adscensio INDUCTION 2019 ISSUE

On behalf of the Induction Psycle Team, I am happy to present to you the 2019 Induction Psycle, Adscensio. We’ve come so far, BOPS 18, and I am so proud of how much we have grown as individuals and as a batch. We chose the Olympic aesthetic because it represented our “Just Do It” attitude during the app process. We took the leap of faith, and we climbed every possible obstacle, and we made it. I am proud of every single one of my co-BOPS for reigniting the passion through each and every circumstances and obstacle. It is not without them that this Psycle would not be possible. For every single page in this yearbook, your inspirations, hopes and dream, not only for the present and the past, but for the future BOPS that will read this Psycle, we give to you what has sparked our flame.

Cyril Jude Cornelio Editor-in-Chief

Hello, BOPS 18! Honestly, I was going to make a this message long and inspiring but I scrapped my first draft cause I wanted it to be short and sweet instead (and para basahin niyo naman LOL). So here goes. You made it, BOPS 18! I know the app process wasn’t easy, but you got through it. The app process takes a lot of commitment and even courage, so I hope you’re proud of yourself! I personally wanted to thank you for trusting PsychSoc and the POPS throughout your journey so far. Thank you for trusting us when we kept telling you that it was worth it. Now, I know that Induction feels like the finish line cause it’s the end of the app process, but I guarantee you that it’s only the beginning. There are so many opportunities waiting for you in this org—you just have to grab them. Don’t doubt yourself, cause the fact that you are where you are now is indicative of how great you are, and how much people believe in you. Lastly, as you go on your journey as a POPS, always keep in mind why you joined and stayed in the org in the first place. It may change and evolve, but it’s always good to look back where you started. Anyway, congrats, BOPS 18! I’ll always be rooting for you guys. Keep the IDAFPS spirit burning! Best, Nonot Nacionales President UP Psychology Society

Dear BOPS 18, This is it! No more "konti nalang" and "malapit na" because you guys are finally on your last step to becoming POPS. When I ran for VP, I felt pressured from all the expectations and afraid of all the challenges that I could face. Despite this, I took on the role and did the best that I could to guide a batch of people who were all passionate about UP PsychSoc. Now that you guys are in the last step of the process, I'm really proud of how much you've improved and came out of your comfort zones. All the problems and stress that I had to go through doesn't seem as important as the fulfillment that I feel after being blessed with a hardworking, passionate, and (medyo) wholesome set of BOPS. I won't deny the fact that the PsychSoc app process is hard but for sure, you all did your best and look where it got you! I hope that you also see how much you've grown and that you're proud of what you've accomplished. Thank you for all your initiatives and for going the extra mile in times when they're not expected from you . I can assure you that all your efforts are appreciated and were not wasted. For now, it's time to make more memories and face new challenges as POPS. I hope you keep that passion burning inside of you and that you enjoy every minute of being a part of UP PsychSoc. Congratulations on a job well done and I can't wait to see you continue to practice the spirit of IDAFPS. Gabby Paras Vice-President for Mebership UP Psychology Society

As I look back on what has happened these past few months, I can’t help but get this sudden swell of gratitude for every single one of BOPS 18. They’ve taught me to trust in people and their capabilities. They’ve taught me to go outside my comfort zone and explore new possibilities. They’ve taught me to enjoy the company of others and treasure those sweet little moments whenever we get together. No matter what, this batch will always have a special place in my heart and for that, I am humbled and I am grateful. I LOVE YOU BOPS 18! MIGUEL LONGNO, Batch Head

BOPS 2018, what can I say? The past few months have been the busiest, most tiring, and challenging months of my life -- and yet, they led me to you guys. I couldn’t be happier that this app process brought us together because at the end of it all, I can proudly say that I’ve found a friend in each one of you. I hope that even as we become full-fledged POPS, our experiences during the app process inspire us to never lose sight of our passions. I’m sure we’ll do great things together. Thank you, BOPS 2018! It’s been good. NINA GARCIA, Batch Assistant Head

Hi BOPS ‘18! Thank you so much for giving me the chance to serve you all as your Assistant Batch Head. :) Despite the occasionally stressful duties, I’m really grateful because I had the chance to get to know all of you better, and at the same time, help you out with the app process in however small ways. Thank you for trusting me with that—your faith in me gave me courage and helped me to believe in myself as much as I believe in each of you. You’ve all been inspirations to me. I’m so lucky to have witnessed your talents, your hard work and dedication, your passions—all of which inspire me to excel and give the world my best as well, because there’s a future we still have to create together. It’s been fun, BOPS, but it’s only the beginning! I look forward to everything that lies ahead. We’ll always be in this together.

