3 GOODTIMES Boom Crash Opera at ski club YARRAWONGA CHRONICLE/COROWA FREE PRESS - AUG/SEPT 2012 - ISSUE 33
One of Australia's most popular bands from the 80s and 90s Boom Crash Opera will perform at the Mulwala Water Ski Club on Saturday, September 15.
T
he band grew out of the fertile post-punk scene in Melbourne and blended an artful edge with canny commercial smarts. BCO was founded on the songwriting partnership of Peter Farnan and Richard Pleasance and then fronted by the powerhouse voice of Dale Ryder, quirky keyboards of Greg O’Connor and the solid back-beat of drummer Peter Maslen. Their first single, Great Wall was a top 10 hit. This led to a heady period where they recorded in London and LA with internation-

were well known for their intense and boisterous stage show that blended high energy, serious intent and good humour. Songs like Onionskin, The Best Thing, Hands Up In The Air and Dancing In The Storm became radio
anthems that are still heard to this day and have been seized on by the advertising industry. By the early ‘90s Richard Pleasance left due to problems with his hearing and was replaced by Sydney bass player Ian Tilley.
The band took a left turn and produced the critically acclaimed experimental pop album ‘Born’. The band gradually wound down operations in the mid ‘90s reconvening sporadically for rare live appearances which makes their appearance at the ski club all the more special. Their recent appearances have been praised so highly that many critics have said they sound even better now than they did in their heyday. Don't miss the opportunity to experience these Aussie rock icons live and free at the ski club on Saturday, September 15. They have completed over a dozen international tours in the last three years, which included gigs at the world’s leading clubs and festivals and performed alongside some of the world’s leading DJs and acts. (In April’ 09, Kam Denny departed the group and is no longer involved in Vandalism.) Vandalism have enjoyed an amazing rise, to become one of Australia’s leading Electro/ Dance outfits.
