Planning a wedding can be one of the most stressful events in your life. But it doesn’t need to be! I started GonnaGetWed.com and the GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcases to help relieve stress from Brides! Attending a bridal show and creating a profile on GonnaGetWed.com can help every bride save time, meet with wedding industry experts, get ideas, and see the latest wedding trends and fashions. These tips will help you get the most out of the GonnaGetWed Bridal Show.

Pre-register for the show

Save time by registering before the show. Our lines are long, and pre-registration only takes a few minutes and will save you time in the check-in line. You still need to check into the show to get door prize registrations.

Bring your friends & family

Bringing your friends and family to the bridal show will help them feel involved and also give you a head-start on gathering help for your wedding preparations. Many brides bring their maids-of-honor and their bridesmaids to help them with decisions. Many others will bring their mothers or soon to be mothers-in-law especially since they may be the ones paying for it all. Finally, don’t forget the GROOM! He can register for prizes, too, and should get involved early in the planning.

Bring Contact Return Labels

Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths

throughout the show. You will save a ton of time and energy by bringing return labels. We recommend including the following info: your name, address, phone number, wedding date, wedding city and email address.

Take Notes

Or bring your tablet. Just be sure to take notes of vendors you talked to and try to rate them or keep some sort of record of who you liked best. You can also keep notes on ideas, thoughts, and dates of appointments made that day with vendors.

Take Pictures

Many exhibitors have neat displays and you may get some new ideas. Be sure to get permission from the exhibitor before you take photos. It is also fun to get photos of you and your friends and family attending the show for your wedding album.

Set A Budget

Setting your wedding budget and discussing who will be covering the different costs will help you focus on what to look for at the show. Come prepared with lists of questions to help determine if a vendor is right for you and also fits into your budget.

Bring your checkbook

Many wedding vendors will offer a special discount during the show. Bridal shows draw in hundreds of brides and many with the same wedding date. Some dates fill up quickly so being able

to place a deposit with a vendor you find that you want to book will allow you to secure those professionals.

Prepare

Bring your questions for the different industry professionals. Try to review the vendors ahead of time that will be at the show. This will allow you to seek out and spend time talking to those you are really interested in.

Register for prizes

The GonnaGetWed Bridal shows are known for offering the best prizes! These are given away throughout the day with bigger grand prize drawings at the end. Every Bride and Every Groom can register so attend the show together to double your chances.

Wear Comfy Shoes

The bridal show is generally 4 hours long so making sure your feet don’t hurt so you can focus on the tasks at hand is important. So wear comfy shoes!

Stay All Day

Come early and leave late. This will allow you to visit all the vendors and find everything you need. After all, if you tried to go and visit each of the exhibitor’s locations it would take weeks! So take advantage of having them all in one place for the day. ~ Kari Black, Founder GonnaGetWed.com

Gray & Pink ~ Navy & Natural

Whether you are the Traditional, Modern, Elegant or Vintage bride, your wedding colors really set the theme to your wedding. 2014 trends in wedding colors include more than chair covers – even wedding dresses are stepping out of the standard white or ivory and more pink and gray dresses are being seen. Shades of pink will always remain popular; feminine and gentle, everyone has a favorite hue of pink.

Gray is a unique shade which can both channel modern and vintage wedding styles. Popular in all design in 2014, gray is a wedding color to be considered!

6

Natural and neutral color palettes are also popular for 2014

Creating a sharp contrast between softer neutrals, pinks and grays, two shades of blue are also a popular color trend for 2014: Navy Blue and Aqua Blue. These two colors can be accented with either lighter contributing hues or stronger contrasting hues. Check your season and your venue. The right color palette should be something you love today (and in 10 years).

Vintage Details

Delicate lace embellishments and gentle overlays accent even the most modern wedding dress styles. A gentle vintage detail – a beaded belt or headpiece – can help ground a more modern wedding dress. At least one element between the two pieces needs to be consistent. Adding a piece of jewelry from your Grandmother’s collection is also a great way to incorporate some vintage details into your wedding day ensemble and works as a wonderful “Something borrowed” tribute to your Grandmother.

Braided Hair

Braided Hair is a whimsical and elegant way to create your wedding day do! Whether you leave it loose and distressed for a tousled vintage look or sleek and smooth for a modern feel, braids are an elegant way to create your up-do. Your dress style should really dictate your hair style. Don’t forget to tell your stylist or bring a photo of your dress to the consultation appointment so they can make suggestions which will match and accent your wedding dress style.

Reception Accents – Lighting

Every wedding has lights – but not every wedding has lighting. Traditional or Modern – Vintage or Elegant – beautiful and creative lighting at a reception creates the mood and ambiance for the whole evening. Some popular options are dramatic colored up lighting accented on drapery and linens. Mason jars turned into hanging lanterns or sitting on tables with floating candle are also popular lighting trends. Guests seldom notice great lighting – great lighting accentuates every other detail and creates a picturesque memory for you and your guests. Everyone notices bad lighting. The great pictures you found on Pinterest may be hard to recreate in reality. Before jumping all-in to the dramatic lighting scheme, check

with professionals, photographers, and the reception venue. There may have been brides who tried the same technique. Seeing real photos can give you a better idea if it is something you want to pursue.

2014 trends feautre gentle feminine, elegance with pinks, lace and vintage details. Beautiful and creative lighting at a reception creates the mood and ambiance for the whole evening.

The Trouble with Trends

Some trends are timeless. Others… have a shorter shelf life. Remember, you will have the pictures from your wedding day for the rest of your life. Before jumping into a pink wedding dress with a feather headpiece and orange lipstick, take a look at wedding pictures from the 80’s. That may change your mind about following the latest “trends.” - Emily Sorenson, GonnaGetWEd.com

Mostly A: Traditional You are the Traditional Bride. You desire for a very classic and beautiful wedding. You have seen the pictures of wedding dresses from the 80’s and you are NOT having it! These pictures will last a life time and you are going to look good – not trendy. Traditional weddings are “traditional” for a reason! “Here comes the Bride” is a beautiful song, which will make your Dad cry. The traditional VOWs your grandparents said have seen them through 60 years of marriage. Traditional weddings focus on the celebration of love, family and you as a couple. You need ALL of those to make a marriage work. Mostly B: Modern! You see the dresses on the New York runway and THAT is what you want. If someone suggests tulle to you – you are likely to get some matches and burn that skirt to the ground! That may be over doing it, but you are looking for something different. The Modern Bride is all about new and unique style. If you saw it already at someone else’s, wedding…you have scoped out the room to see if any of those guests could possibly be at yours too because someone saying “Oh, she did the same thing Becky did…” will ruin your big day (unless of course you did it better than Becky!). Weddings have been around for a long time and you desire to have something be different about yours. That's great! Represent the personality of you and your groom. Show what makes you unique as a couple.

Mostly C: Vintage! The Vintage Bride has a unique flare but with a greater emphasis on repurposing rather than redefining. You are not looking to brand yourself as something new – you are creative and unique and love the style from the 1920’s rather than the 21st Century. Your style has a gentle feminine elegance, focusing on dresses with lace or beaded detailing. Floor length or tea length, your vintage style is undeniable and will be present throughout your wedding, because it is your wedding and that is who you are, naturally. Mostly D: Elegant! The Elegant Bride embraces all the aspects of Vintage, Modern and Traditional – combined, in her unique way, the Elegant Bride turns her wedding into an event! Whether you get married during the peak of summer of the height of winter, your wedding will embrace all the unique and beautiful details for the season. Every detail is planned, down to the napkins, to match the color scheme and theme. Elegant brides don’t need to break the bank on their wedding, but they are the very organized and conscious of everything fitting together. Whatever bride you are, your wedding will be a wonderful, unique and beautiful celebration of the love you and your groom share. Congratulations! Enjoy it, every bit of it! Follow the M, T, E and V brides through the VOW to find tips for your unique Bride Style!

Wedding Tips! Things to have in mind as the big day approaches! ❤ Pick your date wisely

❤ Don’t Make Guests Wait:

be traveling to your wedding. Your gift registry should have a variety of price points. Sure, your co-workers may team up to buy you something special. But your retired aunt and uncle who still have your cousin living in their basement may need to buy you something a little less expensive – everyone needs new towels!

Choosing a day other than Saturday may be less expensive, but it may also require for your guests and wedding party to take more time off of work. Depending on the time of year, that may make it challenging for out-of-town guests to attend. Choose your date wisely! You shouldn't have more than 2 hours between ceremony and reception. Plan something fun like a cocktail hour, a tour of downtown, or a wedding scavenger hunt for guests before the reception.

❤ To drink or not to drink?

❤ Think the menu through

Provide alternatives for people who have allergies, dietary restrictions, or vegan/vegetarians. Having a kids menu is also a good idea!

❤ Anticipate the needs of your guests

❤ Think about the weather - and plan

accordingly!

You can look through the last 50 years of the farmers’ almanac tracking weather trends, but you never know what the weather will be like on your wedding day. If you are getting married outside, it could be hot, it could be cold, it could rain. Face it – it could snow! Make sure you have a back-up plan and that your wedding theme corresponds.

❤ Keep your guests budgets in mind

10

when registering.

You and your groom are starting out and you probably need everything to furnish this new life. But your registry should have more than 1000 thread Egyptian Cotton Sheets, Crystal glassware, and big screen TVs. Most likely, your friends and family have lives of their own they have to pay for and many of them may

Whether you like to party or not, having a cash bar isn’t very inviting to your guest. Having everyone getting tanked at an open bar isn’t great either. Try to find an option that will work, like offering a few drink tickets to people or offering free beer and wine. There is a way to find the happy medium between no drinks and free drinks. Leave some extra parking spaces toward the front both at the ceremony and the reception for elderly guests. Make sure you have some extra comfortable chairs for people to sit on if need be.

❤ Greet each guest personally

The trend has been to greet everyone at the wedding either in a receiving line at the back of the ceremony location or to greet them as they are exiting their seats. Whichever way you choose to greet your guest, make sure you DO IT. They traveled here, they bought you a gift, they came for your special day – Say “Hello” & “Thank you”!

❤ Feed the Photographer/DJ/Band etc.

They work hard. Feed them. Enough said.

❤ It is your day. Enjoy it and don't forget to have fun!

ONLINE PLANNING | MAKING A MARRIAGE CREATING THE CONCEPT

Wedding Planning T

and the internet

he modern bride can have wedding planning at her finger tips! Every detail of your wedding can travel with you everywhere you go – online! There are a lot of online resources available to help organize your thoughts, attach pictures, write documents, create checklists and stay on top of ALL of the wedding details. Some sites are better than others! GonnaGetWed.com – Okay, we are a bit partial, but we have created GonnaGetWed.com for this exact purpose! There are a lot of details to keep track of and there are a lot of national websites you can use to organize. But the national websites don’t connect you with the local vendors you will need to work with. GonnaGetWed.com is your one-stop for wedding planning and connecting with the photographers, reception sites, florist and more right next door.

