Dartmouth Reservoir total storage increased by 32 GL over the last week to 2,243 GL (58% capacity). At Hume Reservoir, total storage increased by 134 GL to 2,725 GL (91% capacity). Release from Hume Reservoir has been decreasing dur-

Firefighters from Mulwala Fire Station have welcomed the change of name of the NSW Fire Brigades to Fire and Rescue NSW.
Last year firefighters attended more than 9800 non-fire related rescues, around one rescue every hour, every day, 365 days per year. These rescues have included helping people in car accidents, industrial, confined spaces or height rescues, building collapses and animal rescues. Mulwala’s Fire and Rescue NSW Station Commander, Vin Slattery, said the new name reflects the fact firefight-

Fire and Rescue NSW ers do far more than just fight fires. “We are the largest provider of rescue services across NSW,” Mr Slattery said. “Fire and Rescue NSW is now a multi-functional emergency service that, in collaboration with other agencies, provides rapid responses to a range of urgent situations across the state. “ Changing our name to Fire and Rescue NSW better reflects that we offer far more than just firefighting and fire prevention services. “This will also help people better understand they can call on our help in a wider range of situations.” Mulwala Fire Captain Vin Slattery.

etation. The program is being extended to another four regions across Victoria. Department of Sustainability and Environment’s Director of Ecosystem Services, Dr Kim Lowe said this BushTender is targeting parts of Central Victoria, North-East Victoria, sections of the Murray River and an area stretching between the Mallee and Wimmera regions. “Up to $5 million is available to landholders through the BushTender ducks
program. This is a great opportunity for landholders to receive payments for managing native vegetation. BushTender helps to enhance the biodiversity on private land and to provide an additional income stream for private landholders,” Dr Lowe said. “We are calling for interested landholders in the project areas to register their expression of interest by 25 February in the BushTender program, as funds are limited.”
“Protecting and enhancing native vegetation is vital to preventing a decline in the quality and extent of native vegetation across the entire landscape,” he said. “A competitive tendering process is used to assess bids offering the best biodiversity value for money. BushTender allows landholders to determine the actions that will most effectively protect and enhance biodiversity on their land.” “Whether it be plant-
ing natives to enhance remnant vegetation, fencing off vegetation for more sustainable grazing, or weed control, the landholder has the power to choose what work will best to enhance or protect the natural values of their property,” he said. To register an expression of interest, landholders should call DSE on 136 186 or visit: www. dse.vic.gov.au/nativevegetation
across the east coast of Australia have caused many problems, they have provided perfect conditions for increased waterfowl populations, including game birds, allowing a return to the full bag limit for the coming duck season.
Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has received many enquiries from hunters wishing to sit for the Waterfowl Identification Test (WIT). “Hunters must pass the WIT before they can obtain a Game Licence which is endorsed for game birds, including duck,” he said. The WIT requires people to be able to rec-
and protected species while they are in flight, preventing the accidental shooting of protected species in the field. “The WIT has been a legal requirement for many years and is a one off test, so providing the hunters pass, they will never have to sit it again,” Mr Murray said. Mr Murray said that there have been more enquiries than usual from people wanting to sit the WIT this year. “The prediction of great harvesting conditions for ducks may have
to take up the sport.” DSE will be conducting WITs at the Wodonga, Wangaratta and Toolangi offices and in Shepparton and Kyabram in association with Field and Game Australia.
