Hey Bern,
George Burdan & Dale
Reunited with his Lyn.
It’s hard to express myself but I know you went through hell over the past couple of years just trying to be around for your family. It’s comforting to know you’re now reunited with the old man in heaven. I tested your patience often but you had no choice but to be loyal and loving and with your splendid example I’m sure I’m a better person. I saw how proud you were of our little town of Yarrawonga and all the people in it and your energy and enthusiasm to improve it. You welcomed my Caroline with open arms and although she had to earn her stripes you developed a very strong bond. You were a man’s woman and I treasured everyday working shoulder to shoulder with you and Dad. Rest in peace gentle woman John.

Eddy’s mother daughter team triumph Masonic Musings The owners of Eddy’s Cafe at Wunghnu pride themselves on using the finest local ingredients and hand making every pie.
This attention to detail has bought them amazing success at the recent Great Aussie Pie Competition held in Sydney last week. The mother and daughter team of Annie Shannon and Emma McNab entered five of their signature pies into
the competition and walked away with five medals – a perfect result. “It was a dream, I couldn’t believe we were so successful,” Emma said. “Our Buffalo pie won gold, the Rabbit pie won silver and the Lamb, Venison and Plain Mince pies all won bronze. We are now the only cafe in the country to have a gold winning Buffalo pie.” Emma and her mother, Annie, purchased the cafe in
Annie Shannon welcomes you to the award winning Eddy’s Cafe.
October last year and Emma said they have both worked extremely hard to bring the cafe up to the standard it is now. “Fresh local food is our main focus and we handmake our pies every morning,” she said. “We can trace where all of our meat comes from. We know the farms and we have a great butcher, Ryan and Bau Butchers in Numurkah, who prepare the meat for us. As well as the traditional
pies and pastries, we also cater to people with special diets and have a large range of gluten free foods available. Our wood fired pizzas are also very popular.” Eddy’s Cafe is located just a short drive north of Shepparton and five kilometres south of Numurkah in the cosy town of Wunghnu. It is open seven days a week. Please phone Emma or Annie on 58623358 for more information.
James Reilly was born in Cork, Ireland in 1842. He came to Australia, and in 1869 married Frances Jennings. The couple settled in Yarrawonga and had 4 sons and 4 daughters.
Unfortunately two of their sons did not reach adulthood. The first flour mill in Yarrawonga was built for James Reilly in 1877. This mill, on the bank of the Murray River, near the old police station, was sold after a few years and closed about 1907, but the building remained for many years. In 1883 Alexandra Park, known locally as ‘The Grove’ became a ‘Reserved Place’ by an Order in Council, and a Committee of Management was appointed by the Board of Land and Works. James Reilly was on that committee. He was also heavily involved in the formation of the Yarrawonga Tennis Club and in the running of the Mechanics Institute and various other town activities, and in 1935 was listed in the Chronicle as being one of the 42 men (14 of whom were Freemasons) who put Yarrawonga on the map. James Reilly was initiated in the Yarrawonga Lodge of St. David early in 1885 and soon thereafter donated a block of land to the Lodge for the building of Lodge premises. This land, in Irvine Parade, Yarrawonga, became home to the Lodge until 1926 when the existing building was erected. It was then returned to the Estate of the late James Reilly, Past Master, who was afforded a
Lodge of Sorrows on June 18th 1921. On that sad occasion the Lodge was opened at 1.40pm; the brethren then adjourned to the Railway Station to receive the coffin carrying the remains of James Reilly, proceeded to the Burramine Cemetery, laid Bro. Reilly to rest and then returned to close the Lodge at 4.30pm. William Francis Marshall was born in Kyneton, Victoria in 1880. He served in the Boer War and later set up business as a dentist in Yarrawonga. He was initiated in the Yarrawonga Lodge of St. David in 1911, and in 1913 married Daisy Agnes Reilly, daughter of James and Frances. Marshall became Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1917 with one of the Presenting Officers being his father-in-law, James Reilly, P.M. W.F. Marshall died in 1944. On Wednesday 5th October 2011, James Marshall of Burrumbuttock, NSW, through the good offices of Peter Ellis, renowned watchmaker of Rutherglen, and a member of Rutherglen Lodge, presented to the Yarrawonga Lodge of St. David the Past Masters Jewel which had been presented to his grandfather, William Marshall by James Reilly (William’s father-in-law) in 1918. The Lodge is very grateful for this kind gift and will use the jewel as a Perpetual Jewel, thus ensuring that the name of William Francis Marshall will not be forgotten during the life of the Yarrawonga Lodge of St. David.
