MILO
Milo cricket report The warmest night of the season could not deter 51 keen Milo cricketers from participating in the second last session of the program.
For something of a novelty, the warm up activity involved the kids throwing water balloons to their partners. The aim of the game was to not break them as the distance between the pairs increased. After many throws and some very wet juniors, the Kennedy cousins, Jobe and Tom, were the winning combination. Nine of the club’s Under 16 side were kind enough to give up their time to assist the Milo cricketers. This meant
that kids were split into groups of four which allowed for the perfect opportunity to develop their skills. As the groups moved around the various stations, several regular coaches commented on the vast improvement of the children especially in their bowling techniques. At the conclusion of the evening the ever popular awards were handed out. This week the parent helpers were looking for cricketers who followed instructions and tried to improve their techniques. McDonald’s awards were won by Samuel Wood and Tarney Stephens, KFC awards were won by Jade Ralph and Jorja Chung, Wingates Sports were

won by Jaidyn Speechly and Akeema Wevers and the Subway awards were won by Tyler Norman and Will Connell. Safeway’s weekly donation of icy poles was very well received, with the kids enjoying the chance to rehydrate. A special mention must go to Dominic McInness who celebrated his sixth birthday last Thursday night. Unfortunately for Dom, he got a bit close to the follow through of one of the kid’s powerful hits and he copped a bat on his eyebrow. A quick visit to the doctor who glued the cut ensured he was still in home for his special birthday dinner. This Thursday night will be the final session Under 14

of Milo Cricket for the season. As usual the kids will start at 4.30. They will play some matches for half an hour. At approximately 5pm there will be a barbecue, where the children will receive a sausage in bread and a drink. Certificates of completion will be handed out. While the barbecue will be free of charge, raffle tickets will be on sale for the club’s raffle. So feel free to buy a few tickets. It will also be the last chance to purchase the photo recently taken by Les Garbutt of the Milo participants. Remember to keep practising.
An opening partnership of 41 made by Matt Casey 28 not out and Reid Clarke 18 set the scene early. Top score belonged to Jim Irvine with an undefeated 31 and Ben Welsh 26. Cooper Bennett 13 also made valuable contributions.
The City Colts team have a few talented batsmen that are quite capable of reeling in the required runs so the home team will be looking to the left arm bowlers in McMillan, Irvine and Bennett to get among the wickets early. A win in this match will see the under 14s placed second on the ladder with three 2 day matches remaining after the Christmas break.

UNDEr 12
The under 12s took on lettuce to any interested Archie will be on a hat Milawa, in a battle of first supporter. Brock Mc- trick next over. His crickCabe nearly claimed a et has improved vastly versus third. We batted first and came up against some good tight bowling. It was terrific to see the boys put their heads down and wait for the loose ball to hit, something the Australian team could well learn from. We finished on none for 100 odd, with the top scorer being the form player of the moment, Finn, with 16. Handy contributions came from all boys, with one highlight being a massive six from Whoopa that nearly knocked a bacon and egg McMuffin from the hand of a guy in Maccas. Bailey (Wasp) Fraunfelder showed good technique. Unfortunately James (Thunderbolt ) Jordan couldn’t beat his 24no top score of last week, so he misses a mention. When it was their turn to bat they started well, with our opening bowlers spraying it a little. Fours were flowing and it became a real test for the boys. Enter Hayden and a wicked in-swinging sandshoe crusher that demolished the stumps of the opening bat. This triggered a collapse, with two runs outs and a flurry of wickets. The boys were in full voice, Felicity was in full voice and Liz O’Dwyer celebrated by handing out bags of
team hat trick and Archie will be on a hatty when he next bowls. The fielding was terrific and the umpiring of Frank O’Dwyer faultless. Milawa finished at 7/66 and in strife. Two players who have stepped up in recent weeks are Ben Irvine and Archie. After two disappointing scores in rounds one and two, Ben had a game off to clear his head from the pressures of being captain. Since his return he has been in great form, scoring 25 undefeated runs and leading from the front. Ben’s favourite cricketer is Shane Watson, but he plays more like Matthew Hayden. As mentioned,
Whoopa Irvine.
under the watchful eye of Dapper Dasher and he has become a real weapon for the team. Another unfortunate Bombers supporter, Archie loves to fill up on roast lamb. Under 12s is all about improvement and Archie shows just how good a job the coaches are doing at this level. It was great to see so many parents at training and the game. I know the boys appreciate it. Thanks also to Frank ODwyer for organising the boys in the absence of the super-coaches. A strong finish next week should see the YarraMul. go into the break on top and undefeated. Well done.
