REMOVAL OF UNWANTED FRUIT TREES IN COROWA, HOWLONG AND MULWALA Corowa Shire will be commencing a free fruit tree removal program from the 5 November 2012, which will assist with the reduction of Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) in Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala. Landowners/Residents who wish to have their fruit trees removed are urged to contact Council at the Corowa office, Howlong Resource Centre, or Mulwala Civic Centre and complete a consent form, to be included in the program. Norfolk Island experience
On the morning of October 11, 34 Lake Mulwala Combined Probus members and friends left Yarrawonga bound for Norfolk Island, the trip entailed travelling to Melbourne by coach then a flight to Sydney and overnight stay before flying out to Norfolk Island the next day.
The trip to Norfolk Island went to plan and following landing the group was met by local tour company, Pinetree Tours, and transported to accommodation at Paradise Hotel & Resort where they settled in and relaxed until 5pm when tour organisers, Linga Longa, provided welcome drinks
and nibbles, which were followed by dinner in the resort’s restaurant. Over the next six days there was a total of 16 tours, which included crisscrossing the island to see amazing scenery, meeting with wonderful locals who not only provided terrific commentary on the history of their island but exuded friendship, attending a live performance which re-enacted the mutiny on the Bounty, also a sound and light show around the original convict settlement. In addition to the set tours some members also undertook additional tours which included a tour of a reconstructed Pitcairn Settlement Vil-
lage and also a ride over the reef in a glass bottom boat; a couple of members chose to snorkel from the beach at Emily Bay, the only beach on the island and two members went on a fishing charter with each catching a shark and many other fish, the size and number of which continues to grow with each telling. Eight bowlers in the club are now claiming to be internationals following a short stint on the local green; many others can claim to be international shoppers and contributors to the growth of the local economy. On the second last night the Probus Club
went on a progressive dinner which took them into three private homes to enjoy the hospitality and food of the locals; the final night they were asked to dress as convicts and strangely enough many of the members looked quite at home in the attire. Once dressed they were treated to a wonderful night’s entertainment and meal which provided a very enjoyable end to the stay. The following day there was a debrief with wonderful tour leaders, Sheree and Alan, who are part of Linga Longa Tours, following which the group returned via Sydney and Melbourne arriving back

club thanks the activities “above and beyond” to team and in particular ensure its success and the Sheree and Alan of Linga Longa Tours who went club’s enjoyment.
