The release from Hume was increased early in the week to manage airspace ahead of forecast rain that ended up being lower than anticipated across most of Hume’s

catchments apart from the higher alpine peaks. The release has since been cut back to 12,300 ML/day and the storage volume has levelled out at around 2,929 GL (97% capacity), a decrease of 34 GL over the week. Release over the coming week will most likely depend on downstream demands, which are expected to continue rising if weather condi-

tions stay dry. Operations are changing from winter-spring ‘spill mode’ to demand-driven ‘supply mode’. At Yarrawonga Weir, total diversions have increased to almost 7,000 ML/day through Mulwala Canal and Yarrawonga Main Channel and are expected to increase further in the days ahead. The pool level in Lake Mulwala has risen to

The visiting program was temporarily suspended in April, 2009 when Miki City officials informed Corowa Shire Council they were unable to continue with the program due to the pinch of the global economic crisis. However the program was thrown a lifeline in June, 2009 by the Miki International Association who offered to take over plans to host the Corowa delegation. Five students and three chaperones, including Cr Jan Doyle, enjoyed the ten-day visit and were enthusiastic at the prospect of hosting a return

delegation in 2010. Unfortunately Miki City officials cancelled the 2010 visit to Corowa due to ongoing economic difficulties. Cr Gail Law spoke in favour of reinstating the exchange program. “Cultural exchange is an extremely important thing for our young people,” she said. “The opportunity to experience another culture is invaluable and I believe we should support this program in whatever way we can.” Council resolved to contact the Miki International Association and begin planning to reinstate the sister city exchange program.

contacted Corowa Shire Council to advise Miki City was now ready to host Corowa Shire students. “They would like council to take this into consideration as they have a desire to continue the strong relationship with Corowa Shire,” Ms Kay said. “In the past, up to ten school students have been able to participate in a trip with council contributing $500 towards travel expenses and $500 towards the cost of supervising adults as well as completing the coordination for the activity,” Ms Kay said.

The exchange program is open to students from across the shire, including Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala. In 1997 Corowa Shire Council formed a sistercity relationship with Yokowa Town in Japan which later became part of Miki City. A Japanese delegation visited Corowa in 2006, followed in September 2007 by a delegation of nine students and two chaperones from Corowa visiting Japan. In 2008 the program continued with a Japanese contingent of 11 visiting Corowa in August
