The ladies said their British boat captain asked to keep their copy of the Northwest Observer so he could read about their hometown!

Over the summer, Rob and Jeni Erikson of Summerfi eld visited their 8-year-old grandson, Aidan Barile, in North Pole, Alaska. While spending the afternoon at Lake Chena, the Eriksons enjoyed sharing their hometown paper with Aidan and his best bud, Freki, a 1.5-year-old Norwegian elkhound. Beth Shull (L) of Oak Ridge and her friend of over 45 years, Marie, went on a 12-day pilgrimage this summer to Germany, Austria, Czechia and Hungary. Originally booked in 2018 for 2020, but postponed due to the pandemic, on this long overdue travel, the two friends enjoyed a stop in St. Gilgen in Salzburg, Austria. There, they caught up on the local news and saw where part of the movie “The Sound of Music” was fi lmed. “The hills are alive with the sound of music.
