Yarrawonga-Mulwala Spring Show Friday, September 30-Saturday, October 1 September marks the beginning of the local spring show circuit where local towns celebrate their agricultural heritage combined with family entertainment, fireworks and of course showbags.

arrawonga-Mulwala Spring Show will open at noon on Friday, September 30 and will be known as Family Focused Friday. The programme includes Side Show Alley and the Main Pavilion; horse events on the main oval from midday; Brook Hazlett performs at 2pm and 4pm; Bob The Builder performs two shows – one at 3pm and one at 5pm on the main stage with a meet and greet in between; Empire FMX Motorbikes perform between 6pm and 8pm; Fireworks at 9pm; gourmet local food stalls providing food and beverages for lunch and dinner. On Saturday the gates open at 8am with the action packed program concluding with a Grand Parade at 1.30pm so footy fans will be able to head home in time

to see the first bounce of the AFL Grand Final on the same day. The Saturday programme will include the official opening at 10.45am; Empire FMX from 10am; traditional events being held throughout the day - equestrian, wood chop, pet parade, tractor pull; Miss Show Girl at 11am; Grand Parade at 1.30pm. Corowa Show Sunday, October 9

here will be plenty of attractions for all ages at this year's Corowa Show on Sunday, October 9. Mojo the Clown, a new act this year, will be roving around the showgrounds all day bringing the entertainment to the people on stilts. Gates open at 6.30am and the last performance of the day is held at 3pm. Two favourites from last year's popular show will be back in action with magicians Elio Simonette and Eva Salleh, and the fire breathing Roy Maloy Circus returning. Everyone is invited to have a go on the rides, enjoy side show alley, watch the horse events and check out the pavilions to see the art and craft, flower and cooking

exhibitions, sheep, poultry, fruit and vegetables, eggs, horticultural, dressmaking, photography exhibits and school displays.

There will also be the judging of the Miss Corowa Showgirl (aged 18-24 years as at May 1, 2012) and Miss Corowa Teenage (15 years and under 18 on day of show) competitions. Take the children along to visit the

animal nursery where the children can play, touch and cuddle with the baby animals.

A new family pass for two adults and four or more children costing $25 is available this year providing even better value. Other fees are $10 per adult, $5 concession and entry for children six to 16 is $2.

At your service Penny Hargrave Penny commenced with the Rural City of Wangaratta as Venue Manager – Performing Arts Centre in October 2009 coming from a background in hospitality management and sales and marketing. Penny grew up in Melbourne but always had links back to the north east with family connections in Yarrawonga. Penny’s strengths lie in managing projects from inception to completion and the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre is a perfect example of this. She has worked with Southern Pacific Corporation, Intercontinental Hotel Group and Brown Brothers of Milawa. In her spare time Penny works in the fitness industry and has done so since fluoro lycra and leg warmers were the rage.

Rebecca Bennell Rebecca Bennell is the venue’s resident tech-wizard, her skills and experience as an audio, lighting and operator technician have seen her work in such high profile events as the Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe Festivals, The Castlemaine State Festival, Moomba Parade and the Melbourne Grand Final Day Parade. With over 13 years of experience under her belt, Rebecca’s role at the venue encompasses all technical and staging needs across the full spectrum of events, conferences and performances.

On the theatrical side of things, Rebecca has worked in the renowned CUB Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne, was deemed regal enough for The Royal Opera House in London and even ran away with the circus (Circa and the Flying Fruit Fly, that is). Originally a Melburnian, via the University of Ballarat, Rebecca has diplomas in events and entertainment. In her spare time Rebecca enjoys sharing her vast expertise, creating lighting designs for amateur theatre companies.

Lisa Mangelsdorf Being the Marketing Coordinator for the venue, Lisa is responsible for the logistics and coordination of all events. Be it debating with Dorothy the Dinosaur or fitting in the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, Lisa’s done it. With a degree in Business and Marketing and a graduate certificate in Commerce, Lisa is well versed in liaising with tourist organizations, ensuring the marvellous amenities of the venue, especially its purpose built conference facilities are available to be enjoyed by all. Lisa is an alumnus of the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program and is currently undertaking her Masters in Business Administration. Being a woman of many skills, Lisa is not only the venue’s Marketing Coordinator and a Masters student, but also a

An enthusiastic and dedicated group of volunteers are busily working on plans for a new look to one of Chiltern’s major community and tourist events, the Ironbark Festival.

eld each year in October, the festival is an opportunity for residents and visitors to the township to celebrate its heritage, sample local produce and enjoy some good old fashioned hospitality. Organisers have planned a weekend that focuses on family and community values, with something for every age group. The Festival begins with a Youth Music Night (Friday, October 7) starting at 6.30pm and showcasing local talent. Despite the title, the Youth Music Night promises fun for both young and the not so young, with a wide range of talent from acoustic to heavy rock. Saturday is Family Fun Day (October 8), with children’s activities and demonstrations in

Martin Park from 10am. A small entry fee will give the little ones (and big ones too) access to a variety of activities, including pony rides and face painting, along with free entertainment including belly dancers, musicians and Yackandandah identity, Pete Denahy. For those who long for the eloquence of eras gone by, Saturday night holds a treat in store. Come along to the Memorial Hall and experience traditional English Country Dancing. With instruction from professional dancers, the Red Raven Dance Company will have even the most novice dancer twirling away in no time.
