FOUR QUARTERS, GREEN GATES
hite Crane put up a powerful performance to add their name to one of the most unusual trophies played for at Guards Polo Club each season. Alexie Calvert-Ansari’s team won the mighty Coworth Park Challenge Trophy on the penultimate day of May, defeating James McCarthy’s Emlor Black 6-5. Played on the fabulous grounds at Coworth Park in warm sunshine, this fast-paced 15-goal competition always delivers great polo and the 2021 competition did not disappoint. Juan Gris Zavaleta, White Crane’s number four, received the Images of Polo Best Playing Pony prize for Penal Cruzada, although all the players received lovely gifts from Zoe Jenkins, the General Manager at Coworth Park. Also home to the Guards Polo Academy, Coworth Park is the country house hotel of the Dorchester Collection group of hotels. Eight strong teams had entered this 15-goal contest and the sub final was equally tight. Four Quarters, winners of the main title in 2020, took the subsidiary final this time around. Like the main trophy winners, they also won on a 6-5 scoreline, beating Noor Khadra’s Green Gates. ✸
