How to choose the best liquid flow meter suppliers
How to choose the best liquid flow meter, suppliers. When it comes to choosing the best liquid flow meter supplier, there are many options out there; in fact, too many to choose from! Flow technology has advanced rapidly over the past decade so choosing the correct flow meter for your purposes is a bewildering task. Many factors will influence flow meter selection from a particular supplier. When shopping for a liquid flow meter supplier, ask yourself the following questions:
Is the flow meter required? If all you need to know is the speed at which a gas or liquid is moving through the pipeline, then a simple liquid flow meter would suffice. In this case, you may purchase it from any flow meter supplier. A simple flow meter is not difficult to install and no external source of power is required.
What is the cost? Although it is not recommended that you purchase the cheapest flow meter on the market; it also doesn’t make sense to buy the most expensive one. A costeffective flow meter is one where the supplier is willing to offer sufficient technical back-up, traceable testing facilities, and has a proven track record and more importantly a reputation for providing superior quality products and support.
What is your flow? The supplier will want to know your flow meter’s maximum, minimum and nominal flow rates. Once known, it can be paired against another flow meter’s similar parameters to assist in purchasing the best flow meter that can meet your application demands.
What is the turndown? A flow meter turndown is a minimum and maximum flow rate that a flow meter can gauge within a specified range. A liquid flow meter that offers the broadest turndown range will confirm that it covers all flow variations.
What are the installation recommendations? When you’ve decided upon a specific liquid flow meter, ask the supplier about the manufacturer’s installation recommendations. If you have a narrow space or any obstructions within the pipeline, it will affect the liquid flow meter’s repeatability and accuracy. Ideally, the flow meter must be installed in a location where are several straight lengths of unobstructed pipelines, heading both upstream and downstream. This distance is determined by the inner diameter of the flow meter times 5 or 10.
What is your application? There are many different types of flow meters out there. For liquid flow meters, there are positive displacement, turbine, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, oscillatory and Coriolis flow meter types. The most expensive of these is the Coriolis flow meter. When choosing a liquid flow meter supplier, ensure that you purchase the remaining ancillary flow equipment from the same supplier. This will ensure all your components are compatible and that all the equipment is manufactured to the same high standards.
