DK Gold Cup South Central Championships

Yukon BMX may be the second most well-known thing in town. Located just blocks away from the high school that Garth Brooks attended - and sitting right off of Garth Brooks Ave., we’ll give you only one guess at who the Most Popular is. Yet just like their favorite son, Yukon BMX knows how to put on a good show ...which is why USA BMX selected them to hold the Gold Cup Finals SC. (That, and the fact that the state of Oklahoma loves BMX!)

Throdwn’s Juan Narvaez (#3) battled with Clint Daily in 36-40X.

It was great to see a ton of the 80’s Okie riders in attendance, either back racing or watching their kids race like they once did. The points chases for the coveted yellow No.1 plate were tight and intense - especially in 8 Novice, where we had a three-way tie for first. In the end, Henry Jones wound up with the No.1. The tiebreaker rule was used plenty of times, yet there were others who walked away with a solid lead to earn a yellow plate.

Among the many standouts of the weekend were Ssquared’s Grecia Cristodulo (14girls), Cruz’zy Gallegos (8x), both of the Hardie Boys (Thiaan in 10x and Big Ben in 11x), and LDC’s River Reece (in 15x). Lil’ Vivianne Mirriam was one of the few to score herself three Gold Cup No.1 plates, awards and jackets - as did Cruz Gallegos. The jump-infested Yukon track was perfect all weekend, with it’s optional Pro section detour out of turn one.

In the end, there was no thunder rollin’, no lightnin’ strikes - but just a whole lotta friends from low (and high) places lovin’ life and chasin’ after that yellow No.1 plate. That’s what The Dance is all about.

Nobody could come close to catchin’ Ssquared’s Grecia Cristolulo.

Proline’s Ezra Duarte was constantly in the mix of 11x.

Blackcrown’s flyin’ 14x, Ian Davis, loftin’ his jive.

Famous wheelbuilder J-Dub Irvin (#1) leads the pack in 46-50 cruiser.

Things got a lilttle topsy-turvey around main time.

On2Wheels’ Simon Horton (#4)came three pts shy of a yellow plate.

(right) Despite their age and skill-level, these 46-50 year old Intermediates really put on a show. Houston’s David Yelverton (#42) leads the charge ahead of Celestial Cycle’s lance Snyder (#6), while Arkansas’ James Stevenson goes big over the doubles.

(far right) Keaton Falasco (#2) stayed Faithful and leads Hyper’s Thiann Hardie (#10) in a round of 10 expert. The two split the lead all weekend, and by Sunday - Hardie became Gold Cup champ while Falasco wound up Gold Cup No.2.

(right) The Reno family, of Reno Racing fame, has a family tradition of going fast. After dominating 17-20 women, Jacelyn Reno now has one less one on a plate that now matches her jersey. If the Reno name sounds familiar - you might be familiar with her older sister Shealan, who races Elite Women.

(far left) For the past four deacdes, Kansas’ leading BMX bike shop - Bicycle Exchange, has sponsored their State’s finest and fastest riders. ...such as this guy: 17-20X Aiden Arnoldy (#2).

(middle left) Venom’s stylish 9x, Karson Moore, wound up with a No.2 Gold Cup plate after a tie-breaker with Max Hudgins.

(left) Donny Johnson (#11), doin’ it for Ironman’s BMX Army, dashed to a Gold Cup No.1 plate and jackets in 12 Inter - in a very close title chase.

(far middle left) BMX Shark’s Cruzy da’ Racer (Cruz Gallegos) and Hyper’s Josh Hardie has their work cut out for them in 7 & Under Cruiser. They fought it out for second place against LDC’s Ashton Hester .

(middle left) The most imspiring racer of teh weekend was Kansas’ quick Qwintin Fanning - who was making mains in 13novice.

(left) The process of elimination in writing captions: 1) Blank jersey = no sponsor. 2) Flat pedals = Novice or Inter. 3) #4 on the plate = probably an Inter. We’ll guess 8inter Braxton Chandler.

The 31-35 cruiser kooks get their sprint on down Yukon’s fast first straight. JBR’s Ty Johnson (in the Patterson colors) attempts to get a wheel closer to Celestial’s Ronnie Renaud (#1). After doing battle, Renaud earned the GCup No.1 plate.

(top left) Texan terror Chayse Mrazek (in the lead) took straight wins in 13x and is now the proud owner of a No.1 plate with a yellow background and a spiffy new Gold Cup Champion jacket.

(far left) Clayton Wilson was one of many KAOS riders spotted out front. “Twiggy” would go on to score a win in 13inter, but fell 5 points shy of earning a yellow number plate.

(middle) Redman’s John Pavlick subtracted one from his Gold Cup ranking, owning it in 26-30X.

(below) Kason Mathews (#5) and Blane Sanders (GC#3) duked it out in 16inter all weekend. By Sunday, the Kaos rider scored the GC No.1 over Blane by one point..

(far right top) The Proline Team was making their presence known in Oklahoma - lead by Donovan Miller in 46-50X. He’d wind up with a yellow No.1 plate and super cool jacket.

(right) Cruz Gallegos added two more yellow No.1 plates to his growing collection, which goes along nicely with his red

ROC No.1. This Kid is a winning machine!

(far right bottom)

What’d we just tell you about the Proline squad? Carson Nuhn (#16) wrapped up his weekend with a Gold Cup No.1 from 11-12 X-Open, and a No.2 plate in 12x. His facial expression says it all.
