Introduction We want to help the planet in little ways, because more impactful ways can also impact our lifestyles in a way we can’t cope with. I noticed I had cupboards full of canned goods and long-life items going unused, whilst I bought more and more fresh goods. Not only is this wasting food, but I was wasting money too as cans as always cheap to buy. Canned goods can versatile, used in everything from pasta sauce, stews and even guacamole, each of which you can find recipes for inside. I wanted to help save the environment, however I wasn’t ready to commit to a vegan or vegetarian diet. Instead, I found little ways to cut down my carbon footprint. This initially started with using less plastic wrapped items, but led to the realisation that I was wasting a lot of food. I decided to research the impact of food waste on the environment and the results were staggering. The UK alone throws away 7.1 million tonnes of household food waste, per year. It is even more shocking that 70% of that was still edible. This gave me the idea of using up the food items I already had, as my larder was nearly bursting at its seams with cans and plastic. 1

Why Recycle? Recycling is vitally important today as our climate emergency is at the forefront of our minds. But we are here to simplify that. We are stripping it back, teaching you the basics of why you should recycle and what that really means. We want to educate and inform on how to help, rather than belittling and berating for what you’re not doing. We want to help any way we can. Recycling is one of the quickest and easiest steps you can take to help the planet and your carbon footprint. Recycling your tin cans saves 95% of the energy used to make cans, which translate into running a 100 watt biulb for twenty hours or listening to one full album on your ipod. We’ve broken down what happens to your recycled tin can.
