mollie Kearns and PJ O’Grady as your EICs next year, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what’s in store for this publication. In the meantime, live long and Prospector (get it? like the Star Trek thing?).
Ella Mitchell and Kevin Lynch, Editors-in-ChiefI can confidently say that this program has changed my life for the better. KnightMedia taught me how to lead, work with others, produce stories that I am proud of, edit and so many more life lessons that I couldn’t be more grateful for.
From being a tiny freshman in the only Introduction to Broadcasting class that has ever existed to being a senior and the Executive Producer of KnightTV, I have loved every moment that I have had the privilege of experiencing in this program. Throughout these past four years, I’ve found my passion for editing and creating broadcasts and podcasts, and I was even lucky enough to compete at the state level three years in a row. There is no other program that gives you as much personal freedom as KnightMedia, and I am so thankful to Block for letting me share the stories that I am interested in and that excite me.
Even with all of the uncertainty that plagued our sophomore year, my fellow seniors and I have always been there for each other, and I’ll severely miss joking around with them during class or in the podcast room. I find it kind of ironic that our class was moved around the building for three years, but I started and ended my KnightMedia career in the same room; that makes
me more emotional than I would like to admit. I won’t lie, this is definitely a stressful position to have at times, but it’s all worth it in the end because I got to see strangers become my friends and grow into these amazing storytellers and even better people.
In conclusion, insert all of the sappy, cliché stuff that people usually say about graduating here. But for real, I do have one piece of advice about high school: I know everyone says this, but get involved. Join a club or audition for
a play, just find some way to be a part of something bigger than yourself because that is the best way to find your people and it makes high school just a little bit bearable.
Juliet Aquino, KTV Executive ProducerFour years on KnightMedia went faster than I could have ever imagined. The countless deadlines, stories, interviews, and projects over the years — all completely over. As much work and dedication went into this program, I am forever grateful for KnightMedia.
As the inaugural Executive Producer of KnightTV my sophomore year, I learned so much about how to be a leader. I was all of the sudden in charge of 15 people, several of whom were older than me. I carried my same position over to junior year, and then decided to switch things up senior year and became Online Editor-in-Chief. The different leadership roles I have had in KnightMedia improved my communication skills and decision-making skills. I learned how to produce stories that I took pride in and found a passion for editing. I wouldn’t change a thing about my progression through my KnightMedia career.
Throughout the four different staffs I have worked with, the people in the program are what have made the memories so special: the suspense of pastups night dinner at 9:30 pastetups, gossiping in the podcast room, filming countless episodes of Tito on the Street, and the — quite atrocious — sock puppet video, just to name a few.
Thank you, KnightMedia, for giving me life-long friends, amazing memories, and a passion for journalism.