12

Pinterest – Who doesn’t love Pinterest?! Pinterest is a wonderful resource to see new trends, unique ideas, and traditional treasures. One of the best features of Pinterest is that you can create your own boards and pin different images to that board, or category. You can create a board called Flowers and as you search for flower arrangements online, you can pin your favorite pictures to that board. The challenge of Pinterest is that many times, the DIY projects you think will save you money don’t always work out the way you want. They either end up being more expensive or are a lot harder and don’t turn out as well. Trello – Trello is a free online collaboration site that has nothing to do with weddings. But it is all about planning and collaborating with other people! It is free, although you can upgrade to paid versions, if you need.

You can create checklists, assign tasks, move items from “To-Do”, to “Doing”, to “Done.” For tasks that require Due Dates, you can export the calendar and import them into your email calendar to help stay on task! Planning a wedding is a big task – a really big task! Using a wedding planner (like the VOW) is a great way to stay on track. The internet can help you search for and find great ideas, but those “great ideas” may not be right for you or your budget. Connecting with local talent who can help you is going to be the best thing. Recent Sioux Falls bride Kristin Cooke’s advice for a great wedding is “having competent people helping you out.” Connect with local providers – connect with businesses you can rely on – that is truly the key to a seamless wedding day. o one enters marriage with plans to be miserable. Nevertheless, Dr. Gary Chapman, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The 5 Love Languages®, has spent 40 years counseling couples whose dreams of a happy life together have been shattered by the realities of marriage. Most couples fail to anticipate the dirty dishes, unpaid bills, conflicting work schedules, crying babies, contentious arguments, and stifled communication. After months of counseling and a lot of hard work, Chapman says many of these couples have gone on to have good marriages, but many of their struggles could have been avoided had the couple taken time to prepare more thoroughly for marriage. “Many couples give far more attention to making plans for the wedding than making plans for marriage. The wedding festivities last only a few hours, while the marriage, we hope, will last a lifetime.” –Dr. Gary Chapman In Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married, Gary will share with you the practical wisdom and relational insights he wishes someone would have told him before he said, “I do.” Among the twelve things you should know: • That being in love is not enough to make a successful marriage • That mutual sexual fulfillment is not automatic • That toilets are not self-cleaning • How to solve disagreements without arguing Whether single or dating, this book can be your relationship blueprint and help you decide if and when to tie the knot. Creating the concept

how to pick the perfect theme for your wedding Research. P

Take advantage of all types of online planning tools to help you figure out the tone for your wedding. Start pulling ideas from Pinterest, online wedding magazines, and blogs. This is a great way to get the ball rolling. By far it is the easiest way to find tons of ideas on how to personalize your wedding from real brides from all over the country. Also, don’t be afraid to find other ideas elsewhere besides the Internet. Check out local venues, garden centers, and wedding shows to find ideas. Collecting these ideas is the first step in creating a theme that is truly personal to you.

Inspiration P

Start gathering certain items that are near and dear to you. They can be anything! Maybe it’s a handbag with intricate beading or a photo of an exotic location; just make sure they are things you love. Once you have selected a few items start figuring out what exactly it is you love about those items. Are they all similar colors? Do they all have a bold pattern? Maybe they are all full of embellishments and intricate details. Once you have figured out the common factors you can use that as a starting point for creating your concept. This will help set the tone for your wedding whether it be bold, bright, soft, or modern. Also don’t be afraid to think outside the box. If you find an item you love that is not traditionally used in wedding décor think of ideas on how you could incorporate it into your day. That idea could become the statement piece of your wedding and create a truly original concept.

Color P

What colors are you drawn to on an everyday basis? A great starting point is taking a look at the colors you surround yourself with. Take a look at your closet and your home décor. Once you have found a color you like pick a hue that compliments it as an accent color. This can be anything from the opposite color on the color wheel to a darker or lighter shade of the original hue you selected. This pallet will then become the color scheme you use throughout your wedding. Make sure to consider your color selections in the season you will be getting married. Also consider colors that may compliment blooms or foliage that are in season for your wedding.

Edit P

Once you have found all of these elements its time to solidify your theme. Come up with a word or phrase to describe your wedding from all of the items you have selected. Keep it short and sweet. This will help you make sure you stick to your original concept when selecting certain items for the big day.

Create P

Now that you have your color pallet and a concept it’s time to put it all together into a visual story of what you visualize for your day. Gather all your magazine clippings, photos, color swatches, and other items and create a small storyboard or scrapbook. Creating this will allow you to show a visual representation of what your vision is to family, friends, and most important of all your vendors. Make sure to make it small enough that it can easily be taken with you when selecting items such as bridesmaid dresses and your cake for the big day. The most important thing to remember through this process is no idea is too corky or crazy. Make sure it is what you want and that it is a true reflection of you and your groom as a couple. The more personal you make it, the more special the day becomes. If you remember those few things you will have created a wedding your guests will never forget.

ongratulations on your engagement and the intent to spend your life together… but what about the Ceremony?

“Then the Lord God said, ‘it is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.’” Genesis 2:18 (NASB)

her white dress, and the image of the groom, lovingly at her side, provides a marvelous symbol of Christ and the Church. One day Christ will…

Giving attention to the ceremony is proper for you as you marriage is more than a mere contract. The early Christians understood something that is often forgotten today – that marriage is a supernatural union. They knew it was the creation of a profound unity of two individual people. It is the spiritual union which gives an added depth to marriage and causes the two in Christ to become one. This depth of relationship makes a church wedding ceremony very appropriate.

Thus, God created marriage. Christ Himself honored marriage by performing His first public miracle at the marriage in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-11). God celebrates believers’ marriages and so should His people.

“present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle.” Ephesians 5:7 (NASB)

We also should realize that marriage was instituted by God in the original creational order. According to Genesis 2, God declared all creation good except for one aspect.

Putting thought into your ceremony is so important because it publicly displays the deepest of commitments. It gives the couple an opportunity to declare before family and friends their lifelong devotion, and thus invite the support and prayers of their family and friends. It also gives the opportunity to publicly approve and support the marriage.

This unique symbolism in itself is reason enough to have a Christian ceremony. In all the decisions you will be making, plan the wedding ceremony itself to be all God intended it to be. Why not start right now, together, by asking His blessings on your special day and new beginnings and for His guidance on your wedding plans? God Bless You, Pastors Mike & Vicki Bang

To write or not to write Writing your own vows is a great opportunity to share your commitment to your future spouse with your friends and family during your ceremony. There are some things you need to take into consideration before the big day! • You both need to be into it. If only one of you wants to write vows, maybe what you should do instead is write private letters to each other. That way you can still share your heart with each other. • Check with the officiant. Sometimes they can help you. Sometimes you aren’t allowed. Check first and you will be in the clear! • Plan early. You do not want to “wing it” – that only goes well in movies (where someone memorized the script pretending to wing it!) • Create an outline. Every great speech begins with an outline. • Keep it SHORT and sweet. Yes, we are all there for your big day. But please, keep it short, there is a party to get to. • Remember your audience. If you first met because he threw beads at you during Mardi Gras… that may not be the best story to recite during your vows. Saying you were at a parade and your eyes connected through a mass of people and you knew there was something special about him… a much better version of the same story. • Schedule the time to do it. Again… Do not even try to wing it! Your wedding day is a chaotic mess of love and flowers. Don’t leave something as important as writing our own vows to the last minute. Take the time to sit down weeks before hand and think about your relationship, what it means to you, and why you are making this commitment to each other. • Practice OUT LOUD. You will feel silly. Do it while you are driving. Everyone talks to themselves in the car. You’ll look like all the other crazies driving around. • Don’t forgot to talk about your future together. Your vows are about you as a couple. You may be writing your own vows to back away from the traditional “in sickness and in health…” but remember, those vows were written for a life time. -Emily Sorenson, GonnaGetWed.com

P

lanning a wedding can be both stressful and expensive. Here is a list of who traditionally pays for what items in the wedding:

Bride’s Family

• Engagement Party (optional) • Stationary – Save-the-dates, Invitations, etc • Bridal Consultant • Wedding Gown/Accessories • Flowers for Ceremony & reception • Bridesmaid’s Bouquets • Reception • Music • Photography • Videography • Ceremony • Transportation to Reception • Family’s Wedding Attire (Mother of the Bride dress, Father of the Bride’s suit or Tux, etc)

Who pays for what? Bride

• Grooms Ring • Wedding gift for Groom • Bridesmaid’s luncheon • Gifts for Bridesmaids

Groom’s Family

• Rehearsal Dinner • Engagement Party (optional) • Wedding Attire

Groom

• Bride’s Rings • Marriage License • Officiants Fee • Grooms formalwear • Brides Bouquet, Boutineers for family • Gifts for groomsmen • Gift for the bride • Gift for parents • Honeymoon • Transportation to the honeymoon

Attendants

• Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties • Gifts for the Bride and Groom • Their own wedding attire (i.e. suit/ tux rental & dresses, shoes, etc) • Their own transportation to the wedding (airfare, etc) Of course, remember this is just a guideline, not a rule! Every wedding is different, every family is different and everyone has a different situation, so each bride and groom will have to work out the details of who pays for what themselves. In the last few years it has been in fashion for the couple to pay for everything and the families help with what they can, the key is always a budget! Your Wedding Budget Figuring out how much to spend on your wedding can be tough – there are a lot of things to consider! How many guests? What type of venue for the reception? A destination wedding or a wedding down the street? Outdoor or indoor? Are you going to pay for it all yourself or are your parents going to help? Every wedding is different and every budget should be different. Here is a little guide to help you determine approximately how much you should be spending on each area of your wedding.

Be an educated consumer! Look for deals. Booking a venue during their off season may yield in a discounted rate. Renting decorations may be more affordable than buying. Explore your options – there is always another option. Look at them and choose what is best for you and your groom. The most important thing to think about when planning a budget is the big picture! Yes – this is the most important day of your life, but the point to getting married is to build a life with your spouse. Starting out $20,000 in debt isn’t the best idea. Nor is spending your parent’s retirement savings! Maybe your ideal wedding is a small personal affair with close friends and family. Or maybe you will invite everyone who follows you on Pinterest! Decide what type of wedding you will have before you start making purchases and paying deposits. Remember, this is his wedding also. Make sure you are planning something you both will really love.

Vendor Information Questions to ask all vendors you hire for your wedding, big or small! ❤ Do you have liability insurance? ❤ Is there a deposit due and when? ❤ When is the balance due? ❤ What is the cancellation policy? ❤ Do you accept credit cards? ❤ How do you handle unforeseen issues? ❤ Do you have a backup plan if something goes wrong on our wedding day?

