repaved, and there seem to be some flaws in the repaving in a section heading east toward Oak Ridge. Between the Forsyth County line and Claxton Road,

the newly repaved road is very bumpy. Is NCDOT aware of this and if so, are

there plans to smooth this section out?

“The project has not been finalized and accepted yet,” NCDOT district engineer Bobby Norris wrote in an email response to the Northwest Observer on Aug. 16. “They (the bumps) will be evaluated and a decision will be made as to whether the normal traffic and heat will smooth them out or other remedial work will have to be performed.”

I read recently that the town of Oak Ridge is having trouble finding water on the site for Heritage Farm Park.

Without water, they can’t supply bathrooms and irrigate athletic fields.

What’s the latest?

We contacted Oak Ridge Town Manager Bill Bruce for an update on efforts to find water. It’s a critical step in the development of the approximately 60-acre park behind Town Hall on Linville Road.

After an unsuccessful search for a sufficient supply of water, the contractor recently drilled a new well and found a sustainable flow of 32 gallons per minute, Bruce said. That’s adequate to irrigate fields.

The process required a 24-hour drawdown test by Guilford County environmental health regulators to determine the adequacy of the supply.

“We also monitored several neighboring wells and found that drawing from the new well had no effect on water levels in nearby wells,” Bruce said. “We are hopeful that we are now in a position to move forward.”