AYEL RAMIREZ, Batch Assistant Head

As I reminisce about the app process. a mix of memories pop up into my head. Surely, I’ll never forget the stupidest of things our batch did like recreating vines, eating lemons, and essentially becoming living memes. But I’ll also never forget the intense planning we did for events, stressing over funds, logistics, pubmats, and practice. In the end, it’s that exact mix of crazy and serious that made the process so much fun. More importantly though, it’s the fact that I got to do it with such an amazing group of people that made it truly meaningful. My dudess!! JAVI BAQUIRAN, Batch Treasurer

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

I rediscovered my passion in PsychSoc through the help of my co-BOPS as we fought and struggled together during the app process and it reminded me to put myself out there and treasure bonds created by similar struggles.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

Always be in your A-game. Your co-BOPS and future co-POPS need you more than you know.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

There are a few names that I can call MVP as they really exerted effort during the app process but MY MVP is definitely Hillary as she was the one who convinced me to stick around and helped me out at my lowest points during the app process.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC? “Just Do It” moment? Definitely Miss Apps.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

I rediscovered my passion in PsychSoc by witnessing the org’s goals materialize into initiatives and projects which I find worthwhile and relevant. This passion was further solidified when I realized that through this org, I can be given the opportunity to give back and be part of something bigger than myself.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

Becoming a POPS is no easy climb — there would be moments the finish line may seem too high at top to reach, but always remember to look around you because you’ll find batchmates who will help lift you up, and hand-in-hand, you’ll find yourselves at the peak — enjoying the view altogether.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

Passion is best brought out by a good challenge, and that’s what I found in PsychSoc. I was challenged to step up as a leader, to get out of my comfort zone, and to learn more about the org and myself. And with all that comes passion that only continues to intensify.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER? You can’t do it alone! PsychSoc thrives because it is a COMMUNITY of people at its heart, and that begins with the app process. Trust others (co-BOPS and POPS) and find comfort in knowing that you can share such a unique experience with others.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

Going into university I told myself not to be in a hurry to get involved with any orgs or volunteer for leadership positions. I didn’t want my college life to be as busy as my high school life was. But seeing the POPS talk so passionately about Psychsoc reminded me that I am most fulfilled when I am serving others, and I couldn’t wait to start doing that.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

Try to see the meaning behind each step of the app process. Understanding what you’ve gone through will help you appreciate and value your place in the society when you become a POPS.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

It has to be Ayel. She really tried to make sure no BOPS was left behind throughout the app process and she was an amazing applicant in her own right, giving all she had to every task.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

Hosting the Akwe. It was really scary because it was at the start of the app process and I didn’t really know the BOPS or POPS that well yet. But it turned out okay I think :)

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

PsychSoc challenged me and taught me that there’s so much more I can do and become. I went beyond my comfort zone, took on leadership positions, volunteered for events, and realized that through this org, I can impact the world around me in even more meaningful ways.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER? Hold on to your whys, especially when it gets tiring. You’ll make it! Do your best and use the app process as a chance to grow. :)

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

My MVP during the app process was my buddy, Iris Malong. She was one of the best people I met in PsychSoc who never left and never gave up on me when things got really hard. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

My biggest “Just Do It” moment in PsychSoc was during the sig-getting when I had to approach people that I didn’t know. It was really hard for me as an introvert and a naturally shy-type. In the end, I just did it and now, I am very glad to have gained a lot of amazing friends in the org.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC? The POPS were very welcoming and made us feel part of the PsychSoc family pretty much immediately.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

I honestly felt like giving up multiple times in the start of the app process. However, interacting with the BOPS and POPS, just having fun, and knowing more about them has made me want to really join. Meeting all these wonderful people made me rediscover my passion in PsychSoc.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

Don’t be afraid, because you have your fellow BOPS and POPS to depend on. You really need to ask yourself what you want to do, and how much you want it. Find something that can be the driving force to guide you thoughout the app process.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

My MVP during the app process is Javi because being a treasurer is no joke. He really stepped up to the plate and delivered. Without him and his being responsible and hardworking, I don’t know how BOPS 18 would survive.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

It was when I was making pub mats for BNPN, and being a non-pub person I didn’t really know what to do. But yeah, I just had to do it, do my best, and try to have fun. I think I did okay haha

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

For me, I was able to rediscover my passion because of the people. The org is like one big family and seeing the members dedicate so much of their time, passion, and effort is a constant source of inspiration for me to do my best.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

There’s a saying that goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” and I think that really captures the app process. I honestly wouldn’t have made it if not for my BOPS batch and for all of the POPS and VOPS who helped me along the way, and I’m extremely grateful for them. Always have an open mind and heart, and you’ll be ready for anything!

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

I’d definitely say Adry, because she was super helpful (not just to me but to everyone!) throughout the entire app process! She has always worked so hard and just seeing her passion and drive for the org made me want to push myself that much harder. I’m glad we were able to get through the app process and become members of the org together :)

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

Personally, it was the Culminating Activity! I felt like a fish out of water (which is ironic, because they put us in a pool) and it was scary because I didn’t know what to expect. However, I pushed through and survived, and at the end of the day, it was honestly really fun and fulfilling!

