Phillip Seahorn Melissa Barker MMGT 211-3022: Principles of Marketing April 14, 2018 Simulation: Ice Cream Magnate In the initial slide show, the simulation offered a number of ways in which marketing tips, tricks, and techniques that could be applied to increase sales. Based on the readings form the case study of “Red Bull”, I found it interesting that the “niche” formula for marketing Red Bull was even considered. They utilized (according to our readings) Collegiate Brand Managers to market their product. Now, ice cream is a tremendously niched market, and I can see how these tactics of niche marketing could also be applied to selling ice cream. That niche format, incorporating specific demographics, has worked successfully for the American ice cream brand “Ben and Jerry’s, tremendous marketing and branding their ice cream at the same time. In utilizing the text on reaching target segments, we can apply this to selling ice cream as well. However, a generalization of what the target market for ice cream would be in America, for instance, would rely heavily on traditional print and television and radio mediums as marketing tools for selling ice cream

In this, for some strange reason, America has cornered the global ice cream market with niche marketing and brands that have been created specifically for those markets. Mass marketing can and has been applied to selling ice cream in America and globally. Again, as stated in the last paragraph, America seems to have mastered the mass marketing of ice cream, and seems to continue doing so in 2018, despite China now claiming the biggest market globally in 2018. One sterling example of a mix of niche marketing and mass marketing is my home town’s own ‘Ted Drewe’s Frozen Custard” out of St. Louis, Mo. Voted the best ice cream joint in the entire world (bragging rights!!!!) I found this a very good example of what we have covered in our readings this week.
