From the Desk of Ralph H. Doering PO Box 215, Wiscasset, Maine 04578
December, 2017 Dear Wiscasset neighbor, Earlier this year, my family commissioned a comprehensive traffic study to peer review the information presented to Wiscasset residents by the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT.) We felt we had no choice but to invest in an independent analysis, after a citizen advisory vote in 2016. Immediately after that vote, and without first consulting our Town leaders, MDOT maneuvered to cancel the use of federal funds for the so-called “Downtown Improvement Project.” If you recall, the promise that the federal government would pay for 80% of the $5 million in project costs was perhaps MDOT’s #1 selling point leading up to that first referendum. The traffic engineer that the Doering family hired made some startling discoveries about other things MDOT has been telling the Town. We have offered more than once to present these findings to the Board of Selectmen, but that has not come to pass. Therefore, we have arranged to present the traffic engineer’s conclusions directly to the people of Wiscasset, and I would like to personally invite you to attend this event. Rick Chellman, Principal, TND Engineering Presentation, Wiscasset Traffic Investigation Results 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12th, 2017 Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Road
If you are curious about an analysis of Wiscasset traffic performed by a certified expert other than one hired by MDOT, please feel free to attend. In my opinion, you may find his conclusions illuminating. And, as the Town of Wiscasset wrestles with making wise decisions in regard to MDOT’s Route 1 proposal, it is obviously much better to have more information available for all interested parties to review, rather than less. That is true regardless of what decisions ultimately get made. Mr. Chellman’s credentials are impressive. If you would like to review his experience before the meeting on December 12th, visit www.tndengineering.com/rick-chellman. Sincerely,
Ralph H. Doering, III
