Good bowling. Yarrawonga Bowls Club Sunday Feb 13 – Quite an eventful week for the club. After last weekend’s deluge, there was some affect on the carpet green; however an endeavour is being made to rectify it. Some good news is that Harold Bell has now returned to Karana, hope to see him about from time to time. Pennant results were a bit mixed this week. The A1s defeated Benalla by one shot with three teams successful. The A3s made the long trip to Bright, two teams got up to win, but overall went down. The B2s defeated Milawa and the B3s went down to Swanpool, away. There are only two games left in the home and away games. Results for the week: 2-4-2 on Monday Feb 7: winners D Boothey and P Richmond. The other section was won by B Haebich and T Smith. There were 30 bowlers for Wednesday triples, it was won by N Whinray, C Smith and J Barnes, R/up

Lessons will take place in Benalla on April 30 and May 1. Keith Kat, very well known author and player, will conduct them.
The Griffith Congress will take place on March 19 and 20 and Bendigo’s Congress on May 28 and 29. Local players will be interested to hear that Rita Kahn will be in Yarrawonga on February 23 and 24. There were no Canadian Pairs last week due once again to the weather conditions. Hopefully this week will be better. A reminder of the annual tournament in March. Well done ladies. At social bowls on the same day, Ina Brumby, Barbara Tingwell and Fay Barnes were the winners. R/up were Jan Martin and Val Flanagan. It sure is great to play bowls and enjoy the game now the pressure from pennant is off everyone. Qualifying for the Australian Open at Bendigo in the Singles, Laureen Smith has won through to play at Darebin in Melbourne on Feb 13. Also at Bendigo, Laureen, Bev Everett and Denise Knight from Tugan in Queensland qualified in the Triples and will play at Darebin on Feb 15. snooker Feb 7 – Now that the pre season is over in which some members used to honeout on their skills, we now get into the nitty gritty of the real stuff. The president, as in tradition, cued off first against Powell but to his dismay could not contain him to peg back his 22 handicap. Quinn was away well against Organ who seemed a bit hesitant first up; young Russell Styles was all up and over the Jones boy and Debbie toughed it out to get home on the colours in the first round. Frames.2. McKernan had a clean run all the way against a dogged Bassett, Lang had no luck to set Cooke up with some gift pots, Powell was in the mood and Quinn was in shock going down to him. ernan to claim a win and go into the final against Debbie. This was a pretty good game as both are hard to separate at times and this time Deb got the breaks on the colours and game over. Good one Deb.

Feb 9 – Social night and new members were welcome. Results: Styles set the pace for the opening game with Hewish and that was it – exit Hewish. Jones had the better of Debbie to move on and McKernan settled in well to chase down Jackson’s 38 handicap in a long trying battle. Strange that Jackson showed good ability in the pre season hits. Bob Organ hit the tables with a fierce look in his eyes for a must win, for Cooke must have been memorised. Quinn verses Bassett for the blockbuster for the night and a lot of interest
Semi – Close mates they may be, but no hard feelings, the tight game was Organ’s over McKernan. No messing around with Styles, his quick actions with direct pots was no match for Quinn.
Final – Styles now cherry ripe, and with Bob Organ last man standing in his way, he had no fear as he set upon a victory and a top night of snooker for the young gun.
