PROTSAHAN INDIA FOUNDATION
Protsahan India Foundation Š
Our Story Protsahan India is a youth led organization that has traversed a path breaking journey since 2010 as a registered non-profit organization, working under two broad heads of CREATIVE EDUCATION & SKILL DEVELOPMENT. We work at the grassroot level in urban slums and on streets in India empowering marginalized children and women from lowest income backgrounds. It all started in 2010 when a 23 year old young girl quit her corporate job and started creatively educating seven little girls from slums who were being sexually/domestically abused. Gradually youngsters across the country started supporting her and Protsahan was born. Today, we have mobilized more than 12,000 young Indians living across borders for the cause that Protsahan stands for. We started with one room creative arts school in Delhi. We have touched the lives of over a thousand children directly from streets & slums who were subjected to sexual abuse and drug abuse. We have also started programs for the marginalized slum women and artisans where we train them as design micro-entrepreneurs into making quality handicrafts, sanitary napkins etc. and are in the process of starting night schools for them. We believe in dignified earning and not blind charity.
Our Supporters Our work is acknowledged by The World Bank, National Skills Development Corporation, Confederation of Indian Industries [CII], Australia-India Youth Dialog and Apeejay Surrendra Group [awarded Protsahan as one of the best 8 NGOs in the country supporting the spirit of volunteering in India, by Hon'ble Minister Shri Salman Khursheed]. PVR Nest currently carries out its Childscapes Project with Protsahan India Foundation at Vikaspuri, Delhi. Several organizations, namely, Airtel, Aircel, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, Hindustan Times, KPMG, Accenture, Ad Astra, Mudra Communications, TCS, Panasonic etc. have had corporate fundraiser exhibitions of our products and employee engagement programs with us. We have been nominated for Samsung Social Innovation Honors 2011 and NASSCOM Social Honors 2012. We have been invited at several TEDx conferences, Delhi Technological University [TEDxDTU], Jamia Millia Islamia[TEDxJMI], Delhi University, CII Young India Summits, IIMs and IITs and have very high youth involvement in all our projects. Protsahan was the official cause of Twitter sponsored 'Twestival' in 2011.

Pedagogy and Projects project educare To foster much needed empathy and creative education for street children facing sexual and drug abuse and for children within government schools, Project Educare was started in 2010. With Creative Arts and focus on ICT (Information, Communication & Technology) being our prime teaching methods, we are building an entire curricula based on 'creativity in education'. We are trying to address the challenges as outlined by the ASER report 2011. This project is supported by PVR Nest [Childscapes], Tagore International School and individual donors. PROTSAHAN's Bridge Course Framework for street children is a step to further creativity in this direction. We wish to reach out to neglected government schools in the country and are looking for organizational and corporate support for this project.

Protsahan aims to skillfully train about 10,000 women in urban slums starting Delhi in the next decade, for it believes that a happy and an empowered woman can totally change the dynamics of her family and thereby add to the happiness index of her household and country. Protsahan wishes to change the existing nomenclature of slumdogs to 'slumgods', because that is where we want our women to be. We are teaching women how to make and market sanitary napkins and basic design oriented workshops on craftsmanship and weaving so that they can earn with dignity and not be compulsively forced to enter the trafficking market.

In order to make our organization and street schools selfsustainable and instill dignity and not blind charity amongst our skilled artisans, we craft quality handcrafted products under brand Protsahan. We work with artisans and arts across states. Protsahan products have become quite popular among many donors and can be found on the shelves of many physical and online stores. We also regularly hold exhibitions in offices of highly reputed MNCs and embassies. 50% of the revenues generated under this project are used to support languishing artisans and the remaining 50 % are used to sustain our schools. We wish to achieve sustainability through creativity & design and open chains of otherwise inaccessible market channels for artisan communities across sectors.
