Working with the forces of nature fastening only around the perimeters and penetrations. Strategically located vents within the design act as pressure release valves. The stronger the wind forces, the better the system works. The system is suitable for both new roofs and roof renovation, in particular those with structural concrete or concrete slab decks.
Protan Vacuum roof works by loose laying the Protan SE membrane onto the roof with
A key component is an airtight load-bearing vapour control layer. The system introduces controlled airflow beneath the membrane through specially designed air valves. Due
to the nature of the design principle, the substrate must be airtight. In association with the Norwegian «Statsbygg» and NBI, Protan has developed and adapted the method to Nordic climatic conditions -ref. NBI Technical Approval No. 2281. In the case of substrates, which are suitable for vacuum installation, the method forms the basis for the most optimal roofing membrane system in terms of both technical and economic considerations.

Protan Vacuum is UNIQUE!
• No use of fasteners • Installation with a minimum
of drilling • Noise-less during installation • Reduced labour time • Protan Vacuum system is approved by the Norwegian Building Research Institute (NBI) and SINTEF • Specialist installation from Protan`s accredited Partner contractors
ECO friendly
The vacuum system, used in combination with a roofing membrane material that is open to diffusion, is a more secure way of avoiding this problem, and this is justifiably described as «the most ventilated roofing system».
The Protan Vacuum Installed Roofing System is fully recyclable including the insulation and membrane, with no contamination as use of solvents or adhesives are used during installation. In addition the roofing system can be thermally upgraded with relative ease as fixings are only used around the perimeter and penetrations.
Environmental friendly solution The Protan Vacuum system is individually designed to suit the intended roof minimising any waste. Consultation with Protan will ensure the optimum design and maximum savings in terms of installation time and material costs. The Protan products are manufactured, installed and used with a minimum of waste. Production waste is recycled internally at Protan. Disposal of building site waste and old products at the end of their long service life, is carried out at approved recycling- or incineration plants, alternatively at approved landfills.

A vacuum installed roofing system is based on an airtight substrate and negative pressure over the horizontal roof area which will accordingly not suck up any warm and humid indoor air into the cold part of the roof structure. The vacuum vents will help any humidity trapped in or over the subjacent watertight layer to dry out more rapidly. This is an added benefit compared to other systems. Humidity trapped in roof structures can be an “environmental bomb” if fungus and mould growth occur. Especially in Nordic climates, it is almost an impossibility to operate an all-year-round roofing business without trapping in some water and humidity.
