Talent to be tested this weekend Potential stars from around the north east are gathering for the popular annual Mulwala Water Ski Club’s Got Talent competition.

F

irst prize is a cool $2,000 and it’s not too late to enter. If you can sing, dance, tell a good joke or have some uncanny ability to entertain that only comes out at family gatherings, put your

name down for the Ski Club’s Got Talent now and you could be well on the way to stardom. One round of heats will be held on Sunday, July 22 and the final will take place on Sunday, July 29. The local judges have a wealth of experience and years of performing under their belts. Fiona Blick, journalist at the Yarrawonga Chronicle, is a classically trained musician who has toured extensively with orchestras and ensembles and has been the

musical director for the Allegro Theatre Company’s hit shows The Twisted Mikado and Return to the Forbidden Planet. Daine Runnalls is a talented musician who teaches at the Yarrawonga College P-12 and performs gigs all over the local region. He has starred in several of the Allegro Theatre Company’s productions and earned himself a nomination for Best New Talent in the 2010 North East Zonta Awards. Leanne Mickelson is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and teacher who

has widespread experience in the performing arts and has adjudicated in dancing festivals regionally and in Melbourne. She was the choreographer for Allegro Theatre Company’s production Return to the Forbidden Planet.

The competition will commence at 1pm on both Sundays and for further information jump on-line at www.mulwalawaterski.com.au to download your entry form or contact the club straight away on (03) 5744 1888.

Pommie Night Out The Pommie Night Out show is appearing at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on Saturday 28th July.

I

t is a unique show featuring lots of audience participation, and costume changes. Since the show started touring it has travelled more than two million kilometres, visiting places as far away as Perth, Broken Hill, Mt Isa, UK and Malaysia. It has had two successful tours of New Zealand, and is already

booked for return tours in 2013, as well as further dates in UK and Europe. The show was recently filmed for a new television show due to be screened later this year, and has won the award for ‘Best Gold Coast Entertainment Show’. The show features lots of singa-long songs like “When you’re smiling”, “You are my Sunshine”, “Hello Hello”, “Oh you beautiful doll”, interspersed with great British comedy, and will bring back memories for all of the audience. Comedy is provided by “Bubble”,

who is already making a name for herself in the comedy world. Standing at just 4ft 8ins (142cms), what “Bubble” lacks in height, she more than makes up for with her bubbling personality and wicked sense of humour. “Bubble” has appeared all over the world, and even worked with the legendary Benny Hill. She has just been voted “Best Gold Coast Entertainer”. Accompanying Bubble is David Lee-Jay who has been in entertainment for many years and has worked with many of the top British

groups including The Fortunes and The Applejacks. He has worked all over the world on cruise liners, and appeared in many pantomimes in England. Throughout the show many different characters make appearances, including The Pearly King and Queen, and the Boys from Dad’s Army. So, if you fancy a trip down memory lane, a good ole’ knees up and a chance to laugh till you drop, make a date for “Pommie Night Out” at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on Saturday 28th July.

The show starts at 8.00pm and costs $15 per ticket including

cheese and antipasto platters per table plus a complimentary glass of Yellowtail wine. Tickets are available from the venue on ph: 5744 1911. For further details visit www.yarra-

A recipe for success There was little choice for Navish and Gurpreet Singh other than open an Indian Chimney Restaurant in Yarrawonga. The instant success of his first restaurant which opened in Albury in 2010 quickly encouraged Navish and Gurpreet to open a second Indian Chimney across the river in Wodonga the following year. A year later it’s Yarrawonga’s turn to be blessed with this gastronomic wonder that is sweeping the region.

An inspired choice A third restaurant in three years is strong evidence that the Navish and Gurpreet recipe for success is working well and satisfying the demands of diners is the Indian Chimney’s number one priority. “We are so excited to be opening here in Yarrawonga,” Navish said. “Ever since we opened in Albury we have had so many people come from the Yarrawonga and Corowa area to dine with us and they were always saying we should open another restaurant a bit closer to them, so here we are. “This a major tourism area and we think there is great potential here.” Navish believes the focus of his chefs to cook authentic traditional cuisine, the same as you would find in India, has put Indian Chimney in a league of its own.
