Hume Veterans Cycling Club results In less than ideal conditions Hume members fronted for their annual Individual Time Trial in Benalla.

The Emu Creek circuit is a 21.6 km square lap and this week gave riders a very cold start with very strong SW buffeting winds. The race was run on the international ‘Age Standard Time’ system which allows for both male and female riders of mixed ages to compete on the same level. Last year’s winner, Melbourne’s Liz Randell, made the long trip worthwhile again and improved on last year’s

time by almost two minutes. Together with her AST she blitzed the field by over four minutes. Bright’s Dave Webb rode himself into second place being one of only two riders to break the 40kph barrier and tagged with his age bonus pipped visiting rider Rene Mol. Rene’s age bonus put him in front of Cobram legend Ray Jarratt despite finishing two minutes slower. The system proved itself again as it brought riders closer together for fairness. Ride of the Day undoubtedly had to go the Allan Thrum
