SMALL TOWN LIVING

The Town of Thurmont is a great place to live, to start a business, or to visit for a day, a weekend or longer. Located between the larger cities of Gettysburg, Pa., and Frederick, Md., in the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains, Thurmont is the gateway to a huge number of adventures, such as camping, water sports, cycling and hiking.

The town is home to a number of terrific parks, including Cunningham Falls State Park, where you can view the state’s highest cascading waterfall. East End Park in Thurmont was recently remodeled as an inclusive playground, with ramp-accessible play equipment, ADAcompliant swings, a soft play surface and “cozy cocoon,” where children with autism can decompress before rejoining play.

According to Jim Humerick, chief administrative officer, the town is “on the cusp of exciting times.” He cited smart growth initiatives that will allow for commercial and residential development while maintaining the natural beauty of the region and small-town feel.
