NEW SUZUKI JIMNY LCV

–COMPACT AND CAPABLE
Suzuki has introduced its two-seater Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) version of its
small and lightweight Jimny off-roader to the Republic of Ireland and it will be available in very limited numbers. The new Suzuki Jimny arrived in Europe in 2018, but it wasn’t offered for sale in the Irish market at the time. Unfortunately, the Jimny fell foul, of European emissions regulations, so sales stopped almost as soon as they started. Now, Suzuki is selling the Jimny LCV due to less stringent emissions legislation that commercial vehicles must meet. FLAT CARGO AREA
The Jimny’s two back seats have been replaced by a flat cargo area that has a capacity of 863-litres and a payload of 150kg. The space on offer won’t be big enough for many, but it is sure to appeal to a certain audience who will appreciate the fact that the Jimny is one of the best compact off-roaders on the market right now.
The only addition inside the Jimny Commercial is a steel mesh partition to prevent items falling forward into the cabin.
ONE SPECIFICATION GRADE
The Jimny LCV is available in one specification grade which includes air conditioning, ALLGRIP PRO selectable 4WD with low transfer gear, DAB radio, electric windows, remote central locking, and cruise control with speed limiter.
Externally, the chunky styling of the Jimny remains as appealing as ever, with black wheel arch extensions and black steel wheels providing a rugged look.
Additionally, a full size spare wheel is located on the rear door, with a black plastic cover for a smooth appearance.
The Jimny Commercial measures in at 3,645mm in length (including the spare wheel), 1.645mm in width and 1,720mm in height, with the wheelbase measuring in at 2,250mm.
UNCOMPROMISING OFFROAD PERFORMANCE
The Jimny Commercial features uncompromising off-roading performance desired by professionals with key essentials - a ladder frame, 3 ample body angles, 3-link rigid axle suspension and ALL GRIP PRO 4WD.
For enhanced peace of mind when driving both on and off-road, the LCV model comes equipped with a high level of safety features including Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) which employs automatic brake to help avoid a collision, and hill hold and descent control that support driving on slopes.
In addition, eCall (an emergency messaging function following a collision) is also available as standard equipment.
TEST VEHICLE
The Suzuki Jimny Commercial I had on test was finished in white paintwork which highlighted the contrasting black cladding on the wheel arches to great effect.
Powering the Jimny LCV is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with relatively short ratios, while a second lever selects between 2WD, 4WD or low range for tougher off-road conditions. The short gearing means it is noisy at higher speeds.
Driving around an urban environment is a relatively fuss-free and serene experience, but a considerable amount of engine noise is present at motorway speeds.
The Jimny adapts to every situation, featuring a part-time 4WD system with low range transfer gear.
Drivers can shift the lever to the 4L mode (4WD - low gear) when the going gets tough for maximum torque and better traction on steep slopes and rough terrain.
The naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the Jimny produces 100bhp and 130Nm of torque, and can achieve a top speed of 145km/h.
Suzuki quote an official WLTP combined driving cycle fuel consumption figure as low as 6.8l/100km and that is not far off the 7.3l/100km I achieved in real world driving.

The new Suzuki Jimny Commercial is priced at €20,995 (including Commercial Vehicle VRT) with optional single-tone metallic paint available at €370 and dual-tone metallic at €750. However, due to an extremely limited number of new Jimny Commercial vehicles coming to Ireland, interested buyers must act without delay.
A three-year/100,000km warranty comes a standard.

★ The Suzulight was Suzuki's first-ever car. In 1937, heavy consumer demand for automobiles inspired Suzuki to design a small car powered by an innovative liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine. Unfortunately, the Japanese government halted the production of cars during World War II, forcing Suzuki to return to loom production. However, after the war, the Japanese cotton market crashed in 1951, allowing Suzuki to dive into motor vehicle design again. After several years of development, Suzuki introduced its first-ever production car — the Suzulight. The Suzulight was based on the Germanmade Lloyd 400 and had a transversely mounted engine and front-wheel-drive. ★ Toyota partly owns Suzuki. Over the years, Suzuki's growth and huge potential have attracted investments from other bigger automakers. It all started in the late '90s when General Motors purchased a 20 percent stake in Suzuki as part of a deal to develop compact vehicles jointly before selling it all back to Suzuki in 2008 after running into financial trouble. A year later, Volkswagen bought a 20 percent stake in Suzuki but was forced to sell them in 2015 after a long court battle. In 2019,
Toyota acquired a 4.9 percent stake in Suzuki, and, as far as we know, nothing has changed.
The latest up-styled version of what many regard as one of the most elegant models ever produced by Mercedes-Benz – the four-door, coupé-like CLS – has arrived in Ireland. Constructed on an E-Class platform – with all that suggests in terms of its roominess and visual presence – CLS is justifiably considered a ‘dream car’ of the Mercedes-Benz range combining executive-class comfort with a distinctly sporty appeal. Refashioned and given an even sharper, more elongated, aerodynamic appearance, exterior changes include a new radiator grille, striking new air intakes and bumpers. silverchrome exterior trim elements, new twin and multi-spoke lightalloys, and the choice of an additional metallic paint colour.
Inside, cabin upgrades include two new walnut and wood trim finishes, additional leather seat coverings and colour combinations, and a redesigned multifunction leather steering wheel.
Two petrol and three diesels are offered. Here, focus will fall on the CLS 220d AMG design line priced from €83,090.
Petrol models are: CLS 450 4MATIC (2999cc/Nm 500) and a high performance Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ version (2999cc/Nm 520) with fast-shifting AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. Diesel models are: CLS 220d (1950cc/Nm 400 torque), CLS 300d 4MATIC (1993cc/Nm 550) and a CLS 400d 4MATIC (2925cc/Nm 700).
A mild hybrid with an integrated starter-generator 48-volt electrical system whose output of 195 kW can be increased with a 15 kW boost is included in the mix.
All versions are equipped with Mercedes-Benz MBUX infotainment system with artificial intelligence and predictive functions. Standard specifications also include an extensive range of occupant safety and driver assistance packages.
Knowing it to be a ‘style icon’ with over four million models sold since its introduction in 2004, Mercedes-Benz passenger sales manager Ciaran Allen describes the CLS as “the embodiment of elegance, luxury and comfort, all wrapped in a timeless, eye-catching design”.