General Vendor Hiring Hints ❤ Ask friends and family to recommend service providers and venues that were satisfactory. ❤ Talk to your friends who were recently married. They are an excellent source of knowledge. ❤ The first question to ask potential service providers: Do you have my date open? This will save you time and energy if they do not. ❤ Meet with several vendors in each category before you hire any particular one, even if you really loved the first one you met. ❤ Be sure to conduct an interview with a potential vendor, regardless if you have several great referrals for him or her. Your personalities might clash, indicating a wrong fit for you. ❤ Ask for a tour, samples, demos, previews, pictures and referrals from all your vendors before they are hired. Don’t just take their word for it. ❤ Once you find a vendor you want… don’t wait, book them!

General Contract Guidelines ❤ Look over the entire contract. If you don’t understand something, ask them! If you have an

attorney, you may want them to review the larger contracts. ❤ Make sure your contracts all have the date, time, location and a detailed description of all services and items to be provided by the vendor. ❤ Make sure the contract includes ALL fees and how they apply: late fees, overtime charges, gratuities, open-ended charges, etc. Also make sure they include times, if time sensitive, and try to put a cap on prices if they could get out of control. ❤ Contracts must stipulate the deposit amount, due date and all payments and amounts due. ❤ Do not sign if you do not agree with any part of the contract. Instead, negotiate the details and have a new contract drafted that you feel comfortable signing. ❤ Make sure you get a copy of the contract before you leave with both signatures and the date singed. 29

Questions to Ask! Questions for Wedding Consultant/Planner ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Do you have a portfolio with photos of weddings you’ve planned? Do you have a business license? How long have you been in business? Are you certified? By what association? What is your fee? Do you charge hourly, a flat fee or a percentage of the total wedding budget? If the fee is hourly or based on a percentage, are you willing to put a cap on the total fee? Can we hire you to plan the entire event? Can we hire you to help with just some of the planning? Can we hire you to help on the wedding day only? What details do you handle? What details won’t you handle? How many meetings should we plan to have? Can we conduct business by phone, fax or e-mail? If site has been selected: Do you know the catering manager/events planner at our site? Do you have vendors you’ve worked with in the past? Are there a few you like for each service or just one vendor for each?

Do these service providers offer your clients discounts? Do these service providers give you a personal financial incentive to work with them, aside from any discount that we may receive? ❤ What would the process be for selecting and hiring vendors for our wedding? ❤ Do you like to take complete control or do you welcome our ideas and participation? ❤ Will you be on hand the day of the wedding? ❤ How many other events will you be organizing that day? ❤ How many people on your staff will be at the wedding? ❤ How long has your staff worked with you? ❤ How will you (and your staff) be dressed? ❤ Do you have liability insurance? ❤ How does the payment schedule work? ❤ What is your cancellation policy? ❤ Do you have references? If hiring consultant to be at wedding: ❤ What happens if you are ill on our wedding day? ❤ Do you require meals? ❤ Will you travel if necessary? ❤ Will there be additional expenses for parking and travel?

❤ ❤

Tips from the experts! Why should I hire a Wedding Planner?

“As a former bride myself I know how fast your special day goes. You want to be able to enjoy every single moment, so let a planner handle the fine details. Hiring a planner is important for keeping your sanity and your happiness. Your wedding is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your lives; it shouldn’t be spent worrying about coordinating vendors. This is where a planner or day of coordinator comes in handy. Wedding Planners have experience working on many different weddings with many different couples. This means they are there for YOU, to give you pointers on how to achieve your overall vision in an organized and budget conscious fashion. They are not there to take away Lucy Henglefelt. Wedding Planner the fun of planning, but to be the go-to contact so you can relax and focus on & Owner of Redefined Designs. starting your new journey together as husband and wife.” 30

MAKE-UP STYLE | PERSONAL TAN PLAN TAKE A VOW OF WELLNESS WEDDING WEIGHT LOSS | BRIDAL BOOT CAMP

Chose your make-up T

according to your style

he Modern Bride lives to make an impression, and her wedding day style is no exception. Modern brides, go for a high impact eyeshadow, choosing one color for your orbital bone and lid, and a contrasting color for your crease. Balance out this look with a neutral lip color. The Vintage Bride embodies nostalgia like no other. She can effortlessly channel Marilyn Monroe and her iconic red lip. Choose this hue wisely. For brides with cool undertones, look for berries and crimsons. For brides with warm undertones, find rouge with an orange tint. But don’t forget about your cheeks! Blushed dimples will complete your vintage look for your wedding day.

The Traditional Bride’s look is centered on her classic beauty. Accent your features naturally with gold or champagne colored eyeshadow and a soft pink lip. Choose a lip liner just one shade darker than your lipstick for contrast. Finish off your lips with a sheer gloss and give to your maidof-honor for reapplication throughout the day. The Elegant Bride loves all things sophisticated. Her timeless make-up style is made easy with a wine colored smoky eye for her big day. With a neutral base brush the claret shade on your lid and finish the look with a liquid eyeliner. On the inside corners of your eyes, tap your neutral eyeshadow to brighten your eyes. No matter which style you choose for your wedding day look, remember to own it. Your confidence will make you more beautiful than the make-up on your face ever could! -Kristin Cooke, Contributing writer GonnaGetWed.com

Your wedding is only ONE DAY, but the photos last FOREVER. 33

The best smile

for the most important day! •

What services are brides most interested in before their wedding? Brides are usually

most interested in Whitening or Restorative Services to improve their smiles.

• When should brides come in for these services? Brides

should come in at least 6 months prior to their wedding for any restorative services. Then we have a chance to take a look at what steps we can take to improve their smile and schedule it well in advance of the wedding. For Whitening services, we recommend anyone in the bridal party comes into our office for whitening 3 months prior to the

wedding. Although only 1 90 minute appointment is needed, this helps ensure the quality of the whitening.

Photo provided by Dental Solutions

• Who should consider these services? Certainly the Bride and

Groom, but anyone in the Bridal Party should consider whitening services.

When it comes to the gift registry, should the bride and groom put any oral care items on their list? An electric

tooth brush does so much to improve oral health. We recommend the Sonicare Electric Toothbroush, which anyone can get in our office! -Dental Solutions, Sioux Falls, SD

your look!

rides are changing. Today’s trends are contemporary and urban, and that is why smokey eyes are such a beautiful, modern bridal look. The days when brides had to choose between two looks for their wedding are gone. Now, brides can be more adventurous and start having fun with their make up!

Smokey eyes are not just a nighttime look anymore. With this universal look, it doesn’t matter what skin tone or eye color you have, there’s a smokey look for everyone. So here are a few tips to achieve the perfect smokey eye on your wedding day: 1. Prepare the lid The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to keep eyelids oil-free. To do this, start with an eyeshadow base or primer. Swipe it across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step. 2. Apply eyeliner If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply

liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing the line thicker in the middle of eye. If you’re opting for a jewel-toned eye, line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green eye liner. 3. Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom of your eyes, use an eyeliner pencil, because they’re easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect. 4. Apply light base color Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your brow bone. 5. Blend the darker color Be sure to keep the dark color below the crease. Using an eyeshadow brush, blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend

hair

color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop the deep color your at crease. The key here is to blend, blend, blend! 6. Double-check your work Make sure both eyes match, and blend the colors with a Q-tip if needed. 7. Top it off with mascara You’ll want to finish the look by applying a few coats of mascara so lashes are thick and dark. -GonnaGetWed.com

BRIDAL O

boot camp

nce you find the dress of your dreams, be sure you put forth the effort necessary to ensure you will look your very best in it. You will want to focus on and play up the assets that your dress will show off. In addition to your regular healthy diet and cardio program, try adding these specific exercises to your regimen. Each exercise should be done 3 times a week in sets of 10 reps and 4 sets per day. Halter, strapless and open back dresses will feature your upper back. Tone those muscles including lats, traps, rhomboids and deltoids by trying the dumbbell raise. Grasp the dumbbells with your arms in front of you, palms facing your body. Slowly raise the dumbbells up until your arms are straight out in front of your chin. Lower slowly and repeat. (Fig. 1)

Gowns with straps or plunging or sweetheart necklines will draw attention to your chest. Those muscles include your pecs and deltoids. Try doing a dumbbell chest press. Lie flat on the floor with your arms forming an “L shape. Extend arms upward until arms are straight over your head and elbows are straight. Then lower using a controlled motion. (Fig. 2) Spaghetti straps, halter and strapless dresses all feature the arms and shoulders, including your biceps and triceps. The dumbbell shoulder raise will allow you to tone those areas. (Fig. 3) Hold the dumbbells with your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and palms facing your body. Lift your arms over your head until fully extended. Lower and raise again. Form-fitted, sheath, column, hourglass, mermaid and trumpet style dresses cling to the body, emphasizing the belly, butt and thighs. Your abs, obliques, quads, glutes and hamstrings are the focal points. (Fig. 4) The dumbbell lunge can work most of those areas. Holding the dumbbells straight at your sides, take a large step forward. Keep the back leg straight and bend the front leg as you descend as far as you can. Then step forward with the back foot now making this the front bent leg. For more exercise options, be sure to enlist the help of your local gym trainer and fitness experts. After all, if you are serious, nothing is better than having your very own bootie kicker coaching you all the way to your wedding day!

R e m e m b e r, your health comes first!

Calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) at jennycraig.com to find out if you fall into the overweight or obese category, which puts you at a greater risk of heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Knowing where you stand can help you with goal setting.

Set a realistic goal.

Don’t expect your body to change overnight. Come on, Rome wasn’t built in a day! Losing 1 to 2 pounds per week is healthy and a totally brag-worthy acomplishment.

Get moving

You barely have enough time to plan your wedding, let alone log long hours at the gym! But the good news is that you don’t have to hit the gym to lose weight, you can add natural activity (such as walking) into your day to help with weight loss. Not sure how to start boosting your activity? Visit Jennycraig.com for helpful articles on how to get your body moving!

Keep your eye on the prize

When temptation comes your way, whether it’s an extra slice of cake or the fried food that your co-workers order at happy hour, just visualize how you will want to feel in your wedding gown on your special day. Write your motivation down where you can see it and keep thinking happy thoughts!

Be prepared

Keep non-starchy veggies on hand for when you need a snack. They are low in fat (and calories!), full of nutrients and totally filling. Celery sticks and sliced up bell peppers are easy to store and toss in your purse to tide you over between meetings with the florist and the photographer. Cheers to a happily, healthfully wedded you!

