eC-Card App

The customisable smartphone app for free condoms and sexual health resources

The eC-Card is a first of its kind smartphone app that enables sexual health service providers to offer free condoms to young people, making access to sexual health resources easier than ever before.

l Extensive data collection

The app also gathers large volumes of valuable local data for sexual health service providers. This includes where it’s being used – which can help control supply – as well as which venues are distributing the most condoms, to help manage inventory audits. There is also the potential to compare data from the eC-Card with other statistics, such as teenage pregnancies and STIs.

The digital solution young people want

The app is easily downloadable to any smartphone from Google Play or Apple’s App Store.

Users are invited to register, enter their basic information and pick a local collection point where they can discretely collect free condoms by scanning their unique QR code.

The eC-Card app is a proven way to increase engagement with young adults.

l Vending machines

Vending machines are currently being trialled to allow service users to pick up their condoms at the push of a button.

l Fully automated

The automated system makes it easy to distribute free condoms and other services without manual administration.

Simply enter the names and locations of participating collection points.

l Highly confidential

With a discrete download and unique QR code, users can remain entirely anonymous at collection points.

l Safeguarding

The app is underpinned by a clinical safety net which can be tailored to your safeguarding needs.

For example, users who are unable to complete the registration can be redirected to direct assessment over the phone or in person.

Collecting Data

The eC-Card app makes it easy to collect and analyse valuable data.

l Manage demand

The eC-Card app tracks key variables, helping distribute condoms to young people while efficiently managing stock levels at collection points.

The app logs how many venues and how many condoms they’re distributing, allowing you to target the campaign and maintain the right level of stock.

l Compare data

Participation data can be compared with rates of STIs, teen pregnancies and other public health issues to identify trends and target prevention.

How the eC-Card app works for service users

The app can be downloaded on any smartphone from Google Play or Apple’s App Store.

After accepting the terms and conditions, new users are asked to enter their mobile number to which a one-time password is texted.

They are then asked to enter their postcode, date of birth and gender (optional).

Users can be asked to watch videos or complete quizzes, all defined by the service provider. The user can be required to complete them before continuing.

The app will ask permission to use the smartphone’s location before presenting a live map of local collection points. Users can also search locations manually.

The app integrates with the smartphone’s location to show live directions to the selected collection point.

At the collection point, the user taps the ‘Scanner’ button to use their device’s camera to scan the QR code to receive their discreet package of condoms.

The user’s allowance is updated depending on the parameters set.
