Imaginemos...

There was a time when the flaneur was a symbol of Rio de Janeiro city: the man who roamed the city from bar to bar, corner to corner, watching all the behavior of the city. From this period emerged marvelous chronicles about “carioca´s” way of life through the hands of João do Rio, Benjamin Costallat and Luiz Edmundo. The lens Osmar Shineidr seems to follow the work of men like these. Free of clichés that would lead him to focus on the natural beauty that is hardly surprising, or the poverty that disturbs us, this photographer shows the people of this city in all its diversity. There´s baianas and beaches? Certainly. But there’s also dancers and actors who plays at the streets there. Circus. And a variety of types that make up the scenes of life in Rio, from the common life to the far more unusual. Knowing your job is to observe the city beyond the common sense. And a delightful exercise to continue in our imagination: the scenes captured. What will we find after that smile? Imagine ...

It is Mystery -- the mystery any one man or woman can feel but not understand as the meaning of any event -- or accident -- in any life on earth ... [that] I want to realize in the theatre. The solution, if there ever be any, will probably have to be produced in a test tube and turn out to be discouragingly undramatic. EUGENE O’NEILL

Realism is something we practice when we aren't feeling very well. When we don't feel up to the extra effort. Robert Edmund Jones