Creating a Personal Tan Plan H

ow many times do you wish you had a beautiful tan as you do your last minute preparations for a vacation, wedding or special event? As you are finalizing your plans consider adding a TAN to your to-do list. A natural bronze glow makes you look good and feel great. Everyone wants a beautiful tan, but they often don’t know the best way to get that tan. Do you go for a natural tan or a spray tan? How long does it take to build a tan? Just as proper preparation is essential to running a successful 5k race, determining a tan plan based on your tanning goals and skin type is necessary to achieve the natural, radiant results. Let us help you discover your tan plan and get you ready to look good and feel great! I’m getting married in less than 60 days and then heading off to a tropical paradise for my honeymoon. Do I still have enough time to get a natural tan? Not only will a natural tan help you look great in your swimsuit but it will also help prevent major sunburn on your honeymoon vacation. Sixty days is the perfect amount of time to build and maximize a natural tan. Depending on your skin type it is going to take 6 - 12 tanning sessions to build a base tan and 1 - 3 sessions per week to maintain your tan. Using a good indoor tanning lotion will also make a huge difference in your tanning results. Tanning lotion prevents dry skin, helps you tan 4060% faster and extends the life of your tan.

40

I’m going to be in a wedding this weekend and I’m white as a ghost! How can I get a tan quickly? A spray tan is a perfect way to achieve a natural looking tan in just a few minutes. VersaPRO is the number one rated spray tan booth. Why? Because they use a beet extract in their solution; therefore, your spray tan looks natural and not orange. Spray tans typically last between five and seven days so it’s best to spray tan one to two days before your event. For best results, shower and exfoliate your skin prior to going to the tanning salon. The Versa Spa offers three different bronzing levels so that you can achieve the most natural looking tan for your skin type. Double bronzer is recommended for blonde hair, blue eyes and triple bronzer is recommended for

dark hair, brown eyes. Double dip is the darkest bronzing level as you do two spray tans back to back. It is great for someone who already is naturally tan and desires more color. Is it okay if I mix tanning in a bed and spray tanning? Of course! In fact, many people call it their tanning cocktail! Try using a stand-up bed after doing a spray tan. The stand-up bed will help your body absorb the bronzing solution and increase your tan for optimal results. Mixing a spray tan into your normal tanning routine is also a great way for an extra shot of color. What are the benefits of UV exposure? The most obvious benefit of UV exposure whether it be from the sun or indoors is that a tan is the body’s natural protection against sunburn. UV exposure also helps improve skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. Many of us also unknowingly suffer from SAD, or seasonal affective disorder. SAD is an episode of depression that occurs at a certain time of year, usually during winter. Small amounts of UV exposure can help lift your mood and also increase the vitamin D levels in your body. For more information about the benefits of UV exposure visit tanningtruth. com.

Questions to Ask! ❤ Can we schedule a trial run? ❤ Is there an additional cost for a trial run or is it part of the fee if I book your services?

❤ Will you travel? Are there additional fees? ❤ Will you stay to help me with my hair, veil, headpiece and make-up touch-ups after the ceremony? At what additional cost?

❤ How long will it take to have my hair and makeup done?

❤ What kind of space and lighting do you need? ❤ Will you bring an assistant or additional help? ❤ Will you or your assistant style my attendants’ hair and do their makeup?

❤ How many hair styles and makeup can you complete and how long do you need?

❤ How long will it take and what is the fee? ❤ If you are not at the wedding, can you provide me with hair products and makeup for quick fixes?

❤ Do you bring your own equipment and hair products?

Advice at a Glance! ❤

Choose a hairstyle you are comfortable with. You want to look like yourself on your wedding day.

❤ ❤

❤ 44

Plan a practice for your hair and makeup to make sure you like the style and colors. Once completed, take photos of the final look so you can refer to them on your day.

Take it easy on the tan. Don’t try to cram in two months of tanning in one week. For spray on tanning have your last treatment at least one week prior to the wedding.

Don’t make drastic changes to your body right before your wedding. Don’t starve yourself or resort to crash dieting. Instead opt for a 4-6 month exercise routine.

Don’t get a brand new haircut before your wedding; just get a trim a few weeks before.

Prepare a reasonable weight loss plan and stick to it! (A pound a week is the healthiest.)

Don’t have a facial or any other skin treatments within two weeks of your wedding. You want to have time for your skin to recover and you don’t want red blotchy skin.

Ask friends to work out with you. This will keep you motivated and on track.

The morning of your wedding, wear a button-down shirt or a dress that can be slipped down over your hips. Do not wear clothing that you will have to pull over your head. You don’t want to mess up your hair and makeup. If you are having your makeup professionally done, purchase or ask for samples so that you’ll be able to do touch ups throughout the day. Carry a supply of blotting tissues so you can keep the shine off your nose and forehead.

Do not resort to drastic measures. Taking a dietary supplement may help you lose weight quickly but results will not be permanent.

Eat smaller portions and incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet to keep you satisfied.

Zit Zapper: use a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone under foundation.

For sexy legs, soak in a bath for several minutes to soften hair. Then use a moisturizing shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth.

BRIDAL SHOWER IDEAS MAKE YOUR SHOWER UNIQUE GIFT REGISTRY CHECKLISTS

Unique ideas for your A

bridal shower is one of those parties that are fun and practical at the same time. The Maid of Honor normally hosts the party so, if you have that privilege and still don’t have any clue of what you are going to do, here are some ideas that might save your day (and the bride’s!)

1. Get fun bridal shower invites - Get original! There are

thousands of modern invites that you can use for this kind of party. If you want to see some really good options for this, we have a lot of local vendors that will be more than happy to help you!! Just visit GonnaGetWed.com and start planning!

2. Create your own perfume bar - It is known that humans can remember more things through smells than through other senses.

46

Bridal Shower

You can set up a bar of oils and pretty perfume bottles so your guests can create their very own scent! There are DIY perfume kits that you can buy with customizable scent options to make your party unforgettable!

3. Frozen yogurt buffet - You can rent a frozen yogurt machine and set out a buffet of toppings, from candies and cereal to fresh chopped fruit, and have a dessert that’s delicious to eat and fun to create. 4. Colorful juice stand - A whole bar of cocktails is a treat for the eyes and the taste buds. Set up a bevy of colorful beverages in vintage glasses. Stock them with fresh fruit and decorate it with hanging signs to label each flavor. Don’t forget to use the bride’s colors!!

5. Give out useful gifts - Give

your girls a gift they’ll actually use! Canvas totes are stylish and practical -- stuff them with extras that fit the party theme (bottles of wine, flower seed packets, perfume, beach towels…). You can even have them monogrammed and personalized! Just remember that a bridal shower is about having fun and building excitement for the wedding, so don’t worry about what’s proper or popular. If you enjoy the theme, so will everyone else.

Advice at a Glance! ❤

Gifts for your bridesmaids may be presented at the bridesmaids’ luncheon, the rehearsal dinner or before the wedding as everyone is getting ready.

The groom gives presents to his groomsmen at the bachelor party or rehearsal dinner.

Gifts for attendants may be the same or different. However, if they are all the same you might want to consider personalizing them.

52

Gifts for child attendants are either taken care of by the bride or given by the bride and groom as a couple. These gifts can either be given before the ceremony or at the rehearsal dinner. Give your parents their gifts at a time when you are alone together so it is more personal and special.

If you and your groom wish to exchange gifts, you can do so the night before the wedding or on your wedding night. Consider doing this alone as it will feel more intimate.

The earlier you register, the better. Your close friends and family may want to purchase engagement gifts for you. Be sure to check your registry often for discontinued items.

Call before going to a store to register because some stores may require an appointment.

Give yourself plenty of time when registering because it can be time-consuming.

our invitation is the first thing your guests will see. Be sure to make a spectacular impression by introducing your wedding theme and colors to your guests before they see you walk down the aisle. 54

Choosing an invitation style.

While a panel card (or single rectangle sheet) invitation is the most popular style, there are many options when it comes to choosing your invitation. Pocket-style designs keep all of your information cards, like the accommodations, reception and rsvp cards, tidy and organized for your guests. Shapes are also popular, including circles and cards with decorative corner cuts. Many of these styles don’t require extra postage, so feel free to break from the mold and make your invitation unique.

It’s all in the details.

A fresh and very popular detail is to print a simple design or pattern that matches your theme on the back of your invitation. This gives a thoughtful, “finished” look to the invitation.

Envelope liners, personalized stamps and the use of textured materials also help to create a unique invitation. Use ribbon, twine and various paper textures to craft the perfect look.

Choosing the right font.

First, make sure you can read it! If you can’t, your guests won’t be able to, either. Script fonts are perfect for formal invitations, but be sure to see a proof with your names and information in the selected font, to be sure it’s legible. When choosing a script font, look at how the loops on the letters overlay one another. Many times, just a little bit of spacing between the letters allows the font to be read more easily. Sans Serif fonts are great for modern invitations, and a combination of script and serif fonts is perfect for vintage-inspired invitations.

Don’t forget the "Day-of" details.

Items like menu cards, place cards, table numbers and favors continue the theme of your wedding from the ceremony to the reception. It’s easy to extend the design elements you have chosen for your invitation and ceremony program onto other items your guests will see.

Invitation Etiquette

he guest list is set, but how exactly do you address the envelopes? Who comes first, and what is this “and guest” business? Follow these simple guidelines to get your invitations to the post office in no time. • Check your guest list to ensure guest names and addresses are correct. • Be sure to use formal names; no nicknames or initials. Always spell out titles or degrees, like Doctor. • Always use Mr. and Mrs. for married couples with the same last name. If the married couple have different last names, then use Mr. and Ms. and place the names on the same line in alphabetical order.

• If a couple is not married but living together, use Mr. and Ms. and place the names in alphabetical order on separate lines. • Children's names should go on the inner envelope. If you're not using an inner envelope, be sure the children's names go on a separate line under the parents' names. (If children's names are left off of an invitation, it implies they are not invited.) Children over the age of 18 who are living with their parents should receive their own invitation. • Women who are widowed should be addressed using their late husband's name with Mrs. as the title. • When inviting single persons who are welcome to bring a guest, use Mr.,

Ms. or Miss, followed by their name and "and Guest" on the inner envelope. If you’re not using an inner envelope, put the guest on a separate line. If you know whom he or she will be bringing, feel free to include that person's name on a separate line on the envelope. • All words in the address should be spelled out, including street names and other identifiers, like Apartment or Post Office Box. The names of the city and state should also be spelled out. • The return address should go on the back flap of the envelope. Much like the guest’s address, all words in the return address should be spelled out. -PaperWerks, Sioux Falls, SD

Goodbye Traditional Veils...

Hello Headpieces!

