As a second-generation Islander, here are a few of my personal favorites for experiencing Turks and Caicos beyond the obvious. If you’re ready to experience the islands like a local, start with these hidden gems.
You won’t regret it.
While Grace Bay Beach deserves every bit of its fame, there’s something special about the quieter stretches of sand. Sapodilla Bay, on the southern side of Providenciales, is a personal favorite. The shallow, glassy waters are perfect for paddleboarding or simply floating without a care. If you’re looking for even more solitude, Half Moon Bay is the place to be. This untouched gem, tucked between Water Cay and Little Water Cay, is accessible only by boat. It’s where I go to unplug – just me, the turquoise water, and the softest white sand you’ll ever step foot on.

Turks and Caicos is home to incredible dining, but I always gravitate toward places that combine amazing food with a real sense of place. One of my musts is the Thursday Night Fish Fry in Bight Park. The Island Fish Fry occurs every Thursday from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm at PTV Stubbs Diamond Plaza. It’s not just a meal—it’s an experience. The smell of fresh seafood, the sound of steel drums, and the energy of locals and visitors coming together make it unforgettable.
For a more intimate option, I recommend booking a private beach dinner with Chef Nik, the man behind the acclaimed Crackpot Kitchen His fresh, local dishes—think grilled lobster and conch ceviche—are the perfect way to savor the island’s flavors. If you’re in the mood for something more casual, Cocovan is always a hit. Dining under the stars, with small plates like Classic Poutine and Fish Tacos served from a vintage Airstream, feels effortlessly cool and uniquely Turks.
The underwater world here is just as beautiful as the beaches, and some of the best spots aren’t the most obvious. Smith’s Reef, near Turtle Cove Marina, is one of my go-to places. It is teeming with marine life like sea turtles and vibrant schools of fish and it feels like your own private aquarium. For an even quieter experience, I suggest Malcolm’s Road Beach It’s a bit of a trek, but once you’re there, you’ll feel like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden treasure. The coral formations are incredible, and there’s a good chance you’ll have the place all to yourself.
