The main road is directly connected to the site, and the bridge leading to outer city is just nearby. Riverside park and residential area introduce visitors coming.
Residential Area
Ningbo is a coastal city which has a long history of navigation for 2000 years. To reserve the documents and display for public, Ningbo city government plan to build a museum along Yuyao river. ao
With the development of Jiangbei district, the villages and farmlands will be replaced by highrise buildings in the coming two years, bringing more people living here. This museum will become as a new attraction in this area, offering a leisure place along with riverside parks.

Site Analysis
Project year:November,2010-Janurary,2011 (Year 3) Project type:public building design Tutor:Haiyan Tao Partner:None
Site
Ningbo City has a population of 6 million but just 2 public libraries. NBUT west campus library has a history of 25 years which is no longer suitable for large amounts of students. So rebuilding a new school library that not only offer a reading place for pupils but also for the inhabitants.
Transportation
The main road cutting through the campus from north to south is just situated west next to the site. A pathway leading to east gate is behind the site. And the square to the south is an approaching way to the south gate and the juction of Houhe alley and main road of campus.

The teaching buildings are surrounding with the central square. Most of the buildings are south facing and about 6 stories high except the old library which will be rebuilt is 14 stories. And there are some bungalows scattered all over the campus.
The library is in the city center, so it may confront with different environment around itself. Southward mainly are restaurants, so it may come into some uncomfortable smell.Eastwards is residential area with some small retails. The library can be a Landmark of there because spot 3 is a crossing that have no hindrance of viewing the library.
Section West to East Site
N The site situates in the south part of NBUT west campus. South to the south gate square and north connects to the garden between engineering school and computer building. Next to the east side of site is administrative building which will be moved to east campus in the future and west to the site is main road from north to south.

Site Plan Using elevators to connect the two buildings is also the concept of connection. Standing on the elevator, people can get a whole view of the school and the wind can blow through east to west. Then there appears a square between the two buildings, and it can be used as a outdoor lecture hall.
Sustainable measurements have been used in deisgn. For example, skylights offer sunlight with automatic curtains controling the amount of optical radiation while the shaing of plates play as a obstacle of direct sunlight. Window can be opened in summer days for cooling and warm air will rise through atrium at the same time.
Patio Detail
Growing plants on terrace on south side can cooling down the temperature and also purify the interior air. The patio gives students more places for reading with comfortable atomsphere. Wood floor reduce the noise making by walking and glass railing allows sunlight going through.

Limit Size Flat Project year:Nov.,2010-Jan.,2011 (Year 3) Project type:architecture&Interior design Tutor:Chaoying Lau Partner:Yi Huang In China, if young people want to get married, they must have their own houses. The comparation of house price and income of a Chinese city shows that we have to work for 20 years to buy a flat. In order to change the ant-clan society and also to renew the old houses in around the city, the idea of making a new type of flat came up in my mind. So our team have taken steps to investigate the current situation and the limit size flat idea come to my mind.
Application The apartment can be combined together and built up in a single building. No matter how high it is, low-rise multi-layer high-rise or even super highrise. This is the most advantage of it. So it is flexible and can be built in anyplace. It solves the house problem with a large scale of population. In the next work, I put it in the city renewal project.

The house is designed for youth, so the decoration must be vibrant and stylish. Inspired by Claude Monet's Impressionism, the colourful idea was uesd to adorn the apartment. Materials choosed are natural, for example, california pine is used for floor and particleboard for furniture.

For Londoners, approaching more sunlight is necessary. Taking the private gardens and external cladding walls as elements, reshaping and composing them with different methods to test the effects of visual feeling through digital and physical model, sunlight period and sunlight time length.
Four ideas were tested and resulted in crowding, boring and too high for cityscape with building the end, terrace and courtyard. The best idea is Hutong with comfortable density and medium height. After site analysis, a road cutting through the site from west to east is needed and divided the site into two areas.

Site Analysis Function
All the three new buildings are mixed with commercial function. The new shell tower also introduces galery and conference and training centre. Three sky plaza are built to connect all the buildings.
Transportation
The proposed design keeps the sky link between Waterloo Station and the site to the car park. Two new underground entrance allow people to approach the site directly.
Entrance
The entrance of different function are seperated (Fig. 3.3). The main entrance of commercial part are facing to the cite road.
Massing Test At the early stage of site plan design, daylight study and shadow study were made to decide the building areas, new building numbers and building form (Fig. 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8). We made the study seperated with different building area (50000sqm,100000sqm, 150000sqm and 200000sqm) caculating the daylight time on March 21th and June 22th, making draft model to test massing form.
The 150000sqm density was found to be the most appropriate one for this site, which won’t make the site too crowded while could satisfy different functions. The massing test suggested to creat the centre plaza to get more daylight inside the site.

The prevailing wind direction in London is southwest 30째. After testing the wind flowing, our clouster can have a comfortable fresh air flowing in summer and block winter wind form north. While the corner of new shell accept the strongest wind of site, we designed some windturbines to generate energy for the office building.
The atrium in new shell tower is a place for leisure activities, after tested two options shift the location of lower and higher buildings showed that higher building on south is better than north.