C

lose your eyes and imagine a beautiful bride on her wedding day. Though everyone sees a different dress, and a different bouquet, it is hard to imagine a bride without her veil. It is the ultimate bridal accessory. Even in casual clothing, a woman can put on a veil, and instantaneously become a bride! Veils can be gorgeous, elegant, and classy, but they are also very typical. They are a very traditional bridal stamp that is slowly disappearing from the runways. If you are not the traditional bride, there are numerous alternatives to veils that allow you to let your personality shine through on your big day. New styles include unique and original headpieces! From vibrant florals to quirky bows, any bride can find a veil alternative that suits her personality best. Even if you want to wear a veil for the ceremony, you can consider finding something different to wear for the reception. Switching up your attire for the reception allows you to show more of your personality, and have two different and amazing looks on the best day of your life! Even top designers agree that it is important to not let trends dictate your veil or headpiece. After all, every bride is a princess and there are many options for veil alternatives to fit your personality and style the most. Greg & LaRae Photography

What dress would A

Dropped Gown

fit me best?

s a newly engaged woman, one of the first things you’re probably thinking about is finding that perfect dress! You’ve dreamed of how you would look on this day forever and won’t settle for anything less than perfect. If you are still wondering what dress would be best for your body type, here are a couple of tips!

Ball Gown & Full Skirt - This

style is your classic fairy tale princess gown. The bodice is tight and the skirt full. This style is great for taller brides and will successfully hide larger-sized hips. If you are a short or smaller figured bride, steer clear of this style as you can easily disappear in this full gown.

Side Wrap

Pinup – The execution of this look varies greatly with tight gathers at points, loose tucks or draped fabric. This skirt may be attached to almost any style of bodice. Shorter brides may not always achieve the desired impact of this look.

someone who wants to hide their hips.

Dropped – This dress sits below your natural waist and rests on your hips. Brides with an hourglass figure might consider this a great option. A-Line – A forgiving wedding dress silhouette, this style flairs out at your waist which will make shorter brides appear taller and help larger brides appear smaller. Side Wrap - A figure flattering gown, similar to the A-Line style that wraps a detail fabric overlay across the waist and/or bust creating a slim look through the waist and minimizing the bust line. - GonnaGetWed.com

Convertible – Many

A- Line

brides are now opting for a two-dress look on their big day. The convertible wedding gown is a traditional full ball gown with a cleverly placed detachable skirt transforming your full gown into a fun, party dress.

Trumpet – This style is fitted through the hips. It flairs into a fuller skirt just above the knees. It is great for showcasing curves, but does not offer camouflage for Trumpet

Soft, feminine, romantic feel is what 2014 is all about. Lace is still popular with beautiful back design details in keyhole, low deep "V", and beading. The satin ball gowns took the runway in shades of pink, ivory, and cream for the soft formal romantic feeling. Brides are still choosing gowns with body framing silhouettes with fit 'n flare skirts, straps and "bling". Honor the Gown

T

here was a time when etiquette would strongly dictate a certain tuxedo for a certain time of day – or that you weren’t allowed to bend the rules on how formal the tuxedo should be for the venue where your wedding would be held.

The only hard fast rule that applies today is that the groom needs to honor your gown by matching the style and formality. Everything centers around your gown. Here’s a few tips to ensure that your groom is truly honoring your gown – and honoring the importance of the moment when you both say, “I do”. • If your gown is formal, full length and elegant with a long train and a mid to long veil Groom: Black or navy tuxedo with a

bow tie (preferably white / ivory to match gown). • If your gown is elegant and full length with a mid to short train and a mid to short veil Groom: Black or colored tuxedo with a bow tie or a Windsor knot tie . • If your gown is simple and full length with no train and a short veil or no veil at all Groom: A tuxedo or a dark suit. • If your gown is short with no train and no veil Groom: A suit or possibly dress pants and a vest and tie or even a shirt with rolled up sleeves for a more casual look. Another great way to spice up the day if you’ve picked a more formal

theme, but want to have some fun with the tuxedos, is to add some accessories that will only come out when you want them to – or at the reception – try these ideas! 1. Add colored socks and suspenders. 2. Choose a second vest to change into at the reception. 3. Bring a second tuxedo to change into at the reception. Honor the importance of this day, this moment and your gown by dressing your groom in something that truly shows he’s special and he cared enough to dress for the occasion.

The perfect attire for him. W

ith all the hustle and bustle surrounding the choice of the wedding dress, veil, shoes, and makeup, it’s easy to overlook an equally important detail—what will the groom wear? The groom may have a tuxedo or suit of choice he likes, but it is important that it matches the style of the wedding ceremony. Even if the bride and groom agree on the groom’s outfit, it is likely that neither one of them is especially knowledgeable about the specifics of wedding menswear. For this reason, it is extremely important to consult an expert.

They can answer any questions, as well as bring to light whatever concerns have not yet surfaced. However, blindly obeying every suggestion is not advised either. It’s best to consider every opinion objectively, and the groom’s likes and dislikes should be the deciding factor.

corresponds with the bride. Having the groom wear a brighter or different color than the groomsmen in general will also do the trick. You could also vary the lapels, with the groom sporting satin lapels instead of the standard version on the groomsmen.

Regardless of the style, color or fit, it is recommended that the groom stand out from his groomsmen. This can be easily achieved by having the groomsmen wear ties that match the bridesmaid’s dresses while the groom wears one that

With the right research, the perfect groom’s attire is right around the corner.

hat will brides be wearing this year? Depending on who you talk to, the trends are either playing it safe, or throwing out the rulebook. As always, it comes down to the wearer. How you accessorize and finish a dress – and whether it really fits with your personal tastes – are what help create its presence. Ring designers clued us into the hottest new engagement ring styles. A simple solitaire may be a classic (and safe) choice, but 2014 is a year full of trends, specially in jewelry!

Rose, Yellow and White Gold No longer are brides looking for just white metal settings. The modern bride is keen on the two-tone luxury of white gold mixed with yellow or rose gold. Lush and posh are the key terms for these settings.

Unique Diamond Shapes - Round and Princess shaped diamonds are still the front runners, but unique shapes are becoming a more popular option. With celebrities favoring shapes like cushion, oval, pear and emerald, our local brides are taking notice!

The Traditional Metals for Grooms - Alternative metals continue

to be popular for many of our grooms. The bravado and durability of metals like Damascus steel, titanium, chrome and black zirconium meet the needs of the contemporary groom.

T

Stackable Wedding Bands - Who

says you can’t have it all? Brides are selecting more than one wedding band to perfectly stack with their engagement rings or simply with each other. It lends a more personalized and individual look for the fashionista!

V Wedding Day Jewelry Remember! don't pick jewelry for the sake of wearing jewelry. The style of your dress is the best indicator as to whether you need jewelry. Enhance the beauty of your dress with jewelry, don't ruin or hide it when selecting bridal jewelry. This is why you should allow your dress to decide what is needed as far as jewelry. Do you have a lower neckline that a necklace and earrings would complement? Are your sleeves short enough for a bracelet to be added gracefully? Reflect the type of jewelry with various features of your dress. In some cases if the gems are liberal on a dress, then balance is created by selecting jewelry that is simpler. Allow your hairstyle to dictate wedding jewelry selec-

78

tion. If you are wearing your hair up, then earrings that hang may be appropriate. But, again, every item of jewelry you choose needs to complement your dress as a whole, and your final look needs to show you off, not camouflage you. Choose jewelry that reflects your personality and who you are. You want to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. You have presumably selected a dress that matches your personality, so do the same with your jewelry. If you feel more comfortable with simpler jewelry, then select items that match your dress and your personal style. -PHOTOS & ARTICLE BY THE DIAMOND ROOM, SIOUX FALLS, SD

ongratulations on your upcoming wedding, whether it be in the approaching months or in the approaching years! Getting engaged is an exciting time in your life, and it is the beginning of a world of decisions to be made. When shopping for rings, couples today have some seemingly daunting choices before them. Whether your signature flair is modern-sleek or delicate-antique, there is also the practical decision of which metal is best for you. And gentlemen, it's not all about HER ring anymore. Grooms-to-be have more choices than ever before!

Platinum is the pinnacle of all precious metals, prized for its longevity and rarity. Platinum is a pure metal with a distinct white finish; that

is why it is called "The Eternal Metal".

Gold

is the most popular choice for rings, with white gold running away as the overwhelming favorite. 14k gold, whether it is white, yellow or rose, is the most economically sound investment in your ring. White gold does require extra attention throughout the life of your ring, as its finish is actually enhanced by a metal called rhodium, which may be replaced every year or so.

Tungsten

is probably the most talked about alternative metal, with its hardness on the Mohs scale being a 9 out of 10. It is virtually scratch resistant and retains its finish indefinitely.

Titanium

is a light-weight choice for grooms. Titanium rings, like

tungsten, sport a masculine whitegray color and are available in a wide variety of designs and finishes.

Cobalt, chrome and stainless steel are also newer choices for

grooms. These affordable metals create a bright white finish for his wedding band and can be polished up as needed over time to erase scrapes and scratches.

Which metal is right for you?

Choosing Your Wedding A

When choosing bridal party accessories there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, the jewelry should complement the theme of the day. We all know that the right accessories can make an outfit, and you want it to help enhance the overall theme of the day. This can mean choosing more or less formal jewelry for your bridesmaids. Also, if you plan on giving jewelry to your bridesmaids as gifts, you might

It’s always important to remember that what might be flattering on one woman might be overwhelming on another. Lastly, it is also important to make sure the jewelry is a good fit for the bridesmaid dresses. In other words, do the necklaces flatter the necklines of the dresses and is the overall look balanced? If a bridesmaid’s dress is simpler the jewelry can be a little bit flashier and if the dress is more detailed it is best to stick with simple jewelry.

W

hat is more romantic than looking inside your wedding band and seeing a personalized engraving with special meaning for you and your spouse? Your jeweler will be able to recommend the engraving process that will best meet your needs. There are a few methods currently being used in the marketplace. First, there is hand engraving done by an artisan engraver using a hand tool called a graver. It is not a perfect process and the results will depend on

the quality and skill of the craftsman doing the work. Also, commonly used is machine engraving which is much more precise but usually limited to one row of words using up to 20 characters. Finally, a specialty process adapted to a not so new technology, called laser engraving, has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for couples who are thinking of engraving their rings. Wedding bands are now being created with entire messages that are clearly readable and up to 225

characters long. This allows the ability to write whole passages on the inside of wedding bands. Currently, bridal couples are engraving civil vows, religious vows, love poetry, even Shakespearean sonnets. This sentimental and romantic addition to your wedding bands can forever be a reminder of the commitments made and adds a special touch to your wedding day.

The wedding band’s circular shape symbolizes never-ending love and it represents commitment to the bride. So, here are answers to some common questions that might come up as a bride chooses her wedding band.

