A couple of things have happened at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Little Athletics centre since last March. Firstly, Moira Shire now owns the Secondary College land. This means that members no longer have to volunteer to spend hours each week on the mower; however a contribution fee will need to be paid as with all other user groups of the Vic Park precinct. YMLA is still be responsible for its own line-marking and turning over the sand in the long jump pits – this will be outsourced. The committee is still waiting on confirmation of the arrangements with Moira Shire. Sue Clark, treasurer of YMLA committee said sincere thanks go to Graham and Michelle Smith (and also their daughters) who for the last couple of seasons sacrificed their entire weekends for six months in order to maintain the wonderful grass track – on top of their other roles of President, Secretary, Registrar, Recorder & Programmer. “Even though YMLA’s track is only 300m, its condition is second to none and is a credit to them,” Ms Clark said. Leah Willis has volunteered to run the ‘On Track’ programme for the first time at our centre. The programme is for U6s and U7s and is a fun way for our littlies to learn track and field skills via games and play activities. The kids will do a couple of fun activities and then put their new skills to the test in a couple of proper Little Aths events.” Ms Clark said Leah Willis is the Principal of Cobram

SQUASH & RACQUETBALL

Wednesday night Trades a well positioned drive Paul’s return of serve won Brendan a point. kept catching Tony out competition. Megan’s Heroes 3/11/245 defeated Legends 2/8/190 Adrian Smith defeated Steve Smith only just this week. Adrian loves a five setter and did it again. Steve got him frustrated, and worked his glutius maximus into overdrive. Adrian’s endurance (road runner) paid off for him in the end. Alyson Webster got off to a good start against Megan McGreggor, and then Megs came back fighting in the next two games. Megan is covering the court very well this year. Alyson is playing great short shots and this won her the match 15/14 in the last. Dan McKee threw his heart and soul into the first game, alas he had nothing left for the next 2. It wasn’t good enough for Nick Purtle who took the match in three.

Whipper Wise 3/11/248 defeated Black Cavier 2/8/232

Gavin Williams came back to squash pumped after a few weeks off. He was on fire this week and beat Josh Landell in 3. Brendan Nunn was super competitive this week against Will Sloane. Nunnie played some great depth and good boasts. He mixed his game play up well. Will is probably still feeling the pain after

It was a close match but Brendan had a little more skill and pulled the win off in 5 games. Gus McMillan lost his edge this week and Joel Thomas took full advantage of this, cleaning him up in 3 straight games. Roxi Marret went out for a win against Amy Bye. Amy has maintained her No 5 position until this week. Roxi decided it was for her and went in guns blazing. She won the match in 3 games.

Gordan’s heroes 4/12/260 defeated Aweseomes 1/6/206

Xavier Dowling defeated Matt Robilliard in 4 games. Not even a winner off the back wall could win Matt the match, Xav’s falcon in the last game proved the difference. Both players came off the court spent. Paul Leochel and Tom Purtle got match of the night. It was a crowd pleaser most of the game. The early call from the crowd that said “this one’s a five setter” was not off the mark. There were some great rallies with both players giving all they had. The last game went down to the wire with Paul getting the spoils. Anthony Hammon defeated Tony Corso only just this week. Anthony had the shots and finished the game in 4 running Tony around which forced errors.

and this helped to win him the match.

Junior Squash

Junior Squash had some very competitive squash happening this week off some highly spirited juniors. Nathan Blick and Frank Martin had a great game this week. Frank’s volley serve tested Nathan to the limit. Nathan had a great return of service and is getting very good at his forehand drives he won the match 13/11. Jessica Stenhouse has had an exceptional week. Her improved strength and endurance won the match against Brianna Laversa 8/7. Josh Soutter and Annie Martin had a very enjoyable game this week there was lots of laughter and good humour all round and enjoyable match to watch. Josh won 9/5. For any information regarding squash phone Vicki on 57432843. Monday night Social Squash 7.00pm. Juniors Tuesday Night competition 4.30 – 6.00pm. Tuesday Night Social Racquetball 7.00pm.
