Human rights

Here are some articles on basic human rights :

What are they?

Human rights are a philosophical - political conception that describes the inalienable rights that every human being possesses.

Who has them?

Everyone, they are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status.

Article 1

Free and equal

All human beings are born free and equal and should be treated the same way.

Article 2

Freedom from discrimination

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind.

Article 3

Right to life

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 4

Freedom from slavery

No one shall be held in slavery or servitude

Article 5

Freedom from torture

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Violation of human rights

Some of the human rights we talked about throught the project are cyberbullying , hate speech and various form of discrimination.

What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying with the use of digital technologies. It can take place on social media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms and mobile phones. It is repeated behaviour, aimed at scaring, angering or shaming those who are targeted

What is Hate Speech?

All expressions that disseminate, initiate, promote or justifies radical hate, xenophobia, antisemitism or other types of hate based on bigotry. ethnocentrism, discrimination and hostility against minorities.

Role of youth in defending human rights

Human rights are needed to protect and preserve every individual's humanity, to ensure that every individual can live a life of dignity and a life that is worthy of a human being.

Why is it important?

Human rights protect our physical and moral integrity.

They are based on equality and dignity.

We as young people are the future and have the power to change it.

Our whole life depends on how we are treated and we treat others.

Online Hate Speech

How do we report it?

Most European countries have established national reporting mechanisms and support for victims of cyber bullying, hate speech and hate crime, provided by national authorities and NGOs.

What is it?

Online hate speech is a type of hate speech that takes place online.

Can we ignore it on the internet?

Hate speech is often seen in

Social media platforms offer tips to help protect users from cyber bullying and hate speech, and provide tools for reporting them to the platform administrators or moderators.

How to promote Human rights protection

We identified 3 ways to promote HR ; through Art, Activisim / Protest and No Hate Movement

In the course we used many forms of art.

2. Activism / Protests

Joining communities and fighting for injustices you see in the world and the environment around you promotes HR.

Why is it important to protest?

Many major injustices in history have changed because of people standing up for their rights and protesting like for example:

Women’s Suffrage Parade

The demonstration brought more attention to the cause of women’s suffrage. Seven years later, after many more protests and demonstrations, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote, would be ratified March 3, 1913

Berlin Wall Protests

The concrete division that had separated East and West Berlin for 28 years came down just two months after public protests occurred throughout Germany.

3. No hate speech movement

What is it?

youth campaign led by the Council of Europe Youth Department seeking to mobilise young people to combat hate speech and promote human rights online.

Where can I find an organisation near me?

The national campaign committees and support groups of the No Hate Speech Movement are responsible for the movement's national campaigns.