Should the wedding band match the engagement ring? It doesn’t have to! You can decide which style

you like best and go with it! If they don’t match, you can always wear your engagement ring for special occasions or on your right hand as often as you like.

How do you decide which style of ring is right for you? Your wedding band should match your personal style, and your lifestyle. It should be as comfortable as you need it to be. If you actively use your hands all day at work, make sure your ring won’t be in the way! Make sure to choose something more simple.

How do you find a more unique wedding band?

There are quite a few jewelers that are willing to help you design your own wedding band. Many of them are even online! You could also try personalizing your wedding band by engraving it with a personalized message.

How will my ring fit into my budget?

You have a stylish ring, but you also want it to your budget. If this is the case, you might consider using less expensive metals for your band. These include 14k yellow or white gold.

How do I find the right jeweler? Get references and

E

verybody has heard the sayings “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and “a diamond lasts forever,” but have you ever thought about the metal into which the diamonds are set? Or how the style of ring that is chosen may affect the lifespan of a ring? Often times, the practical side of choosing one’s “forever ring” is overlooked, resulting in recurring problems, costly repairs and dissatisfied customers. Just like in every industry, jewelry also goes through trends and fads. From the newest designer engagement rings and wedding bands to the hottest trends in colored metals and colored diamond fashions, the possibilities

Metal Type

seem almost endless! Knowing what styles you can see yourself wearing for a long time and the pros and cons of different metals can help to make your decision a little easier. The comparison chart below introduces some of the most commonly used metals and provides a comparison to consider when purchasing your ring. The latest trend in engagement rings has been a micropavé vintage design usually set in either platinum or white gold. Micropavé is a type of setting where several small diamonds are set close together and held in by several small prongs. Though the look is exceptional, customers often fail to

notice the future maintenance the ring is likely to need, which can become very costly. Though white gold still seems to be the favorite, yellow gold and twotone combinations are making a huge comeback! The best advice – stick to what you like and feel most comfortable wearing, but be informed about your purchase and the possible maintenance the ring could require within the years to come. -PHOTOS & ARTICLE BY THE DIAMOND ROOM, SIOUX FALLS, SD

Questions to Ask! ❤

How long does it take to order rings or do you have them ready to take home?

❤ Can a ring be resized later or does the decoration on it prevent this? ❤ Is there an additional charge to have a ring resized once it comes in?

❤ What are the prices of the bands? Hers?/His? ❤ Do you have loose diamonds to choose from? ❤ Do you engrave? ❤ If so, what is the cost and how long does it take? ❤ If not, can you recommend a jeweler who engraves?

❤ Once we’ve decided what we want, will you show us sample arrangements?

❤ How much is the item(s) we like?

Advice at a Glance! ❤ Many couples choose to have their rings engraved on the inside with their initials, wedding date, a short phrase or something else that is meaningful to them.

❤ Machine engraving is cheaper than hand engraving; however, the person that does the hand engraving makes a deeper cut which is a longer-lasting inscription.

❤ Make sure to put in writing exactly what you want

❤ Brides shouldn’t wear a ton of jewelry on their wedding day; less is often more! Items to choose from include bracelets, earrings, necklaces and other rings. At most, pair only two of these items along with your wedding rings. If you choose to wear a necklace, it should be small and discreet, no longer than 14-16 inches and never low enough to emphasize cleavage. In addition, pearls shouldn’t be larger than the largest pearl on the wedding dress.

Wedding in the woods Do you dream of a wedding in the woods, exchanging vows underneath trees and enjoying a reception off the beaten path? Then this is your ceremony style! A wedding in the woods is a romantic venue; natural beauty makes a perfect backdrop for exchanging vows. Make sure it’s open and large enough for guests to sit comfortably. It may also be wise to inform your guests of the unique location so they dress appropriately for the venue. Then, design your ceremony space where you’ll recite your vows. It requires a bit more in terms of setup for catering and seating, but all you have to do is add a few unique touches to make the space your own! Don’t forget to spend plenty of time snapping photos in the natural elements! These photos are incredible…

Traditional celebration Many traditional locations require some extra decorating to warm up the place! Some large flower arrangements at the altar, along the aisles, and in the entry way can turn a traditional church venue into a warm, beautiful ceremony. Churches usually have a larger seating area then you will need for your ceremony. Consider options for blocking off seating areas that won’t be distracting to the beauty of your decorations. Be sure the users are aware of the number of guests attending your wedding as well! You will want to make sure they don’t leave large areas of seats unfilled.

Beach wedding Who doesn't want to get married listening to the wonderful sound of the ocean like a movie star? If this is the wedding that fits you, go for it! But remember to check with your venue or wedding coordinator to make sure you’ve applied for the proper beach permits, if required. The sound of the crashing surf can be so atmospheric…and also noisy! Most venues will be able to provide electricity, so you can have a microphone for the officiant. Luckily, your setting is so picturesque that you won’t need to add décor. But an arch or chuppah makes a nice focal point. Many venues have these available or know where you can rent them. Also, and just in case, be aware that most beach sites are public. If you want complete privacy, rent beachfront restaurant or hotel, or an oceanview private estate.

Private venue The elegant bride will look for locations like museums, renting a private estate, or an opulent hall. Private venues offer many opportunities to create unique and beautiful wedding ceremonies, but because they aren’t made for weddings, there may be some things to consider before booking: • How much seating is available? • Will you have to rent your own chairs for the event? • Will there be any sort of “staging area” before the wedding? You will want to have an area where the bridal party can stay hidden from the guests until the ceremony begins. One of the benefits to an elegant location is that it is beautiful already and probably won’t require a lot of decorating on your end. Choosing some elements from your wedding motif to carry through your ceremony venue and your reception venue will help turn it into an elegant affair. Greg & LaRae Photography

COCKTAIL RECEPTIONS | WINE PAIRING FUN RECEPTION "BARS" CATERING TIPS

Catering Advice T

here are an endless number of questions that a bride can ask herself when it comes to choosing the appropriate caterer for her wedding reception. Brides need to consider the style or theme of the day, the types of ingredients used, and all of those “special touches that make the day absolutely perfect. There are countless ways to make your reception about you.

Valocity Studios

104

What is the overall "theme" of the day? • If your reception will be outdoors in July, you could consider a picnic style reception. • Or maybe your event will be more formal, and you would prefer to have table service for your guests.

What do you like? • If you and your spouse have a favorite food, like tacos, set up a fun taco bar with as many different toppings as you see fit. Think outside the box to create a unique day that is tailored to you. • Also, do you or your guests have allergies or special dietary needs? Make sure you choose a caterer who is willing to accommodate.

More than food? • Some caterers only provide food. Others offer other services that you might find helpful. Additional services can include providing china, platters, linens and other serving and presentation items. Some caterers may also provide rentals of tables and chairs.

I

t is important to consider all of these questions when determining your dining needs at your wedding reception. No one wants frustrated hungry guests ruining the day, and the food you serve can make a big impact. In Sioux Falls, The Marketplace Catering can help you create the reception of your dreams. With over 20 years of catering experience, they will take your special requests and use the freshest ingredients to make sure you and your guests are satisfied, and that you stay on mark with your wedding day budget. They want to help you create the perfect evening that is tailored exactly to your needs.

- GonnaGetWed.com

How would you like the food displayed? • Consider these options: tiered display, platter style, and elegant decorative touches. • The food presentation should match the style of wedding you will be having. An outdoor wedding in the woods will have a different background than a wedding inside a fancy restaurant. Also, keep in mind the size of reception space you will be working with.

Do you have specific special requests? • Maybe you want a whole hog roast, pasta bar, or sirloin sundae with as many condiments as you can think of. • Or, perhaps you have a groom who is determined to have strawberry Jello for dessert.

Schedule a tasting

• Choose a caterer who lets you schedule a tasting session prior to the party. It helps you ensure that you and your guests will be happy and there will be no unpleasant surprises.

Catering Tips A

lthough every bride wants to get the best price, what's even more important is getting what you are looking for. Often times, guests will talk about what a beautiful wedding it was. More often, they will discuss (in detail) how good the food was or wasn't. When it comes to choosing the catering company for your special day. Decide on your budget and try to look within your price range. In other words, if you want "cheap" - you have to expect that you'll only get what you pay for. If "oofy" is what you are looking for - understand that you are going to need to pay for that and most likely narrow down your choices for selecting the right team.

Every caterer has it's own comfort zone. And, in general, you are looking at 3 classes (or categories) of catering vendors being available. For example: Subway and Jimmy John's both offer catering - and if you are looking for sub sandwiches - chances are one of these two vendors will (and should) be getting your business. But on the other hand, if you are looking for the elegance that you've seen created by Chef Dominique, that's what you will have to pay for. You will want to work within the chosen caterer's "comfort zone" to get your desired results. Looking for great flavor without breaking the bank‌.a company like MarketPlace Catering could be the right answer. Flexibility, but within reason. Most events are using our fresh made family recipes (like mom used to make). To assure that you get exactly what you are looking for, if we believe that another company might be better suited to fill your request, you will be informed. If you have a special request or recipe that you wish to be a part of your reception meal, ask! Recently a groom, who was raised on a hog farm, requested a full (head-on) hog roast. Find out if your caterer is able to set up outside or if they must have access to electricity.

