01 CHANGE THE SHAPE OF MOVEMENT

One of the ways in which each of us in our daily lives can contribute to the environmental protection is undoubtedly through mobility. Millions of vehicles move through our streets every day, producing Co2 and smog which have an impact not only on the environment, but also on the which is the health of citizens (especially in large metropolises). However, steps are being taken with a strong market push toward the electric conversion of the vehicles we normally use to move from one place to another, employed sometimes even on routes short, where it would not even be necessary. This is where we can make a difference in our own small way by moving by foot or bicycle, so that we can lend a hand not only to ourselves but also to the environment.

Always careful to synergies with the territory, Banfi promotes activities of various kinds in the territory, including the Eroica in Montalcino and Brunello Crossing, both activities that invite to enjoy nature in an immersive and sustainable way, reducing as much as possible the movements with motor vehicles in these lands, thus preserving their biodiversity and uncontamination.

The support for a new way of moving, passes not only from supporting manifestations such as those above, but also from the introduction, when possible, of electric vehicles within the company: for example, the electric golf carts used within the Banfi hospitality hub and the van, also electric, available for operations outside the structure

02 EVERY SHAPES OF WATER

Water is synonymous of life. Without it, nothing that is present on our planet would be possible. As a vital commodity it should be used with common sense by limiting its waste or by diversifying its uses in the various fields in which it is employed, starting from food up to the energetic and functional use that it can offer in the work environment, but not only.

In order to ensure a more sustainable consumption of water, thus limiting the withdrawals from the Orcia and Ombrone rivers and cope with possible water crises in particularly dry years, Banfi has equipped itself with an important system of interconnected reservoirs (lakes and rainwater collection tanks) arranged in the Montalcino area. The total capacity of the reservoirs is about 605,500 m3.

Also with a view to containing consumption and reducing environmental impact, Banfi has been equipped since the beginning of its activity, with a biological water purification plant, capable of bonifying the water used in the winery and in the production process and thus releasing it to the ecosystem through the discharge into the Orcia River.

Moreover, in 2019, a new plant for the treatment and recovery of water coming out of the purification plant came into operation, which, through an ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis system, allows its reuse for irrigation of parks, gardens, and for the technological uses of the winery. This system allows to reduce water consumption, enabling its reuse.

wo combinations of our most representative labels dedicated to supporting the commitment of Differenza Donna ONG, a women's association founded in Rome in 1989 with the mission of bringing to light, opposing, preventing gender-based violence and all the social problems that affect women's lives, spreading a gender culture in Italy and around the world that supports women's rights and promotes a democratic and participatory society.

As a focus of political thought, the association identifies, as a strategic tool, the Anti-Violence Centres, which it designs and implements as places to propel a new culture, as places of protection, enhancement, life redesign and rebirth for the women who live in them and for all those who turn to them for support in times of great difficulty.

Among the projects launched by the association is the LA CASA DI DIFFERENZA DONNA project, implemented in a building removed from crime and assigned to Differenza Donna by the Court of Rome in order to regenerate utility and social value in support of the freedom of women, their sons and daughters. The intervention stems from the need to ensure the emergence, exit from violence and empowerment of women who, through the project, can receive guidance and support for real access to rights. With this in mind, Differenza Donna's specialised operators are ready to welcome women in an atmosphere of trust and to listen to them in structured interviews, without judgement and from a gender perspective.

Today more than ever, we know that enhancing reception and support interventions for women and their children is the strategy for possible change in a society that we all want to be more just, inclusive and open to women's aspirations.

03 GIVING A NEW SHAPE

Recycling is perhaps the first thing that comes to everyone's mind when we talk about sustainability. After all, by now, after years of raising awareness, good practices such as recycling have become the norm. Throwing what has already been used into the appropriate compartment, however, is not the only way to be able to recycle something, but with a little ingenuity and creativity, you can give those items that could be considered as waste, a second life thanks to a new use.

BANFI POINT OF VIEW

In addition to the use of cardboard packaging, glass bottles and labels, composed mainly of recycled material, Banfi is committed to giving a second life to as many of the materials used in the company as possible.

With this in mind, for example, the barriques used in the cellar for the aging of Banfi wines, once they have reached the end of their use, are used to make objects of various kinds, such as planters, chandeliers etc.. which are then displayed within the company walls. Even the especial wooden chests, are always thought of considering a possible second use by the consumer: lids that turn into cutting boards, works of art to hang etc…

Another hand we can lend to the environment is to repopulate it. In what way, however? By planting flowers and plants that help the environment come back to life and create biodiversity, thanks in part to the bees that contribute by pollinating to trigger a virtuous circle of life and well-being.

POINT OF VIEW

In order to preserve and protect the vast biodiversity of the area, especially the plant biodiversity, Banfi is committed to safeguarding bees, through the installation of forty beehives with which to sustain the presence of this very important pollinating insect. In fact, the presence of bees is a strong indicator of the healthiness of an ecosystem, and their protection is a fundamental tool to ensure the preservation of a wide range of crops and plants over time.

HEALTHY SHAPE OF TASTE

When people think about sustainability in the kitchen, they often focus their attention "only" on how to avoid food waste. It is good to know, however, that there is more that can contribute to having a smaller impact on the environment, namely the choice of ingredients. Respecting the natural cycle and seasonality of foods is indeed essential, especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables, so as not to upset the environmental and physiological balances of humans. At same way, the consumption of local products also turns out to be fundamental, thanks to which it is possible to significantly reduce the costs of production and the emission of greenhouse gases.

BANFI POINT OF VIEW

In Banfi's hospitality hub, the catering department pays attention to the quality and origin of the ingredients used. The suppliers, in fact, are mainly from the territory of Montalcino and the surrounding area and are also selected depending on the sustainable practices adopted in their activities, which protect the environment and the product processed. In addition to this, most of the vegetable ingredients used by the chefs for the preparation of the dishes of the two restaurants of the structure, come from the company garden, which rich in seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs, allows to bring to the table the authenticity of these extraordinary raw materials every day.