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

The app process in PsychSoc allowed me to test my limits. Since I often found myself going back and forth between proceeding and deferring, I learned how to convince myself that the things that are worth it are the things that make you work a little harder. After everything, I turned out as someone empowered, strengthened, and renewed in passion.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER? It’s going to be a tough road ahead, but you’ve got to keep remembering why you’re doing this. So just push a little more, and you’d be surprised how far you’ve already taken yourself.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

My MVP during the app process was definitely Sia Ramos, my buddy. Even when she seems really busy, she always makes time to support me and to help me step out of my comfort zone for the org. On top of that, she’s just a really great person who’s fun to have around.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

For me, it was mainly because I became the deputy for SpEv. Becoming a deputy really helped me see the reason I apped for PsychSoc in the first place because it allowed me to see the dedication, work ethic, and teamwork that the members had and how they used it in completing their objectives. Seeing the members in action really reignited my love for the org and the people in the org, and encouraged me to give my best at the position and job given to me.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

All I can say is that you should just try your hardest. The app process is one of the most difficult in UP Diliman, so don’t feel bad if you find it difficult. Everything you do will mean something in the end, so just keep pushing until you get there because it will all be worth it.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

All my app batchmates were extremely helpful during the app process, both to me and to their fellow batchmates, but I have to give the honors to my fellow batch officers: Jiggy Lopez, Paola Tan, and Job Ibañez. They really stood up and were able to do much more than what was required of them, especially when I wasn’t able to do my job. Without their constant support and motivation, I could not have seen myself getting through the app process. I also would never have gotten through the app process with out my buddy Rommel Araga! He definitely pushed me to be the best app I could have been, and without him I probably would have never made it past first deliberations.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

Not being a very active person on social media, I was terrified of posting online sigreqs, especially the more “gago” ones. It got to a point where I was so behind on the sigsheet that I ended up posting most of my online sigreqs at the same time and very late at night to avoid people seeing them, but after I realized that I should’ve just posted them without any hesitation instead. Now, I really missed out on the fun my other batchmates had making and posting their online sigreqs without having to worry about their sigsheet.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

I rediscovered my passion in PsychSoc by really getting to know the people in it. I feel like kasi when you love or admire the people you work with, it starts feeling less and less like work and more like fun.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER? you miss 100% of the shots you don’t make so you know HAHAHA there’s no harm in trying naman and it’s super worth it in the end!!

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

I think my friends in general were my MVPs kasi sila talaga yung nag-encourage sa akin to continue even though (at that time) i was super struggling!!

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

PAT

Capuyan, Patricia Antonette Garcia I - BS PSYCHOLOGY Academic Affairs Applicant HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

Knowing more about PsychSoc as a BOPS made me wanted to also do what they do. Aside from that, I saw that the POPS were really dedicated in their respective projects and always support one another.

What advice would you give to future BOPS who also want a spot on PsychSoc’s roster?

Be sure that you want to enter this org! The app process takes a whole sem and it takes a lot of hard work so make sure that you take it seriously and be passionate. After everything, it would all be worth it. WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY? My MVPs would be the batch officers! They were very responsible in their duties as officers while also being good when in comes to the app process itself. Shoutout to Longno, Ayel, Nina, Hillary, and Javi! WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC? When I was getting sigs! At first, I was really anxious about it and shy when approaching people but that time made me knew about them and the org better!! Overall, it’s just me being renewed in passion. IDAFPS!

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

PsychSoc pushed me to the limits and made me go beyond what is expected of me. Through that, I was able to see my real potential, and as I had banked on that, I realized my passion and love for PsychSoc.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER? Take the leap. Trust the process, and you will get there.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

Gabby Paras is the ultimate MVP of the app process. Without her, I wouldn’t have had the chance to experience an adventure of a lifetime.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC? When I posted all of the sigreqs (embarassing videos) on FB and knowing my whole clan and all my friends will see it.

HOW DID YOU REDISCOVER YOUR PASSION IN PSYCHSOC?

I think an integral part of who I am is that I don’t give up on anything I set myself to do. Looking back, there were times that I thought PsychSoc was not for me; it felt like I didn’t have any purpose in doing what I did. However, all I had to do was look at the happy POPS, as well as the Society’s meaningful projects and advocacies; then everything usually fell back into place.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BOPS WHO ALSO WANT A SPOT ON PSYCHSOC’S ROSTER?

Whenever you feel that you’re lost during the application process, you’re never alone. You have your BOPS batchmates, your buddy, the POPS, and of course, me! You’ll be surprised how, more likely than not, we went through the exact same things you’re going through right now.

WHO WAS YOUR MVP DURING THE APP PROCESS AND WHY?

MY MVP WAS BUDDY MOTY OLAIVAR!! He helped me with everything throughout the app process and always gave me advice. I wouldn’t have made it through without his constant support (thanks, buds!).

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST “JUST DO IT” MOMENT IN PSYCHSOC?

My biggest “Just Do it” moment was actually everytime I was about to upload an embarrassing video of myself on FB for a specific Sig req. Behind every video that you saw of me, there was a constant internal debate on whether the public embarrassment was worth that single letter on the sigsheet (btw yeah it was!!). After posting the video, I immediately shut off my phone for a few hours HAHAHA becuase I couldn’t really face what I did; in the end, it was all worth it though!