T

he kind of music you pick for your wedding dance will have a huge impact on the entire atmosphere of the evening! So, there is a lot to consider before you begin choosing your songs. First of all, what is the overall theme or feel of the day that you are going for? Is it soft and romantic, or vibrant and colorful? You should try to match your music with the theme for the day. How are you bringing you and your fiancé’s personality into the day? The music you choose should not only be to entertain your guests, but to also reflect on your personality as a couple. Dance Ballroom & Studio offers fun, private or group dance lessons for the whole wedding party. Learn a simple, choreographed group dance to surprise your guests and rock your reception. Or, take lessons to make your first dance memorable (in a good way)! A few examples of songs:

FIRST DANCE: Everything- Michael Buble In Your Eyes- Peter Gabriel Better Together- Jack Johnson Brighter Than the Sun- Colbie Caillat The Way You Look Tonight- Frank Sinatra At Last- Etta James Marry Me- Train

FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: My Wish- Rascal Flatts Stand By Me- Ben E. King And Then They Do- Trace Adkins Unforgettable- Natalie Cole I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack Isn’t She Lovely- Stevie Wonder

A

fter both first dances have passed you’ll want a song that will get your guests out of their seats and dancing. You can go with some old time classics or spice things up with some fastpaced contemporary styles, whichever suits your tastes best. Here is a list of party songs that are sure to get your guests dancing to their beats:

WEDDING DANCE PARTY SONGS: YMCA – Village People We are Family – Sister Sledge Celebration – Kool and the Gang Shout - Otis Day & The Night Mony Mony - Billy Idol You Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC Just Dance - Lady Gaga Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake Electric Slide - Grandmaster Let’s Get It Started - Black Eyed Peas Old Time Rock & Roll - Bob Seger

Choose Your Y

our Wedding Day Entertainment is extremely important in creating your ultimate day. If your reception is great, your wedding will be remembered as great, just as bad reception entertainment will leave your guests with poor memories. It is important to remember this when setting a proper budget and picking the right entertainer to create an amazing evening. Here’s what you’ll need to keep in mind: Pricing vs. Value: It is important to consider the overall vision you would like to have when you choose an entertainer for your wedding reception. Would you rather have your guests entertained all evening or let the music do the talking? Just remember, you will seldom get the best price, best service, and highest quality from your entertainer. DJ wisely

So, it is important to think about what you want to get out of your entertainer the most. References: Make sure to check with past clients to find out about an entertainment company’s reputation. You can get opinions from other wedding professionals, as well as third party review sites online. Music Selection: Your DJ should know which audio components are the best, and which will provide quality sound for your guests. It is also important to have a back-up plan if something were to fail. DJ Equipment: While you may not know which audio components are the best, your

DJ should. The equipment used will translate directly into the quality of the sound. It is important that your entertainer has quality gear and a back-up plan if something were to fail. The Power of Lighting: Dance floor lighting has long been a staple to most DJ setups to create energy and drama on the dance floor. New trends in lighting include LED technology and up-lighting techniques that coordinate your wedding colors into the dance floor. They are energy efficient and generate almost no heat. These lighting trends are helpful in creating a brand for your entire reception and dance. Consider these tips for booking your perfect reception entertainer today! - Chris Hintz, Pinnacle Productions

TYPES OF FLOWERS THE PERFECT BOUQUET

VanDyke Studios

Flowers for every bride Traditional Flowers: Fresh Blooms

T

Try the "just picked from the garden" look. Fill vases or baskets with loose and playful blooms in fresh colors like pinks, greens, lavenders, whites and yellows. Flowers for the Traditional Bride: peonies, lilacs, daffodils and lilies

Elegant Flowers: Bold and Dramatic

Dramatic, bold colors and seasonal branches are particularly appropriate for the elegant bride. Fall for colors such as reds, yellows, oranges and deep purples that will compliment the color scheme for this kind of bride. Elegant flowers are: calla lilies, chrysanthemums, dahlias and gladiolas

Vintage Flowers: A Pop of Color

V

Vintage bouquets can be vibrant and playful, adding a nice pop of color to your wedding. Splashes of yellow, coral and hot pink blend together nicely and make for the ideal vintage bouquet. Our vintage picks: mimosas, dahlias, daises, hydrangeas and zinnias

Modern Flowers: Modern Design

Don’t feel trapped into traditional colors. Pairing pure white and deep purples compliments modern weddings nicely. Playing up white tones contrasted with non-floral elements like dramatic feathers makes for striking, high style statements. Modern picks: hyacinths, calla lilies and paperwhites

Color blocking

Creative Concepts

J

ust like in fashion, the growing trend of color blocking is becoming very popular in floral arrangements and you will definitely be seeing more of it at weddings. Color blocking is when a color is chosen and different kinds of flowers are picked to match that specific color palette, creating a dramatic grouping effect. The intense concentration of each strategicallyplaced color will draw attention to the flowers while the assorted textures will create depth. Stick to two or three colors, anymore than that and you might end up losing the bold effect. If you like the bold look, use contrasting colors to bring attention to the individual flowers. Contrasting, yet complimentary colors are opposite in the color wheel. But even if they’re opposite, when mixed together these colors pop! For a more delicate look, use similar shades of each color. If you like this look, be sure to ask your local wedding florist to show you suggestions on how to incorporate color blocking into your wedding bouquets and reception centerpieces. - GonnaGetWed.com

The perfect bouquet Y

ou want to ensure that you have made the right choice of bouquet for your wedding day. You want a beautiful bouquet, but also need to be careful that your bouquet does not over-shadow your gown. There are three very important things to consider when selecting a bouquet that is right for you... 1) The style of your wedding gown 2) The size of your body 3) The overall look and mood of your wedding Here are a few kinds of bouquets. Which one is the right one for you??

Nosegays: Consist of round clusters of flowers. They can vary in levels of sophistication making them a good choice for any style of wedding. Cascade Bouquet:

Consist of flowers that come down below the main portion of the bouquet. These bouquets are most often used in traditional and formal weddings.

Hand-Tied Bouquets: Made by wrapping the stems of the flowers, foliage and other accessories in a secure fashion. The stems of the flowers are often wrapped with a simple ribbon and are very elegant and classy. Contemporary

Bouquets: These unconventional styles of bouquets are inspired by designs and patterns with no exact geometric form.

Arm Bouquet: This elegant style of bouquet can be very simple or complex, depending on your preferences, and can be cradled in your arm.

P

hotography is an ever changing industry, driven by what is the most unique and trendy. Everyone is looking for a photographer who is going to give them amazing, breathtaking photos. Every bride will expect a photographer to capture stunning formals, tearjerking candids and the over all feel of the wedding. Photographers are hired for a full day to make sure every detail is captured. Pictures can be a stressful part of a wedding day, so here are a few things that can help ease that stress:

•Do an engagement session with your photographer. This

gives you the chance to get to know each other and get familiar with how each other acts and works. Some couples are much more comfortable kissing in front of camera then others and it helps your photographer to know these things. An engagement session allows a photographer to get some hints into how

they can make their couple feel more relaxed in front of the camera.

• Set up a coffee date the week or two before the wedding with your photographer. This

gives you both a chance to go over how you would like your hours of pictures to go. Your photographer should know what you are expecting as a bride and you will feel much more comfortable if you know just how things will go and how your photographer will run things.

• Have a checklist of formals for the photographer. This

makes sure no one is getting missed, the photos are getting done that the bride has requested and everyone on that list know when they need to be there. This will ensure smooth sailing for photos.

• Keep in contact after the wedding. There are many great

photo opportunities that can be done

after you are married. First year anniversary photos can be a fun way to recap your first year of marriage. Boudoir photography is becoming more popular and can be a fun and creative first year anniversary gift. Of course newborn baby photography can also be something to think about as starting a family could be right around the corner. Your photographer may offer discounts for some of these sessions after photographing your wedding. Your photographer can be one of the most important people you hire for your big day. There are so many different people out there doing photos these days it can be very overwhelming. Asking questions and building a relationship with your photographer can be the best way to feel confident with your decision. - VanDyke Studios, sioux falls, sd

Styles of Photography Y

our wedding photography not only serves as a memory source but also as a way to reflect your own personal style. When it comes to choosing your wedding photographer, be sure your photographer shares your same style. What type of bride are you?

Classic Elegance

You enjoy the more posed, timeless look. Traditional wedding photography consists of mostly portrait posed photographs with the bride and groom, bridal party and the couple’s families. The photographer is really the “director” for your wedding shoot taking time to make sure every detail is in its proper place.

Candid & Carefree

You are a natural, go with the flow bride. Photojournalistic tells a story through the photographs capturing mostly candid moments without intervention. The photographer does not direct and pose individuals. Instead they react to events and create more raw and factual images.

Artsy & Unique

You are unique and edgy and definitely want something a little different. Fine art wedding photography focuses more on creating wall art that can be hung instead of documenting the day. The photographer will take advantage of any dramatic lighting or settings where they can position the bride and groom. This style also incorporates unique angles and unexpected environments as well as different editing effects and image manipulation. All styles of photography have their advantages and disadvantages. You might find that you enjoy several aspects from each style. Work with your photographer before your wedding and make sure they have a clear understanding of what you are wanting. Many photographers overlap in these different styles of photography and will be able to give you exactly what you are dreaming of for your day!

& Videography

Raw Footage This video simply starts whenever you specify and runs uninterrupted. The result is unedited video with no added music or graphics. This is typically the least expensive, and generally done by amateurs. Edited “in-camera” This option also does not offer added graphics. The camera person shuts off the camera at uninteresting moments, and often rewinds and records over boring material. This is moderately priced and is a great option if done by a professional. Post-edited This is the most common and most expensive. It is time consuming because the videographer takes all the footage, cuts out the boring parts, smooths out the transitions in-between scenes and often ads titles & music. Still photos can be added such as baby pictures, other photos from the wedding and reception, and video and pictures from your honeymoon, which can make your video more interesting and give it a truly personal feel. Highlights Some videographers will offer a highlight DVD for an additional fee, which condenses the entire day's events into a short 10-20 minute crisply edited reel set to music. These make great gifts for close family and friends.

Photobooth?

Yes please!

A photo booth provides hours of entertainment! Your guests receive fun party favors and help you create a unique photo strip guestbook you’ll absolutely love! Here are a few ways to get the most out of your photo booth experience…

1. Select a great spot for setup. Location is key for your photo booth to get maximum traffic. Near the dance floor will guarantee fun photo strips all night long. If there is no space there, be sure to keep your photo booth as close to the action as possible. A fairly open space will prevent congestion. 2. Encourage your guests to go through the booth! Remind them that they need to be in your one of a kind photo strip guestbook. They also get a photo strip as a souvenir from your wedding and free downloads for social media. Everyone should be a part of these memories! 3. Remember to have fun! Be as creative

as you want in the photo booth. Use your poses to tell a story! Big expressions, action shots, and hilarious props are just a few things to guarantee you’ll love your photo strips. If you are drawing a blank you can always ask your photo booth attendant for some ideas.

5 things every photo booth rental should include: 1. Quality photos and on-site printing. Photo resolution should be high enough to make larger prints from your free downloads. Instant prints can make great party favors for your guests, as well as a photo strip guestbook for you! 2. No hidden fees. Additional options are great, but pricing should be straightforward. Set up/tear down should be included in the price and outside of your photo booth run time.

Unlimited sessions with 2- 2x6 prints per session should be standard. 3. An attendant should always be present. A photo booth attendant will make sure everything is running smoothly, and they should assemble your photo strip guestbook throughout the night. 4. Custom designed photo strips to fit your wedding. A photo strip template based on your colors and decorations will make your prints a seamless part of the reception. 5. A modern booth design to match any wedding décor! Some photo booths can look cheap and unattractive. Be sure the one you choose is elegant enough to fit your environment! There are many photo booths available; be sure the one you rent has everything! - PicNook Photobooth, Sioux Falls, SD

Advice at a Glance ❤ Scout out your ceremony and reception sites with your photographer before your wedding day to choose the best settings for your formal photographs.

