Gorillas (10) drew Monkeys (10). This was a very fast and skilled game, ending in a draw. Harry Welch and Will Wheaton combined very well with the rest of their team helping them on both ends of the court. It was a great team effort by the Monkeys with all team members looking for each other and passing well. Harry Nagle, Ben Woodburn
and Abbey Chapman scored well. Panthers (22) def Jaguars (14). Quick court play and plenty of skill was shown by both teams. All players had a shot at goal and the girls certainly showed that they could get in there and play just as well as the boys. This was a fairly even game, despite the score at the end. Well done both teams. Squirrels (16) def Possums (14). This was the
first game of the season for both sides with many new players learning the rules and skills of bouncing, rebounding and shooting. It took lots of concentration from both sides, but both teams will certainly improve as they become more proficient. The scores were even with 2 minutes to go, with the Squirrels coming out on top at the final siren.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and Parks Victoria have reminded Victorians that applications to become seasonal project firefighters close in just over a week. “We want people all over the state to apply to be a project firefighter as soon as possible because applications close on September 4,” DSE General Manager Regional Services Tony Edgar said. “More than 600 firefighters will be employed over the warmer months and we want everyone interested in these jobs to get their applications in. The new recruits will be stationed at 81 DSE and Parks Victoria locations across the state, stretching from Hattah in the far north-west to Wilsons Promontory in Victoria’s south-east.” Mr Edgar said firefighters will be at the frontline of protecting Victorians from bushfires in the state’s parks and forests.
The first intake of project firefighters will commence in October, to help carry out planned burn operations and other vital preparation work ahead of the fire season. A range of seasonal positions are on offer, including roles as firefighters, machine operators, hover exit crew and rappel crew members. “Being a project firefighter is an exciting and rewarding job,” he said. “We’re looking for people who are fit and healthy; hold a current driver’s licence and more than anything are keen to help protect communities from bushfire.” Successful recruits will undertake firefighting training conducted by experienced DSE and Parks Victoria fire personnel. Applications to fill these positions are open. Apply online at www. dse.vic.gov.au/firejobs.
