alhalla Wines is a passionate boutique wine producer making handcrafted, premium, individual wines. Valhalla Wines has been established with environmental sustainability as a core value of the business which encompasses natural farming methods in the vineyard, rainwater harvesting, a worm farm waste system, composting and use of recycled packaging. The philosophy of environmental

sustainability is driven by wine maker Anton Therkildsen’s personal beliefs as well as observations of the vineyard and whole property. Anton has developed an understanding that soil is not merely a substrate to hold the plant up and pour nutrients into. “Soil is a living microcosm incorporating the plant structures, nutrients, living microbes and organic humus that occur in all of nature. At Valhalla we recognise that our children will be accepting the decisions we make today,” Anton said. The annual Green Living Fair is a free community event that showcases ways of living sustainably – on the land, in the home and with food. With 2010 being the International Year of Biodiversity,

Environmental sustainability is the focus at the Green Living Fair. the fair will feature biodiversity on all levels. There will be over 20 exhibitors including Landcare, local organic producers, alternative building methods, green energies and products plus an information booth and free children’s activities. This year the information sessions will be expanded and act as a forum for questions and answers

with the opportunity to learn what can be done to make a difference locally. Local schools will present the Green Living Art Exhibition and also be involved in a series of community art workshops. With great food, entertainment and free children’s activities, it promises to be a fun and informative day for the whole family.

hannon will be performing at the Mulwala Ski Club on September 4 as part of his ‘back to basics’ national tour, in what promises to be an intimate, acoustic recital that showcases Noll’s talents as a musician and performer. Australia does love this boy from the bush. Shannon has now released "No Turning Back: The Story So Far." It's a sophisticated compilation of ten big hits and five new songs lead by Summertime. "It's not just all the songs that everyone's heard. There's something new and a couple of them are really close to my heart," Shannon said. “The start of the tour has been fantastic; I have had a great reception from audiences with the new style of show. It is a very laid back experience, I get more of a chance to interact with the audience. It is just me and the music. Personally, it has been really enjoyable to get back to my musical roots. I have added some songs that people might not have heard before, and it is a good opportunity to explore different songs. Entering Australian

GOODTIMES 6 By Jared Loughnan Yarrawonga is now blessed with the delight of traditional Indian cuisine.

L

ocated in the former Four Winds Restaurant alongside Pistol’s Sports Tavern experienced restaurateur Shaik Farok and his team have totally cleaned, revamped and transformed this beautiful homestead into a new era of dining. Farok’s Yarrawonga restaurant will be an addition to his already successful Indian Tandoori Restaurants that he and his partner Man raj have opened in the north east region including, Albury in 1998, Wangaratta in 2006 and Wodonga in 2007. Their award winning restaurants boast a variety of superb authentic cuisine inspired by ancient India complemented by a great attention to service and detail. I recently visited Farok’s Wangaratta restaurant and was extremely impressed with the standard. Their superb Indian cuisine boasted flavours I cannot describe. The service was second to none but, more importantly, the food was of a standard to be proud of, as every dish that came out had its own superior flavour. The restaurant boasted a warm and friendly environment that really made dining there more of an experience than just a normal night out.

By talking to Farok you quickly learn that he has a real affection for the region and a passion for his restaurants. Farok originally came to the area to finish his Masters in Information Technology in Albury and returned working as an Infrastructure Director at North East Health. “I immediately fell in love with the area and something kept drawing me back,” Farok said. It wasn’t long before he opened his restaurant in Wangaratta and was working between the two jobs, but now enjoys working full time on his restaurants. Farok said he takes real pride in delivering fine Indian cuisine in his dishes. “Our cuisine dates back thousands years and we aim to keep this intact. We also concentrate on delivering fine customer service offering full value for our diners,” Farok said. Farok also introduced me to his new chef Rajendra Kumar who has now moved to the area to be Yarrawonga’s main chef. Rajendra originally come out from New Delhi but has more recently been working in an Indian Restaurant in Miami. Rajendra has a background of delivering award winning dishes

pr ep

and has an award winning smile to match. With Farok as the main Tandoori Chef and Regendra as the Curry Chef the pair will no doubt deliver the delights of India's cuisine to the Yarrawonga region. Farok has also imported a special clay oven from India to deliver true tandoori style. The traditional tandoor oven is renowned for the mysterious and unique flavour it gives to meat and breads. “We sincerely hope people will enjoy the presentation of our Indian Tandoori Restaurant,” Farok said “Our chefs have worked in reputable hotels and restaurants in their country of origin, ensuring you have only the best original recipes to enjoy. “We want to provide people with a warm welcome and a touch of India the minute they walk into the restaurant. We want to provide not just a nice meal but a cultural experience.” “My family and dedicated team look forward in bringing our successful restaurant experience to the Yarrawonga region. “We are committed to establishing ourselves in the town and will provide our customers with new ideas and a point of difference in dining.”