❤ Consider taking formal portraits before the ceremony so you and the wedding party can enjoy the cocktail hour. If you are superstitious and don’t want to take shots with your groom before the ceremony, just take all the formal shots that don’t include him ahead of time.

❤ Serve non-alcoholic drinks and hors d’oeuvres to those who will be posing for pictures prior to arriving at the reception site to keep your bridal party lively for the pictures. Take any photos immediately upon arrival before party members begin drinking or are distracted.

❤ Don’t forget to give the photographer and videographer any special instructions or restrictions by the officiant or the ceremony site ahead of time.

❤ Have your photographer take candid pictures of your parents that you could possibly have framed as gifts for them.

❤ Figure out before the wedding day if you want the videographer to interview your guests.

❤ Ask your photographer for a sample album of an entire wedding he/she shot to get a realistic idea of their ability.

❤ Make sure the photographer/videographer brings extra equipment in case something breaks or malfunctions so you're not left with important moments not photographed or recorded.

❤ Without him knowing, say something special to the groom on tape so he is happily surprised when he sees it. Also consider a special 1 year anniversary message recorded separately for that special night.

❤ The number of photos the photographer guarantees to shoot should be greater than the number you want to include in your album so you have the largest selection possible.

❤ The photographer or videographer you hire should have experience shooting in conditions similar to yours. Be sure to view samples of work done in similar conditions.

❤ The videographer should have a wireless microphone so guests won’t trip over cords.

S

izes of wedding parties continue to grow. This creates an increasing demand for transportation that can handle these types of numbers making limo buses extremely popular. As the size of bridal parties continues to grow, so does the size of the limo bus. It is not uncommon to rent a vehicle that holds 20-30 people or possibly even more. There are multiple uses for different vehicles, not just for bridal parties to get from the ceremony to the reception. Some other uses are using a limo to get from the hotel to the church after the bridal party gets ready. It is also not uncommon for the bride and groom to send a car to bring parents, grandparents and other special guests to the church and reception. The wedding day is just as important to them as it is to the couple so why not make it special for them as well. Another popular use for a limo bus is for a “safe ride” program for guests to get to and from the hotel and reception site. Alcohol is often a big part of the reception celebration, and it is a nice perk for guests to not have to worry about driving following the reception. After the ceremony, guests staying at the hotel can meet in the lobby and take the shuttle directly to the reception. This “safe ride” shuttle is also great for guests who are from another town and may not be familiar or comfortable driving to the different locations on your wedding day. Many bridal parties will choose to rent a limo or bus for their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Often times the limo company you are using for your wedding day transportation will offer some sort of discount or package deal on a vehicle for the bachelors party. - GonnaGetWed.com

accommodations

O

ut-of-town guests coming to your wedding? Offer them hassle-free accommodations by booking a block of rooms through a hotel or bed and breakfast. Not only does this make things easier for you, your out-of-town guests will have less worries, too. They won't have to worry about hotel availability and most hotels will negotiate a group rate, making it easier for guests to afford. Hotels will also try to book your guests in the same area allowing extended family and friends to be together. And, with the amenities offered by most hotels, your guests will feel like they are on vacation. Indoor pools and whirlpools will offer your guests relaxation. A hotel shuttle can ease guests' transportation worries. A complimentary breakfast will eliminate meal-time worries and will be easier on your guests' wallets. Lastly an on-site fitness center offers your health-minded guests an exercise option and in-room payper-view movies can provide hours of entertainment for all ages. Base the number of rooms in your block on your preliminary RSVP count. Once your block is in place, let your guests know what hotel or bed and breakfast to contact and what name the room block is under. Also inform your guests as to how long they have to book the rooms. Adding a personal touch to your out-of-town guests' accommodations will make your guests feel appreciated. Some ideas to consider are gift baskets, hand-written notes or area information packets. Most hotels will work with you to have the gifts in the guests rooms or front desk staff can hand them out as guests check-in. Celebrate your wedding guests as they celebrate your wedding!

DESTINATION WEDDINGS HONEYMOON PLANNING

Honeymoon Planning your

T

You may even get a better deal if you go through a travel agent as opposed to planning everything yourselves.

Prior to choosing a destination, budget accordingly. It is important to not only plan for expected costs but unexpected expenditures as well. Consider transportation and lodging first, but be sure to budget for meals, transfers, souvenirs, sight-seeing, excursions, tips, taxes, etc. Don’t go into debt to finance your honeymoon. There are a wide variety of trips you can take that won’t break your bank.

This should be a once in a lifetime event for the two of you, so plan wisely. Make your reservations early to increase your chances of getting exactly what you want. If plans change, you’ll have plenty of time to make alternate arrangements. Don’t forget to give yourself enough time to apply for a passport. This can take up to eight weeks to obtain so prioritize this at the top of your list if you’re traveling abroad. Consider making a list of what you’ll need to accomplish prior to your departure. This includes everything from making sure you’re up to date on any vaccinations you might need to contacting a kennel to board your pet while you're away.

o create an experience you and your new spouse will never forget, plan your honeymoon together. This includes researching, possibly meeting with a travel agent and even making the reservations as a couple. The most important factor is that you’re both in agreement. Choose a locale you’re both comfortable with and that you’ll look back on fondly for years to come.

144

It’s not every day that you and your honey get to stroll the beaches of Mexico or visit the awe-inspiring museums in Europe, so don’t be afraid to splurge. Take advantage of all the great extras that may be offered to you: sunset sails, massage packages and extravagant meals. Whatever the indulgence, enjoy it! Pamper yourselves and you’ll be sure to have the time of your life. For inspiration, travel brochures and magazines offer information on popular and exotic honeymoon spots. Find the best times to travel to these locations and where to go while you’re there.

Destination weddings are becoming more popular. Planning a wedding and honeymoon combo is easier than planning the two events separately. With only one location to scout and reserve, and resort coordinators to aide in your final preparations, your work is minimized. When planning your celebration, look at the honeymoon destination first because many allinclusive resorts offer a wedding ceremony. Be aware that all countries have different legal requirements for getting married, including residence or medical requirements. Typically, destination weddings cost less than having a traditional wedding. On average, most couples spend under $10,000 to get married in the sun and sands of paradise. When figuring your wedding budget, the honeymoon accounts for approximately 14% of the total wedding costs. By combining the two into a destination wedding, you can save money, while creating a memorable event. The great thing about destination weddings is that you have a week or weekend of fun activities with your friends and family. As much as you are looking forward to seeing them, take some time for yourself. To avoid being exhausted on your wedding day, plan your ceremony a day or two after you arrive at your destination. Then to recover from all the fun and activities, plan to stay several days after everyone else has departed. For the extra relaxation, book a spa treatment for the two of you and just relax. After all, this special occasion is all about the two of you!

Destination, your wedding

I

f you haven’t attended a destination wedding yet, you probably know someone who has. What’s the attraction of being married far from home? Well, there are a few attributes that make a destination wedding an excellent choice for a growing number of couples. Not least among these is the feeling that you’re stealing away from your daily life for a romantic ceremony in an exotic location – something that only celebrities used to do. The practical advantages of a destination wedding include the fact

give your guests a fun opportunity for a brief or extended vacation, while you and your beloved get right to the honeymoon.

followed by a beach honeymoon. Jamaica’s white-sand beaches and reggae beats make it another very popular choice.

When planning a destination wedding, it’s important to work with a travel professional, who can negotiate the best prices for you and your guests, coordinate everyone’s flight schedules, and help you decide where exactly to tie the knot, whether it’s on a beach, at the top of a ski slope, or in a Medieval garden. Your travel professional can also help you arrange for a qualified officiant and check on any residency or license requirements at your destination.

If you want or need to stay a bit closer to home but still desire an exciting destination wedding, look no further than Orlando’s Disney World, which offers a variety of wedding packages; the Grand Canyon, where spectacular Shoshone Point or Grandeur Point can be reserved for weddings; or the ice field of a glacier in Juneau, Alaska (the bride may wish to wear something other than white so as not to blend in).

With a destination wedding, your most difficult task may be deciding where to go. Depending on your budget, you might consider the jawdropping beauty of Tahiti, a true South Pacific paradise; Italy’s scenic Amalfi Coast; or one of the quiet outer islands of the Bahamas. One of the most popular wedding destinations for U.S. couples is Mexico, where either the Gulf or Pacific Coast is perfect for a lovely ceremony

MORTGAGE MYTHS...

CONGRATULATIONS You’re ready to start your new life together!

Mortgage Myth #1 – My credit score suffers when I shop for a mortgage. Inquiries into your credit can affect your score. Your credit score can have an impact on which programs you qualify for and what rate you receive. However, if several lenders pull credit within a short period of time, it should not affect your score. If you go to a lender every week for a month or two, then yes, your score may take a hit. If you are going to shop for a mortgage, do it by applying at all the lenders in the same week, if possible, to avoid issues that can affect your qualifying rate and terms. Mortgage Myth #2 – A 30-Year Fixed Rate Mortgage is the way to go. Rates on fixed rate loans are historically low. But the consumer has many options including 10-year, 15-year, 20-year or even a 25-year fixed rate loan. Rates usually improve the shorter the term of the loan. Also, Adjustable Rate Mortgages are at historic lows as well and for the right situation, can save the borrower thousands in interest. Talking to a mortgage lender will help you determine what loan structure fits your financial needs. Mortgage Myth #3 – I will have mortgage insurance on my loan forever. If you have a loan that requires mortgage insurance, it will eventually fall off. For example, FHA loans drop the insurance when your loan balance reaches 78% of the original value of the home at the time of financing. Conventional loans will also remove your mortgage insurance at the 78% mark. You can always request it be removed early if you think your home has appreciated enough, but might have to do an appraisal to support the value. Mortgage insurance is a great tool to help you get in to a home, but it won’t be required forever. Under some circumstances, it's even tax deductible.

Getting into the right home is easier with the right mortgage. The best place to start is with one of the market’s most experienced mortgage teams. You’ll be surprised at how fast and simple the loan process can be if it’s done right. Before you know it, you’ll have a mortgage that fits your lifestyle and a great new home to go with it. Give us a call. We’ll get it done!

Mortgage Myth #4 – Banks aren’t lending, it's hard and takes too long get approved. While it is true that state income programs have disappeared, people who make their payments and can show their income, can and will get a loan. Some programs have increased their minimum credit score requirements to 620 or higher. If your credit score is under that, start working on it now! One or two 30-day late payments will not normally affect your approval but it may affect the interest rate you qualify for. When you go to the appointment with your mortgage lender, bring your most recent two years of income tax returns, current pay stubs and current bank statements. If you have all the supporting documentation, your lender should be able to tell you what you are approved for that same day, or shortly thereafter. - Nichoelle Waldner First Bank & Trust, Sioux Falls, SD
