Moisture Content and Adaptation We recommend you unwrap the moulding bundles 48 hours before installation and stack indoors to allow air to circulate. This will allow the mouldings to acclimatise and adjust to the rooms moisture content and temperature for an easier application process.
Decorative Installation For use on decorative or non-structural applications adhesive fixing methods may be used. Cut ends should be sealed with a coat of either primer or PVA adhesive to minimise moisture uptake. New cement rendered walls or walls which are permanently or sporadically damp must be allowed to dry first before installing.
Storage We recommend storing Alpine Primed Mouldings in a flat location away from any extreme heat or moisture. To prevent water damage place mouldings under cover and use gluts or a pallet system to keep the boards off the ground. Never store moudings on an uncured cement block as it may take on moisture. For safer pro-longed storage periods it is best to leave the mouldings in their wrapped bundles until they are ready to be used as this will prevent markings on the boards from traffic damage and rubbing.
Cutting and Shaping Alpine Primed Mouldings are easily cut or routed to any required shape. In order to create a smooth cut to a moulding section you should ensure the use of a fine toothed hand saw or power router and ensure the profile is facing upwards whilst cutting to protect the primed surface. To avoid the boards swelling, cut edges should be primed to keep moisture out. When using a nail gun we recommend you use a protective tip (no mar tip) to eliminate any bruising that occurs with all softwood products.
Applications Alpine Primed Mouldings are produced with 2 coats of water based primer intended for interior use only. For great long lasting results avoid high moisture areas such as sauna’s, shower recesses and areas around baths. It is not recommended they be used for exterior purposes.
Fixing Installing our Primed Mouldings to an existing masonry, timber lined or metal framed wall requires nothing more than normal joinery techniques used with nails, staples or screws. Fastener spacing for 18mm and 32mm thick mouldings should not exceed 600mm, and for 12mm thick a maximum of 450mm should be used and kept at least 25mm away from any edges to avoid splitting the ends and corners. For screw fixing a pilot hole should be drilled to receive the screws with out damage. The application of a building adhesive with mechanical fixing is also recommended.
